With total respect, I wish, and I know a lot of other shooters too, wish Hornady would give specs on your bullets like Berger does. For example, the bullets ogive length, bullet length etc. excited to buy the bulk packs, thanks!!!
I don't think they ever will. They are too petty to admit that they were wrong in the .277 caliber. Even with all their hate on the 6.8, it's still growing and it's driving them nuts. I have met a few people on the inside of the Hornady machine and their faces turn red when you mention 6.8.
Enjoy all the new products, especially seeing the 22 caliber getting more attention. The same lot sequential packs is a huge step up. Remarkable. It’s like your manufacturing team watches your podcast discussions on accuracy. 😀 Bravo!
Looks like a fabulous cartridge, but it's a direct competitor to their PRC line. Hornady is probably hoping the 6.8 Western will die quickly. I don't expect them to support it a whole lot.
I don’t expect them to ever build 6.8 western. I would guess they will come out with a .277 cartridge of their own (which they will likely never do) before making ammo for the 6.8 western.
*6.8 Western* is _thee_ superior cartridge in .277" caliber, IMHO. We all know that Hornady is *_INCREDIBLY_* sour that they missed their opportunity to call it the _27 PRC._ I surmise they would have likely avoided the _6.8 PRC_ designation simply because it would have made things far too confusing from a marketing standpoint. Let us not forget, Hornady also plans on debuting a 6mm PRC in the near future. Unless, of course, Federal beats them to the finish line [hint, hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge..]. The thought of a *6.8 Western* load with Federal's _Terminal Ascent_ projectile sounds like a perfect match but I digress. Think of it this way - if there is a WSM and/or Creedmoor version then there will undoubtedly be a PRC that follows. That would leave us (in theory) with a 6, 6.5 and 6.8 PRC if Hornady had their way. I think that would certainly cause far too much confusion. Remember folks, the 2A community is constantly growing. Therefore, a lot of newcomers may not be savvy to the 'name game' when it comes to the various calibers and cartridges. It just sounds like alphanumeric nonsense to a beginner. Nevertheless, I kind of wish Hornady would stay away from the *6.8 Western* all together. FWIW, I am sick of hearing/seeing/talking about the PRC line. Cartridge length alone negates any comparison between the PRC lineup and their respective predecessors. IMHO, Hornady has turned into a 'Me too' company. They say, "Look at me! We improved upon improvement. Therefore we are best!". One thing is for certain. Hornady's Marketing Department must have a _tremendous_ budget! Stay classy my friends.
How about you bullet manufacturers finally giving some love to the quarter bore guys out there? Also, please bring the interbond back for goodness sake.
Agreed. Nosler and federal are kicking there ass on bonded projectiles. People are finally realizing tough bonded projectiles kill animals more consistently.
We did testing with cut-down 120gr GMXs to 94gr in 6.5 Grendel running 2750-2950fps depending on barrel length. It's a great hunting bullet that mushrooms rather than petaling, 99% weight retention, double caliber expansion. Penetrates like a cup/core 1.4 - 1.5x its weight.
A simple, humble request. Can we get a couple 100gr match oriented options? BTHP, or ELDM, the new Aeromatch, or maybe even a 100gr ATIP?!? My 6 ARC gassers and my 6GT bolt guns would GREATLY appreciate it
Is it possible for you from Hornady to publish the velocity and energy of this new 44 Rem Magnum 240 gr DGH™ Backcountry Defense™ when fired from a 24'' lever action rifle?
@@mikegoodwin2386 These are hunting bullets. We need high BC 180gn long range target bullets that are comparable to Berger Hybrid or VLD. And no, the ELD-Match is not an equivalent.
The Hornady website is not easy to navigate. I want to read the description for each hunting bullet and performance characteristics. I don’t want to have to select caliber or weight and scroll through dozens of rounds. The website is dated and clunky. It is really important to have an easy and intuitive website.
The more I listen to Hornady's diatribe in leading the shooting communities nowhere, the more I see the virtues of Weatherby. Hornady is chasing its tail and in dinial about the 270/6.8 calibers that continue to slowly grow and grow.. They better hurry in producing that 27 PRC based off the 300 PRC before Weatherby does the 27 RPM or simply changes the twist rate in the 270 Weatherby, as mine with a 1-8 is lights out 500 yards past the 300 yards I kill with.
The problem for heavy/long .277 is and always will be 7mm/.284", which is only 7 thousandths difference. You can evacuate the bore more quickly with 7mm, and shoot a wide range of great sectional density bullets that make .277 kinda pointless, and I say that having been raised on the .270 Winchester. It doesn't invalidate .277, but makes it mostly redundant.
You are going to shoot the 500 anyway, usually because packaging is cheaper on a bulk lot just get the big pack. If the price per unit is the same then it won’t matter and you will be right.
And who are the other manufacturers that you are going to go to ? Sierra or Berger ? Good luck with getting a reliable supply from them here in Australia. In any case they are both currently around $120 AUD per 100 for match grade projectiles if you can find them.
@@con9605 Yes, The copperheads are a great 7mm 180 gn VLD option but again they are a bit hit and miss with supply as Ken is often waiting on supplies of jackets. And they still retail for around $130AUD per 100. Hoping any future offering from Hornady will be substantially less than that.
I wish they would let us mere mortals buy 50 round boxes of Critical Duty ammo. Volunteer fire fighters qualify though, because you can shoot the flames out apparently. Hornady is the greatest and stupidest company out there.
Hey Hornady. Why are you so scared to make a 6.8 Western cartridge. Oh wait I know why. You know if you do all your stupid Needmoore and PRC cartridges will be revealed for what they actually are. Pure overpriced overrated junk.
