@LeadFaun I think the vast amounts of weapons, gear, and builds are enough to show its is really well built for role playing. Bosses are important but I wouldn't have played any of the souls games for that alone.

I actually really like some of the artwork for the unused spells. You can tell just how much they cared about the three schools of spells when they put so much work into crafting so many, and that so many didn't make it in (despite us having a crap ton in DS2) Too bad spell casting sucked so hard in DKS3 though. Would've been great to see them try and revive some of these spells (although it looked like they tried. . . and failed with soul soul stream?)

I don't think you may understand the concepts behind that crab. The lore talks about fire sorceries in the first Dark Souls, and Carhillion of the Fold in DSII talks about this as well. These spells may resonate as an attempt made by pyromancers to mimic the sorceries of old, which had spouted from flame. Now, for the more educated individual, Demon's Souls shows off the magic that's talked about as long forgotten. And although the fire is the natural color for the sorceries, I wouldn't be surprised if these spells listed for fire were connected to those from the age of Demon's from Demon's Souls.

Hmm...10:20 Even though it probably wasn't intended, a spell that shoots backwards could be a cool for mind games by alternating with homing soulmass type spells. It would have to be a homing spell too though.
I'd like a dark souls-like game that incorporated more powerful magic akin to diablo games. I just want a necromancer build in a dark souls game. Make more enemies that all can kill you but you have more aoe and cc kind of abilities to deal with bigger mobs.

@@dragon8me2 I think more pertinent is how awful so many of those spells are. Not all of them but I mean, shit like divine pillars, WoW Corona and Floating Chaos are joke spells bordering on trolling. Corona especially, it's the Handmaid's Ladle of spells. A broken, uninfused, unupgraded ladle.
@@jahrfuhlnehm Floating Chaos is one of the best Pyromancies for PvP (esp. duels). It helps a lot in zoning enemies and (contrary other projectile spells) actually can hit enemy players.
It's a rendering artifact from the emulator. The network test wasn't fully tested to work fully with the emulator, so there is bound to be glitches here and there with it.
It can be done using a Jailbroken PS3, but the emulator has much higher resolution and easier to hack and create scripts for it. I currently don't own a JB'd PS3, that's why I settled with the emulator, which does the job more than perfectly (Except for that annoying square haha)
A lot of these spells are precursors to the ones that are in game, summon ghost is scraps of life, great grudge is climax and there was also dark fog and many more.
From what i seen i think they planned subschools for each type of magic. Pyro for example - wyrms/usual and dark pyromancy. Or miracles - prayers, lightning and something else.
Dark Souls 2, before it was released, had this air of mystery to it. When i look at the trailers and the network test, I still get this feeling today. It's so regrettable what happened to this game. I get the feeling that, had FROM invested more time and effort into it and let the original plans flourish and get mixed with the final vision for it, the game would've been something truly special. The lore seems so jumbled and weird, but there are some very cool vestiges of a once fantastic story in it. As it is now, it is... weird. And kinda boring.

If soul absorption was a spell which stole souls from the target on-impact, then it would have paired well with the Climax line of spells. Being able to replenish souls mid-combat would be a viable strategy.
Most of all I just wish magic worked like it did in the Network test Sorcery is cast with a Catalyst & scales with Intellect Miracles are cast with a Talisman & scales with Faith Pyromancy is cast with a Catalyst & scales with both Intellect & Faith, but primarily Intellect Hexes are cast with a Talisman & scale with both Intellect & Faith, but primarily Faith - Instead we got the boring Pyromancy Flame back & Hexes are just randomly assigned to Catalyst or Talisman, with weird stat requirements. At least the way they scale is interesting. Pyromancy scales with the higher of your int or faith, so if you have 50 int & 30 faith, it'll only take that Int in to count, while Hexes scale with the lower of your stats, so with 40 Int & 20 Faith, it's gonna scale off only your bad Faith

It's clear that hexes were never meant to be balanced whatsoever and the current ones are a result of them displaying a shred of mercy for the players.
why did you have to ruin ds2 from, why... if they already had these icons, why couldn't they keep them and not replace them with those boring ones which ended up in the final release? Even that part got messed up..
ever since I first started playing dark souls I've barely used magic, dabbled in pyyromqcy an lower lightning spears aside from a few hexes all low levels as an after sight to physical builds. had they kept some of these in I might have played differently, though ds2 magic was ridiculously op.
Very interesting but the video is really weird. It's in a dark area of the game and there is a black box on the screen alot. Perhaps there was nothing you could do about it, but there is some further wasted potential in you're video. For instance it seemed like many of the spells affected your stats but you would use the spell and not show stats or even move. Some commentary throughout the video probably would have solved the issue. Very interesting, but it just seems like wasted potential from a game design stand point, and in reference to your video.

A shame they didn't finish these, but then DS3's casting would've been even more mediocre in comparison.

DS2 is my 2nd favourite and 2nd most played Souls game with 1k hours (DS1 is #1 to me)

A lot of them showed damage, so I'd guess most them are working. Most looked like self buffs and anti spells for the ones we couldn't see damage.
