      You don’t know the half. Take my advice, save yourself the aggravation and detangle your long hair no less often than once a week. Letting it sit in braids or twists for too long causes *major* matting at the roots and it is NOT fun. 💯

    Your hair is absolutely beautiful. When I was a loose natural i did this same pre-wash detangling method and I was able to retain so much length🙂.. I still use this method on my girls hair they are teenagers but both have healthy mid back length hair. Taking time to properly detangle is one of the main keys to length retention 🙂

    Try re wetting sections when gliding the comb through and it’s getting stuck. It will help to smooth the shafts down. Your hair tends to frizz quickly, and needs a bit of water to smooth it. Maybe a cup of water close by to dip your comb in as you go

    Thank you for showing your process and explaining what you do. I needed this video as I’ve experienced breakage due to not handling my natural hair properly. I have to change how I care for my hair because I don’t see much length retention, and I know my hair grows so it’s so frustrating for me.
    I’m slowly unlearning my bad habits because I believe I was causing damage to my hair, and I want to do better moving forward. Your channel is helping to educate me on how to care for my natural hair properly, and I appreciate it a lot. Hope you are doing well and God bless.

    Hey Obaa!
    Just watched your video, you have good hair, and I think just looking at your hair texture you should treat your hair every 2 months (Steam Treatment) trim the ends each time you treat it, and then, thread your hair so that its volume and length can be maintained.

    Your braids stayed so neat and frizz-free for six weeks. My braids get frizzy, tangled, and difficult to take down after about one and a half weeks. That's one of the reasons I don't do braids. Oh yes, detangling, as well as improper moisturizing, are the things that become big setbacks to length retention. Since I do my hair twice a week detangling in the shower is a quick and easy process even with long hair.

    Question. I know I wash my 3c hair way to much I watch it a couple times a week and it's dry because of it but I'm always scared to go a week or 2 or longer because someone may smell my hair if they get close enough or my partner might smell it or if someone hugs me even if I use scented leave in products it still cannot cover up sweat smell or dirty hair smell. The weather here has been in the mid 70s. How do you go 6 weeks and keep it from smelling? I would like to stretch my wash days

    • @ctay4sho09
      @ctay4sho09 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Have u tried co-washing? Some naturals have used a co-washing product to gently clean their hair. Look up co-washing cleaners online. Or a more moisturizing shampoo may help

    • @Kygirly27
      @Kygirly27 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @ctay4sho09 I've only cowashed a couple of times but never added it to my routine. If i were to cowash with the As I Am coconut co wash conditioner frequently i am not sure if co washes strip the hair at all. I need to stretch my wash days. Washing it every 2 -3 days lately which is more than I normally do because of the warmer weather. I'm jw what other women do. Do women take a shower without washing their hair? I have a shower cap maybe I should start doing this?. How often do you co wash in a weeks time. How often do you moisturize your hair? And I'm not sure how often you shower but when you shower do you get your hair wet or do you take several showers without washing your hair by keeping a shower cap on. Sorry for all the questions I just want to start trying this but need to figure out a routine. Thank you!!

    • @ctay4sho09
      @ctay4sho09 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Kylie I have never co washed my hair b4. I've been natural since 2011 & I've always washed my hair once a month. Sometimes longer 🫣. I just took my mini braids out this week & I only washed them twice. I had them in for 7 weeks; im trying to stretch my protective styles past the usual 4 weeks. My scalp did not smell. I use smell good growth oils & fruity smelling products as well. I spray fenugreek water & aloe vera on my scalp to refresh. I workout several times a week too. When I get home I will come back to tell u all of what I use

    • @ObaaYaaJones
      @ObaaYaaJones  ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I have made my hair/scalp used to washing every 4-6 weeks.
      My sclap doesn't itch or smell, and I don't really oil my scalp. I moisturize once a week or so.
      I don't use a shower cap, I just tie my hair up, and that's it.
      Definitely try just washing once a week and see how that works for you. But you need to give yourself time to adjust to the change.
