Even without the analog horror effects and distortion, the idea of a mountainous creature like Godzilla looking at you. Not just the area that you're in, because that's simple, he's massive of course he can look at a massive area and you in the center of it. It's the idea of him looking at YOU. The concept that a creature that massive has perceived you. That's horror.

I argue the "analog horror face" plastered on Godzilla like in 20:00 would only diminish the horror, like I am sorry, this is more like him trying to booty call you past 2 AM
Even Shin design has more restrain to not made the googly eyes looks this goofy, and it's still arguably the creepiest Godzilla design to date.
As you say, Godzilla as a concept is already horrific enough, especially when it's laser focused for you specifically.

Fun fact, the IRL story behind the suit is also kinda creepy. Apparantly it was extremely hot (In excess of over 40c/100f degrees) and also weighted over 100kg, the actor was in fact incased in a very immobile rubber coffin and could only get out of it with stage hands help. pretty hellish in all reality.

Another time they stopped shooting To go for coffee after a scene...and literally just left him there laying on his back for like three hours. Once they realized what happened they all rushed back in a panic. Thankfully the actor inside was okay but he was very dehydrated and very angry. And ever since then, it has always been required that the suit must be removed when it comes to any full suit concept fight Once the scene ends. So thankfully this has never happened again at least as far as we know.

the funniest thing is that the original godzilla suit, named by the crew "shodaigoji" weighed in at over 200 pounds and was made out of raw latex, which means in this universe, the suit actor haruo nakajima is a supreme gigachad for lugging that heavy mess around all the way home. in real life he is also a gigachad for getting set on fire several during filming, being nearly blown up several times by special effects director eiji tsuburaya, having fireworks shot at him, all while wearing this heavy ass costume. if any man deserves an absolute mad lads video made on him, its the invincible haruo nakajima

It even ties back into a lot of stuff about Godzilla. Like how Godzilla was originally made as a response to the atomic bombings, which would probably explain why the man in the suit was so drawn to the character (Ironic though, since Godzilla was made as a representation of the bombs). The actor’s dismay at being treated as a show monkey and only being used for entertaining people, a possible nod to the fact that Godzilla lost it’s original messaging over the years to become fun kaiju flicks. Or even the idea behind the suit itself, with the original Godzilla suit being infamous for be grueling and incredibly difficult. I really wonder how the series will future stuff from the series, like replacing the suit, moving to cgi, or even the massive crossover films between monsters.

I’m really glad creators are using Godzilla Raids Again as their primary source for these. It’s always been a really unsettling film. Always was the scariest one to watch as a little kid.

For The Man in the Suit , it was so easy to just make it in universe as the series can allow for people to go as abstract as they want. If I'm remembering, one of the movies had conquering cockroaches from another planet/dimension. However, The Man in the Suit doesn't do that, it takes it to when movies were made and it does something that's both disturbing, frightening and tragic. It does a good job making me feel awful for everyone (except the movie production/company), but it lets us know "yeah you can feel bad for The Man in the Suit and his victims, but he's still dangerous."
Also I just watched the latest entry: Mosura Incident (1964). All I can say is that things get from bad to worse and even more grosser.

Interestingly enough, it is documented that with prologed exposure, a person can indeed become fused to fabrics. Usually this happens to a mentally ill individual when not properly checked on or cared for, fusing to the couch they lay on.

Shin godzilla honestly was pretty horrifying and you have this constant dread and Lovecraftian horror and feeling of hopelessness and even focuses on humans for majority of the move.
This analog horror honestly was not bad, i have a huge hatred for the cliche camera effects and glitches and it is no different here but i love the concept of the story. I like how they kind of work in the subtle differences between the suits over the years into his mutating transformation.
Also the focus on humans was only in 2014. They was barely any humans in godzilla king of the monsters, most of the movie is just godzilla fighting king ghidorah.

Legitimately terrified of that concept ever since and this really brought that back LOL. I usually throw stuff like this on in the background while I draw, but when you showed the 'visual diagram' I actually kinda recoiled in my seat. Very impressive stuff as someone whos not that into analog horror tbh

1:05 I was in a kaiju club in college and a lot of the older Japanese kaiju movies actually did have a very human element. I hadn't seen any kaiju movies before and that surprised me a lot. I assumed there would be a lot more monster action, but the characters and their connections actually take the center stage.

Dude the man in the suit is downright fantastic situational writing. I mean taking pretty much the story of the films and expanding them into BTS is incredible since it feels very on the nose. Gojira premiered 9 years after Hiroshima occurred so to have the actors have the sense of nationalism feels very true along with their hate towards Americans. Pretty much acknowledging godzilla from this monster of destruction into the defender of japan like he's widely known.

