been poppin in and out on your channel for a while, it is insane how genuine these videos are vs literally all of youtube, great fuckin work at being a human being
first thing i did when i got my sp 2 months ago was purchase your starter pack. Got used to drum tapping, playing samples/adding effects then i could go on to loading on my own drum sounds and sampling my own things, it was such a big help cheers!
I had an SP202/DR202 combo “back in the day”, had some fun but never really achieved much. Saw some Spvidz content and got the nostalgic feels, next minute I’ve got a 404A and his 3 drum packs. With the tutorial content on this channel I’m already more productive than I ever was with the 202. (His SoundCloud bumps are legit too). Def recommended, and …P E A C E!
I laughed when I read this title. I just received my OG SP 404 from overseas about 10 minutes ago, haha....... saved this to watch later. First step to get the right power supply and some batteries. Thanks for the great vids!
bro, loving the new camera setup (I'm delving through old vids first as just got mpc and 404!) thanks for all the help you give. what's the filter you are using on the cam? it looks 🔥 also I'm a northern lad too! (in Salford at the mo!) Big love bro.
Think I just got lucky with the lighting on this one man! Maybe did a bit of correction in premier pro but this doesn't look like it has any of the filters on that I usually use. Thats awesome, i'm not far down the road! Glad to hear the videos helped you out
I need to get back on this, havent used it in a few months because I got frustrated with it, I haven't even made 1 beat that i like. I end up messing about with something I've sampled then dont know how to add drums to it without it sounding shit,
I think that is a common theme for people that are new to this device. The SP does require a bit of perseverance but you can and will get there if you do the things I have mentioned here IMO. I hope you can find some more joy using it if you get the chance to pick it back up!
@@DanJanTube I never seem to be able to get the perfect loop too, the more I resample the worse it gets. I tried with the pattern sequencer briefly but was even worse using that
@@KamBoomBap try sampling something like a pocket operator that plays a repeating rhythm. It's hard to get perfect loops on this thing but you can get close!
Agree, its a shame and I hope Roland do something about it if they release a new product in the SP range. It makes sample based beats really difficult especially when layering samples from different records!
Ok SPVIDZ honest question...in a 5 year span, I've seen the 404 the SX and the A released. I bought the MK2 variant back in October 2023, purchased your screen saver pack, and all. What is the biggest difference between the SX and the A? I've watched several videos and it gives me little nuggets here and there but if/when you revisit older SP models on your channel (I actually have a 808ex but no floppy disks yet..kinda sketch how it sounds to be honest so I haven't used it) can you point out the actual difference in them please and thanks mate. I'm trying to find another brand of sampler/groove box to fall in love with because AKAI has too much of my money as is and I have 8 different mpc's from the mpc60 all the way up to the MPC X LE and honestly the oldest one I own produces the best beats and samples....your thoughts? Cheers mate!
All they did was changed the colours a bit, slapped some new samples in and did a few tweaks to the midi so it synced up a little easier with some of their other products but basically it’s exactly the same unit just with a different faceplate
Unfortunately not no. You can do that on the 303 I believe. Need to look into it but yeah on the sx/a when recording is happening you can’t do anything else
@@spvidz when the pattern plays the first time there is no first kick but when it plays a second time or more the first kick plays.. I will try again with quantize.. thank you !
It’s probably because the kick is recorded at the end of the loop instead of the start so it doesn’t play first time. Quantise with the lowest possible setting to make sure it hits first beat
nice video, I still can't squeeze out all the sp, but it's fun, do you think one day you'll be able to put sub in Spanish? There are always some things that happen to me in English, greetings, thanks for the info always
Mate I beg you do a amen break chopping vid. I just can’t chop and play them like I can on a daw or machine. Might be fkin with the bpm all wrong but it sounds gak every time
The best advice i can give someone is to stop watching youtube videos, turn the machine on and play. too many of yall head to youtube to get told what to do these days rather than using your own brain. No offense to spvidz
Yeah you’re not wrong although I do think videos can help speed up the learning process and show you things you may never have figured out on your own particularly if you are new to sampling but yeah like I mention near the start - spending time with the machine is key 👍
@@turntabletreehouse780 dude idk I could never shroom and have electronics work properly for me. I’d probably run out of batteries, have to go to get more and then I wind up leaving the 404 in the forest.
man. I cam here trying to figure out how to use the machine. All this video tells me is 'so yeah what you should do is figure out how to use the machine.' Maybe I just suck at finding what i'm looking for, but there seems to be almost no proper beginner tutorials for the 404.
Well how many of my videos have you watched? How much have you used the device? Have you tried searching for the issues you are having? I have nearly 100 videos about this device. There are so many tips for using this device in my archive and they are some of the most detailed on TH-cam. Everything ive said in this video will help. Make beats, find out what the buttons do (there is a full manual available online), experiment and put the time in and you will pick things up. Just watching a couple of vids and expecting to master it aint going to work unfortunately.
Such an immediate tool. Never found sampling/looping easier and it sounds so good ❤️
Agreed. Its super fast for getting ideas together

Where do I find the starter pack?
I love my 404a, I can sink hours in before I even realize it.
I've had many days lost in those banks myself yeah, Its a captivating device. So quick for knocking beats together!

Haha no way man. Welcome to the gang. Hope you are up and running soon! 🙌
Mk 2 made me get the 404 sx for a portable sampler to just carry around everywhere so I can make beats whenever I’m not with my mpc one.
A lot of this is still applicable to the MkII, sage advice indeed!
Just ordered one of these! Super excited to try it out, yiure a gem for making so much content about it
Got to get samples on that thing! Picked up your sample pack so I don't have to fuss around with drums. No complaints!
Thanks a lot for the support!

just what i needed man!! thanks!
Glad to help you out man!

sample individual drum sounds, then fingerdrum over the main sample and record it all using RESAMPLE.

It always asking for de-activating the copy protection for projects, banks. Do i have to turn the unit on always holding remain and shift? Thank you.
I wanna start making beats . What is the difference between this and the 404A
Literally nothing, thats why I've included both names in the title
The only problems i have with the SP are no timestretch and no pitchshift. Not even a good pitch.

i struggle with the fact that all my samples are 24bit but the sp only accepts 16 bit.
is there a tool to bulk convert?
i would suggest just that you record your samples thru the line in
yes either record straight into the unit or maybe look at something like this? I found this link online so it may be old now - sbooth.org/Max/
