In this video I'm looking at the Nikon Z5, again, only this time, it's mine. Yes, I bought one. Why when I have a Nikon Z6ii and Nikon Z9? You'll have to watch and find out.
Equipped with a full-frame sensor, the Nikon Z5 captures stunning images with incredible detail and clarity. Its advanced autofocus system tracks your subject with ease, while its 5-axis in-body image stabilization ensures smooth, steady footage every time.
The Nikon Z5 also offers a wide range of features designed to make your photography experience easier and more intuitive. Its tilting touchscreen display makes it easy to frame your shots from any angle, while its fast burst mode lets you capture multiple images in rapid succession.
And with its lightweight, durable design, the Nikon Z5 is the perfect camera for on-the-go shooting.

I've been shooting photography most of my adult life. It started with an on sale Nikon D3200 that wasn't even interested in using, all the way through being a photography business owner, teacher, and TH-cam Photography Content Creator.
My favorite subjects are Human Portraits and Shallow Depth of Field with my specialty, or claim to fame if you will, being Dramatic Nude and Bodyscape. Over my many years of photography I've mastered many genres but I never stop learning and I don't want you to stop either. That's why I started my TH-cam Channel in the year 2020. After a hiatus from photography, I picked up my camera again just in time for the Covid Pandemic. The world shut down. With more time than ever and no humans to photograph I found myself bored but motivated. ZWade Photo, the TH-cam Channel, was born.
I have always been a Nikon brand photographer, but in my community on TH-cam there is limitless room for Canon, Sony, Fuji, Leica, Hasselblad, Nikon, AND any other brand, photographers. Follow along as this channel one day grows into the biggest, most honest, and most fun photography community on the internet.

The Z5 is perfect for me. I rarely shoot above ISO 800, I almost never shoot action, I just want to have qood quality images. This is the only camera out there, which gives me what I need, without me having to pay for what I don't need. Amazing camera.

I came back to Nikon after going Fuji mirrorless for ten years and being that I still have many F lenses I opt to get the Z5 and the FTZ a year and a half ago. I agree that it is the mirrorless version of the D750 which at the time was more expensive used than a new Z5. I got mine when Nikon had a sale when bought together that came out to about $1k. It is now my second camera to my D850 (also a better deal than a Z7 II). I recently was about to sell my Z5 in favor of the D780 (DSLR version of the Z6) but the more I thought about it the more I realized that it [like you said] the perfect everyday, packable camera, and with an F mount nifty fifty (f1.8) it is relatively inconspicuous and non obtrusive.
Yes it doesn't have the BSI sensor that the Z6/Z6 II or the D780 has but in side to side pixel peeping comparison I did with the Z6, the Z5 was a hair better if not equal in image quality, noise handling and sharpness. The Z5 in my opinion is the manageable and modern D750 in every aspect. the only con is that it only has an optional battery grip rather than a dedicated vertical control grip for those long portrait shoots.
I have yet to invest in any Z glass but maybe soon once I am completely certain that the Z5 will stay with me and find it's ultimate niche in my usage.

Interesting. I was thinking of the Z5 to go with my zFc. ZFc is my daily walk around street photography camera and was looking for a 2nd camera for running sports photography like track or cross country race. Not sure if 4.5 fps will do. Other camera I was looking at is the Sony a7c. Which is nice and small for my small hands, but not small in price even at sale price.

      Hey Jeff, thanks for watching.
The Z5 could use an Autofocus update before auto tracking sports becomes easier. But if you’re good at single point, it could be a ok choice. Z6ii is is 3x faster fps with about the same AF accuracy I’d say.

Great video. I think the new pancake 26mm lens would be a great fit for a walk around lens for the Z5. When I had the Df, it lived in my office, in a bag with a couple of lens, just in case I felt like going out to shoot. The D500 was in the trunk, also in it's bag with a couple of lens but, it was later replaced by the Z6. Today I tend to have the A7R V with me, while I prefer the FX30 as it is lighter, having an EVF, I am tempted to shoot photos more than videos but that thing gets warm quickly, shooting videos out here in South East Asia and it's not the hot season yet. LOL. Once I get fully acquainted with it, the FX30 will become the primary for video and everyday use.

@@markshirley01 I had the Z6 II, for photos, it worked pretty well with the autofocus. My issue was with the autofocus for video, it would lose my eye and some of my videos would be out of focus, requiring a reshoot or 2 or covering up things with b-roll. From a handling perspective, the Nikon cameras to me, are better. If you’ve waited this long and don’t use your gear for work, I would say hang in there for the upcoming cameras.

    • @ZWadePhoto

You may or may not have the success you anticipate with eye tracking on the Z5. Image quality, is amazing. If you're considering something for your business, I would strongly consider saving and checking out the Z6iii when it finally launches. The AF will likely be on the level as the Z8 and Z9 which basically never miss, even in near total darkness.
For business, the AF creates a very high effort to income ratio.

I want NIkon to make a Coolpix Z like the Coolpix A but with the same tech they use in the Z50. I'd totally buy it for a small camera. As a amateur “picture taker”, the greatest challenge was getting the white balance correct. The Z6 and the S Line 24-70 f/4 delivered the great image quality they always do. It was definitely the most rewarding “Costco” hot dog & pizza run I ever made. As for the Z5, so many people seem to have found the tremendous value it represents. @@ZWadePhoto by the way, I need an advise if you don't mind, I do a lot of portrait work, and I heard having a higher MP makes retouching and editing easier... with that in mind, would you get the Z7 II, the Z9 or wait to see what Nikon comes up with soon? I'm craving to get a new camera with more MP but would hate to get one just to have Nikon announce a new one right after lol... which I may not even be able to get since I think it will be on backorder forever.

@@felm.974 who told you that?! Lol higher MP are more difficult to retouch. More obvious details. The Z7ii to my eye is actually sharper and more detailed than the Z9, many will argue its the same. It ain't. But with that being said, I think it makes the Z9 better for portraits. Z9 portraits are gorgeous. Z7ii is too, but veeeeery crisply crunchy sharp. I pull textures on both for portraits, Z7ii just need a bit more texture pull.

Since phone cameras can shoot static subjects just fine also, need to have a compelling reason for consumers to get a mirrorless camera. Not being able to shoot moving subjects is a bad look still for Nikon Z system. Therefore, Nikon needs to still improve AF-C mode or lose market share to competitors, including camera phones.