Absolutely smashing video on Godzilla, innit? The Godzilla franchise, dating back to the '54 classic, has been a rollercoaster of monstrous mayhem. 32 films later, here we are, grappling with the iconicity of it all. My first Godzilla encounter? '98 version - flawed, but oh, the nostalgia! Modern Godzilla flicks, though, bit of a letdown. Too much focus on mundane humans, scant monster action. Godzilla versus Kong was a bit of a relief, at least they let the titans have at it. But, we're not here for the live-action Godzilla saga; it's the analog horror scene! Analog horror takes a wild turn with Godzilla Suit Incident. Unveiling the behind-the-scenes chaos of the Godzilla suitman, who morphs into the costume itself! Creepy, right? The actor, madly in love with the suit, ends up fused. The horror unfolds as he melds with the suit, becoming an abomination. Analog horror blending seamlessly with body horror, yikes! The story dives into the actor's obsession - wearing the suit everywhere, even against explicit instructions. Final scenes get eerie as the actor becomes one with the suit, skin entwined with costume. Now, we're left wondering, was it the suit or the actor's Godzilla mania that triggered this bizarre fusion? On to Angiras Suit Incident in '55, the sequel's aftermath. The suitman returns, skin and flesh inflating inside the suit. Eyes turn bloodshot, actor becomes an Angiras hybrid, a monstrosity! The film crew faces chaos when suitman goes rogue, biting the Angiras actor's head. Turns out, actor and suit become one, a gruesome fate. Godzilla Encounter in '62 delves into suitman's animosity towards Americans, rooted in personal tragedy. Godzilla suitman, scarred by atomic bombings, harbors vengeance. Chaos on set ensues as suitman goes berserk during the Kong fight, taking out the actor. The cameraman captures suitman's eerie rise from the water, foreshadowing further horrors. Depiction of Growth in '62 explores suitman's unsettling metamorphosis. From the suit actor's perspective, we witness the disturbing integration of man and costume. The anguishing process unfolds, leaving us questioning the nature of the suit's influence. The series unfolds with an ominous tone, drawing us into the horrors of Godzilla's suit. The story continues with Suit Trial in '58, revealing suitman's confinement. Attempts to train him echo unethical exploitation. Godzilla suitman becomes a pawn, a test subject. The audio tests, eerie recordings, and the unsettling final frame hint at the impending horrors. Mailed Message in '62 takes a dark turn as suitman sends a tape. Personal tragedy surfaces - the actor's family perished in Hiroshima. Suitman seeks revenge, revealing a motive beyond the screen. The haunting image of Godzilla suitman's silhouette lingers, leaving us uneasy. Dorsal Extraction in '62 shocks with attempts to cut suitman from the costume. Unbelievably, the results are deemed "fantastic." The tension rises as suitman, agitated by a camera flash, attacks. The series exposes the dark underbelly of movie production, exploring the consequences of exploiting the suitman. Angira Suit in '56 uncovers the studio's struggles with the Angiras suit. Frustration builds as attempts to cooperate fail. The actor resists, leading to a disturbing altercation during filming. The series unfolds with a sense of impending doom, as the studio faces challenges with its monstrous creations. Rare Newspaper in '64 concludes the series, thrusting our protagonist into chaos. Godzilla suitman escapes, growing in scale. Witnesses share chilling accounts, leaving us to grapple with the horror of a real-life Godzilla on the loose. The series maintains its grip on terror, delivering a chilling finale. Now, Suitmation Trials, a fresh exploration of Godzilla horror. The first instance delves into a glitched Godzilla Raids Again. The unsettling image of Godzilla staring directly into our souls, questioning if we are alone, sends shivers. The series sets a tone of impending horror, drawing us into a nightmarish digital realm. Instance Two continues the unsettling narrative, revealing cryptic messages during a glitched scene. The eerie revelation of an actor's fate during the film adds a layer of horror. Godzilla's threat transcends the screen, echoing the analog horror tradition of blurring reality and fiction. Instance Three takes a cryptic turn, intertwining Godzilla's memories with haunting imagery. The enigmatic skull and references to the cold raise questions about the suitman's nature. The series maintains its atmospheric tension, inviting speculation about the true identity of Godzilla's tormentor. Immersion, translated from binary code, introduces a found footage element. A mysterious journey through a forest unfolds, teasing connections to earlier warnings about being in the woods. The series dives into the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction, keeping viewers on edge. Final Entry presents a departure from the previous instances, introducing a snowy landscape and a knife lodged in the ground. Footsteps in the snow create an ominous atmosphere, leaving us with a sense of foreboding. The series concludes with an enigmatic finale, leaving room for interpretation. In conclusion, both Godzilla analog horror series offer a unique blend of suspense, body horror, and unsettling narratives. The exploration of suitmen merging with costumes, personal tragedies, and the consequences of exploitation creates a chilling atmosphere. The Suitmation Trials series introduces a digital dimension to the horror, further expanding the narrative possibilities. Together, these series showcase the versatility of analog horror in delivering spine-chilling experiences. Cheers to the creators for weaving tales that linger in the shadows of our imagination! 💌

To add to the deluge of factoids about the 1954 Godzilla movie that have been put up here, one of the creepiest things I know about that early suit is that it could stand on its own with nobody inside it. I believe it was constructed from a layered mixture of latex, rubber, chicken wire and bamboo sticks, which gave it an extreme amount of rigidity (and also made it hell for the actor within, Haruo Nakajima). I'm not sure where people are getting this story that the suit was made with concrete - there's no evidence to back that up.

Tbh, I think this story went overboard explaining why/how suit man became fused. I would have found it WAY creepier if they left it at, it happened, it changed his demeanor, ability to communicate, etc. and that’s it. Showing how suit man continued to help with other Godzilla films is a bit much: unless you’re going to wrap in Toho studios to be complicit in some way (like they wanted this to happen), it was too unrealistic to have them continue employing this guy to be Godzilla during shots.

The 1954 suit incident (and thus, the series as a whole) would be more scary to me if it did not COMPLETELY contradict the reality behind the original suit.
The original Godzilla suit was much too heavy for actors to perform comfortably in, so the suit used in the movie is a second model, but that still weighed 100 kilograms, or around 220 pounds. It could also get up to over 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit) in the suit as well. Plus, with all the stage lights shining down from above, that only further added to the actors' misery, to the point they would pass out on set.
Nobody in their right minds would wear that suit for extended period of time, much less stagger home in it. The original actor to play this dude fell and injured his jaw very early into filming, which is why Haruo Nakajima ended up playing him, and would go onto portray him all the way up to Godzilla vs. Gigan.
If you want to see my sources, check out Wikizilla's video on Godzilla 1954. It's a very enjoyable watch.
