  • Vidoy is the northernmost island of the Faroe Islands and is a spectacular landscape photography and hiking location. In this video, I tell about how a miserable evening turned around to success and delivered two of my favourite photos of 2018.

From your videos i’m learning that a big part of being a good landscape photographer is to seek the perfect location, mindfully setting up the shot and then taking the pic...I’m thinking it makes the whole experience more meaningful when you see the end result.

I've been watching your Faroe videos and this is almost the last one I ended up watching... I have to say, it's my favorite video so far. Your story about pushing through the negative thoughts is SO inspiring and I can relate to it completely. My partner and I are heading to the Faroes in August and I feel so inspired and prepared by watching your videos and photography tips. THANK YOU SO MUCH for creating such epic videos and going out of the way to make them so inspiring and also hiking to locations that not many would venture. LOVE THE 2018 Shots from this video! Keep up the amazing work!!!

The fact you listen to metal at all is great. I thought I was the only landscape photographer who did. If you do like the more melodic, heavy musically sounding metal I would recommend a band named Slice the Cake. They have some amazing work that fits the fantasy yet ultra dark and dangerous images you get in the mountains and I could associate with your work too. Great video, as always.

I've been to several of the locations you showed us in Iceland, but your explanation of how to get your shots show me a completely different way of looking at a pretty place. I love the commentary as well, as understanding what led to a picture makes it so much more meaningful. Thank you again.

What a place!! we went there for 3 weeks this year in April/May because of your earlier TH-cam's, so we are indebted to you for the inspiration..... must admit its a place that seems difficult to beat in future adventures...... one other suggestion if you haven't been there is Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean..... I thought the Grand Randonee 1 had scenery that maybe topped the Faroe's

Brilliant video, Mads. I am really enjoying the Faroe Island series both for the photography and the travelogue. I would love to see some more of the townships and buildings which are strange and exotic for those of us who live in the tropics. Your sunset shots are also fascinating. Wonderful to have the luxury of time to plan your shoot. Where I live the golden hour is more like golden 15 minutes.

    Hi Mads!
Most inspiring at all levels. Production wise, your videos are improving in quality and story telling - I can only imagine the complexity in terms of the amount of preparation each video requires from you and Sophie.
I agree with you in regards to the photos you showed.
I have a curiosity, when you compose the frame in the field do you picture in your head a different frame ratio to the final print or is it something that you might decide when in from of the computer?
    Thank you for sharing

    • @MadsPeterIversen
      @MadsPeterIversen  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for the kind words, Vitor! :) In all honesty, the videos themselves don't require much preparation as I film as I go along and build the story up around that. The preparation is for taking photos.
I mainly stick to the 2:3 when framing the photo in field. Sometimes I crop but I try to stick to the standards of 2:3, 3:4, 4:5 and 16:9, occasionally 1:2 :)

Love the video Mads!! Where did you park for this hike and for the others in your Faroe Island series? I've been scouring google maps and it's rare to find an actual area for parking. I don't want to be the rude tourist/photographer and parking on peoples property or anything like that.
    Thanks

Just parked close to the entrance. Be aware of the rules around this place seem to change now. I'm not entirely sure how.

From Google maps, it seems that many if not most of the hill/cliff sides are cordoned off by fences, I suppose to serve as meadows for the sheep? In any case, it's clear that it's private property. When scaling some of the cliffsides, how did you go about this? Simply go through the gate and straight through or did you go around the fenced areas?

Straight through the gates and on to the trail. Only small parts are within walls. There is one long wall up the mountain, but it's old and not in use anymore.

i recently read about something that you mentioned in this video, the possibility of fees for hiking on the Faroes. what is the official word on that? is it just private landowners that will set their own fees?

I heard from a friend who just came back from there that to get to Drangarnir you have to pay....you have 2 choices , 1. take a guided tour which is run every mon, wed, fri and costs i believe 73euro per person or if you want to go by yourself a figure of 200euro was mentioned.

I wish I could tell you more, but for now, it's the wild wild west up here. Private landowners have started to charge. Some see it as a business opportunity and others just charge a little. Some require a guide unless you pay more and sometimes they don't charge at all... there is no official system yet.

@@markobrien9362 200 euro!??!?!?! Two hundred!!! Even 73 euro is outrageous just to do a hike!! Man, maybe I will not be visiting the Faroes again. Such a shame, I was planning on returning with a few friends to hike and photograph.
