  • THE STAR OF DAVID: Origins of an Ancient Symbol - with Rabbi Michael Skobac - Jews for Judaism
    The six-pointed star is one of the most recognized Jewish symbols around. Its origins are not clear and probably evolved over time. This lecture explores some of the background and sources of the Jewish Star or Star of David in the Bible, later rabbinic literature as well archaeological findings. In addition, possible meaning and symbolism of the Star of David are discussed.
    JEWS FOR JUDAISM is an outreach organization whose primary goal is to win back to Judaism those Jews who have been influenced by the following six threats to Jewish survival that are devastating the global Jewish community.
    1. Hebrew-Christian missionaries convert thousands of Jews worldwide every year
    2. Destructive cults cause many Jews to abandon family, friends and careers
    3. Eastern religions, Buddhism and Hinduism are spiritual choices for many Jews
    4. Apathy and ignorance leave many Jews unaware, unaffiliated and assimilated
    5. Intermarriage is exploding with a 75% rate in some North American cities
    6. Anti-Israel BDS on campus inhibits Jewish students from standing up for Israel and Judaism
    To assist non-Jews who have left other religions, JEWS FOR JUDAISM also provides educational programs to help them embrace the Torah’s Seven Noachide Laws for Gentiles.
    We achieve our goals through our worldwide Internet outreach, Social Media, free educational programs, educational literature and counseling services that connect Jewish people to the spiritual depth, beauty and wisdom of Judaism.
    “I am so grateful to have discovered the wonderful Jews for Judaism TH-cam lectures by Rabbi Skobac. I am a Jew who converted to Christianity in college, but now, thanks to your online outreach, I have returned to Judaism. Thank you.” - Rebecca G.
    In a nutshell, Jews for Judaism saves Jewish lives and keeps Jews Jewish.
    PLEASE SUPPORT JEWS FOR JUDAISM’S LIFE-SAVING WORK!
    Your help is very much needed and greatly appreciated.

    I thought the authentic symbolism of Judaism is the 7-branched menorah of the beit hamikdash.

    It is in human nature to find symbols as a remembering tool. As the sun, moon, rocks, fish, crosses, graven images are easy to accept. As for me, I will accept NO image before GOD.

      Why does the star of David look like the star of the Tabernacle of Moloch and the God Remphan?
      Obviously the star of David goes back to the time when Judeans fled Babylon and took the Star of Moloch as their worship of Baphomet.

      You can have images to reflect that you are a Christian, as in a safe meeting place, which the fish symbolized. It was not a graven image of God Himself!

    I went to a Kaballah type service one shabbat morning (unfortunately) During the service we were told to concentrate on various points of the magen david as a means of "meditation". I don't believe in meditation but this sounded even more strange. I was told the magan david was a some sort of magic symbol but just like any symbol it can be interpreted almost any way. The Swasitka in Indian lore is some kind of good luck symbol.

    Rabbi, I once learned the star of David symble is made up thus:
    The initial of King David at top and also upside down at the bottom. Alpha, Beta Delta.

  • @orangeblueandlavenda
    @orangeblueandlavenda 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Davids shield was a triangle. They added an upside down triangle for some reason. The star symbol itself is a symbol of the red dwarf star which comes around every 2500 years. There are many symbols of this same star. The star of David simply is Israels depiction of a warning and reminder about the passing of this star.

    • @JewsforJudaismCanada
      @JewsforJudaismCanada  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The incessant clicking sound was caused by the lectern having a loose screw. Every time the Rabbi would lean on it, the result was a creaking sound. We're sorry.

    Great video... Although you mentioned that the first time the words Magen David or shield of David were explicitly connected to the s p e c i f i c 6 pointed star was around 1250 CE. There are many examples of the six pointed star earlier than the dates you quoted of it being of Hindu in origin. Coins from the 11th century alone exist today with the 6 pointed star. Also, Hinduism being the oldest of religions accessible to us, it seems to me that you may be trying to coagulate a term from the 6th century and conjoin it with a more modern symbol that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. As far as I can see it, it is still an older symbol than you're implying from an even older religion. I could be wrong, but I've watched this a few times and with what I know of Hinduism, you don't seem to have enough evidence to support your claims connecting the exact symbol to the 6th century BCE.

    This is manufactured, revisionistic storytelling. If God is your shield, why do you need a symbol which you've proven Hashem was not involved in? The works of His hands are indication enough of His presence and power.
    He gave explicit design commandments for the Arc of The Covenant, the tabernacle in the wilderness and the temple of Solomon down to minute details. He even specified how and by whom they could be handled. This contrived symbol coupled with just a shattering of rabbinical word salad, though I'm sure unintentionally, gaslights people looking for real answers into settling for myths. Stars, crosses, moons, etc etc etc. They're all adorned as amulets, unwittingly relied upper to channel divine powers. This is idolatry no matter the perceived social benefits.

    Hiya, I disagree about the eight point star ever being used to identify Hebrews. That was the star of Ishtar. But the six point star is definitely the Star of David righteous, pure, and holy. This I have verification through communication with Heavenly angels. And don't forget the Six Million of us who wore it to identify ourselves as Jews. Thank you kindly, shalom

    Anything NOT explicitly taught in the Bible or in the Christian tradition from the apostles should be viewed in a skeptical perspective.
