I never doubted it was real until I scrolled down. I only thought the images had been cropped to make encounters look closer and more dramatic than they really were. It's very impressive work and I don't mind being fooled on this occasion.
I think that the music added to this perfectly captures the tragic beauty of the film. Those are men up there trying to kill and not be killed at the same time. It expresses both the insanity of war and it's necessity to keep insanity at bay. God help us all...

I knew there was something really odd about this footage. Partial coloring, incredibly bright glare from clouds, canopy coming off the P51 almost perfectly, the weird way the footage transitioned into other footage despite having almost exact same cloud cover, bullet holes on some of the planes were too perfect compared to rest of the shot. Overall it's very well done. Almost believable :D
Thought the same thing kind of: not much chance p-51D ever engaged a flight of escorted he111, it's more a battle of britain sight than a late war one. But great effects!
I saw this video for the first time in 2006. It affected me so much, I believe the music is the same, that I simply could not watch it again. It's 2020, and I'm glad you posted it. Thank you. We should always remember.
I love these videos! I make little cinematic shorts with DCS World but I really appreciate the idea behind these vids. It's the same joy I get appreciating detail in well made miniature models. Creating these guncam videos is a great way for getting the realism out of your sim. The filters used and applied are great, really makes me want to have a go at making some of my own. Big thumbs up! 👍
Very convincing only started having doubts when so many variations of targets kept cropping up 109/190/262 into the scene and the pilot seemed to have an endless supply of ammunition
The first time I see a gun camera video with an appropriate and tasteful music background. It is a hunting piece that underlines the tragedy to either side on these encounters.

john kendall: That was a good response and description of air compressibility problems. Readers might know that this was mostly caused by transonic air flow on the tail control surfaces. It's interesting that the DC-9s, MD-88s and B-717s we flew basically had only mechanical control tabs on the elevators. Simple mechanical cables are connected to the yoke and rudder pedals in the cockpits. There is no hydraulic 'boost' required for basic control, and on the rudder, its control tab easily takes over rudder movement if the right hydraulic pressure is lost.
Nice. I've never seen footage of a P51 shooting down an ME-262 even though I know the P51 was the only allied fighter that could keep up with them. Very rare footage. Thanks for sharing.
another awsome video renzic. really loving these. how were the basic clips recorded? you running a bunch of quick missions or a campaign? two things. firstly the me262 footage was awsome so nice to see it addded. secondly have you thought about doing one of these but with a ground attack?
These are indeed quick missions set-up for specific shots. Like the He111 squad, a lone escort like the Me-262, Allied plane being shotdown. I will be making polls in a few videos where you will be able to vote what kind of guncam scenario you'd like to see. Last poll showed that a lot of people wanted to see the P-51 vs air targets. But ground attacks can definitely be part of these videos!

That was a fantastic effect. I had no idea it wasn’t real footage until I saw the German fighter without his tail, and then started to wonder. That was a bit of an “IL-2-ism”. But well done.
Great edit. I didn't know it was a game till the 262. The chances of real P51 on 262 gun camera footage is the only reason I looked to see if it was a game. Almost the whole video looks like the real gun camera footage from the war.

I thought this was real till i read the description. Good job, the film grain was good, the only thing to make it better and i doubt its something you can control but the tracers were too high quality, in all guncam footage ive seen the tracets were really wobbly, othetwise its damn near perfect.
On the other hand I like how German fighters bring down B17 and the others and starting with the back gunner. It is relly good to see the machine guns of the rear gunner and the turret gunner going down.
No one knows the true intensity of real combat unless you've been there. I know.. It's the most intense, unbelievable time ever. Nothing in normal life comes close. What these Men did in Airail Combat is beyond comprehension to most. No adrenaline can match what they were feeling. True Combat is beyond the human experience. I know

Didn't realize this was IL2, I thought it was real and I was sitting here like "Jesus, all the pilots and bomb crews in these video's are dying and the dread it must be to be tumbling out of the air helplessly."
Very well done even if p-51D going after several escorted he111 does not seem very likely (I mean that P-51D are late war and flight of he111 are from beginning of war when germans were still on the offensive). But very well made! Bravo!
FYI the allies had stopped using standard tracer rounds by the time the P-51D entered service and had replace then with rounds that flashed on impact. Standard Tracer rounds were causing pilots to miss the target to often.
Perhaps it has been noted in this video, but in one segment a German ME-262 being shot down with the pilot bailing. That has got to be one classical piece of film! A few years ago i witnessed the (supposedly) the only one remaining flying at the Houston air show.
Pretty cool. I was fooled until the P 51s did their initial attack and the first two ended up smoking. That was classic IL2. If you cut that part out I probably would have been fooled longer. Also, straight into the six like that is not how they trained fighter pilots to attack bombers. There are some cool tactical videos from WW2 pilot training classes on youtube that might help with realism. They were trained to fly parallel and in front, then turn in and use the nose of the bomber as a swivel point as they swung around back shooting, then dove down and away. Not saying they did that every time, but it is how they avoided getting shot down.

It reminds me of the movie red tails when they started I think attacking bombers then the 262 shows up very good footage 👍

This Presentation was very well done. Looks real. Music & Film projector sound effect adds to the realism.
