Hahaha!!! What an episode ! My first automatic was the SKX009!;) my family were shocked when I told them I spent £200 on a watch!!!!!!;) oh my if only they knew what sort of Rabbit hole I fell down after that SKX!!!!;) great video as usual man!
I'm an old dog. Saying anything about a woman's shopping habits( no matter how innocuous or truthful) is the beginning of a conversation that winds up with you sleeping on the couch. So just smile.
Agree with you on this one Jory, i have a "poor man's collection" of HMT, Casio and different chinese watches and i feel good wearing every one of them, regardless of the price! Thanks for yet another great video!
Totally agree, we don’t hear this often enough in the watch community. I’ve been enjoying my Casio a700w and Seiko srpc93 way more than my Rolex, they’re just comfortable and fun to look at. Counting down the days to arrival of my Vostok, I’m sure that one’ll be fun also!
Well Done, Jory! I've been watching your videos for over two years now, but this was the best one yet. "If you're buying watches to impress other people you're probably not doing this right. My favorite watch, by far is my Hammy Field watch with no date. But I have several other watches too, and I enjoy them all, just like you.
I have never in my life spent more than $50 on a single wristwatch, and yet pretty much every watch I own makes me smile because I think about all the good times with them on my wrist. Whether it’s my Timex Dual-Shock on my wrist snorkeling in South Florida, my Casio GA-100 on my wrist as I took my niece & nephews to the San Jacinto Battlefield, or that time I did a gun count at work with my Casio CA-53 calculator watch. It’s the moments you share with your watch that give you joy, not how much you paid for it. EDIT: very fun story about my Columbia wristwatch. The very first time I took my Fiancée to swim in the neighborhood pool, I wore my Columbia wristwatch. That was also the night I learned that 30 meter water resistance ratings don’t literally mean 30 meters. I waterlogged that sucker in less than 2 meters of water.
Jory, I really enjoyed this video. I have a significant number of watches accumulated over the last half century. In fact, it was just weeks ago that I was thinking I was pretty much done. There were certainly no more watches that I needed and was very happy with those that I have acquired over the years. There really is no category of watch that I lack so I was feeling quite satisfied . Well, just this past Monday a box arrived and like a kid in a candy store I couldn't wait to open it. Out of the box came my new AVI-8 Flyboy Engineer - Edgar (damn you T3!) for which I paid a mere $242. I am mesmerised by this watch. And while several of my watches cost many multiples of the price of this piece, I just can't seem to take this watch off my wrist. So, I don't think there's a right price you need spend on a watch, it's more the level of satisfaction you get from wearing what you have. Kind of like our G-Shocks.
Hi Jory. Love your show lots of great information! All most all my watches were bought used but like new for between $400 to $1000 dollars. All Swiss or German automatics, mostly Hamilton, steinhart, Laco and Oris. This is my sweet spot. I currently own about 8 watches and love them all. All my watches are between 42 to 44mm except my Laco Dortmund at 45mm. Oh yes I just picked up a Christopher Ward C8 Flyer auto for $500.00 all figures are in Canadian dollars. Personally my favourite movement is the hand wined ETA 6497-1
I've been into watches since my early teens and thats probably hqd a giant impact on my taste in watches. I just really love the budget end of watches because there's so much fun stuff that you can find in the sub 200 dollar range. I mean sure I want to save up and get a nice sarb or a classy hami but man I'm just in love with the budget casios and seikos and the new stuff timex is bringing out
LOVE your channel and I am so pleased I found it ..I love your honesty there are a LOT of very "Thin-skinned" people about now in 2021. They get so "Butthurt" when you say that Tag Heuer is not a good watch.. You are only telling the truth ..If people get offended by this .. Well, that is just too bad. How much should YOU spend on a watch? ... How much you can afford is the simple answer. and I also own a Seiko 5 SNK809 and it cost here in the UK £68 GBP ( $93 USD) The Seiko is my "Every day" watch I wear for work and the Omega is my high day and holiday watch I wear for a meal or when I am going to the casino etc Great video and great channel.. Please keep up the good work
RIP, now that’s funny! I have a Seiko 5 I bought back in 1969 when I was 16 years old with the money I’ve earned. Cost me $24 and that was a lot back then to a kid. I still wear that watch occasionally and it always puts a smile on my face.
I agree with you time teller - price doesn’t always equal to more enjoyment. This does not only apply to watches, but pretty much most of the stuff we love to buy. I suppose the aim is to drop your ego when buying anything and only consider your own enjoyment
If you seemingly buy a “Rolex” it matters not what you pay, as it’s like an exchange currency of sorts. It fluctuates like any commodity and you usually get more or at least what you’ve paid for it when it’s traded or sold. In the interim you get to enjoy something most never own. Trading a more expensive watch will always allow you to purchase several different lower priced watch . However, a lower price cheeper watch usually won’t allow you to buy a more expensive watch.
At the moment I am hopping arround and wear my Bertucci and I love it. I don't know why. My buddys all know I am a big Seiko fan. A few of them asked me : Where is that big Seiko watch ? Have you sold it ? Do you need money? Ähäh no it was a freakin big thing to get a Bertucci to Germany, I had to order it over a Ebay Shop in the UK. That's what it makes a watch interesting for me, not the price it costs. To go in a Shop and buy a watch is easy bur searching a model and buy it elswhere in the world is a special kick for me. My next one will be a Raketa
So guys what I have started doing and I recommend it to you is setting up a part of your budget for watches. If you are interested in your personal finance you are probably already budgeting your expenses so why not decide to spent a % monthly on watches? Of course it doesn't mean buying one watch a month but you can accumulate this money on savings account and buy your dream timepiece after some time. This eliminates spending too much and gives you a huge amount of satisfaction when you finally can afford to buy dream one. Remember that having money doesn't money being able to afford something. And of course I agree that more money doesn't mean more enjoyment! Wish you guys a lot of fun with your watches ;)
I am happy with my 50$ StarKing....people always compliment me and I like it...that’s all that matters! I have a Timex solar I bought second hand for 35 US and I like it more than my heavy Tissot T-race! And yes it does take a licking and keeps on ticking because it does not have anything to prove. And that’s the key here....love whatever you choose...you have to love it...no one else!
YOOOO I love this video. I'm new to your channel, and a new collector, and my G-Shock Neo Tokyo is definitely one of my daily watches. I have the GA700BMC-1A version however and may pick up the one you have as well. Great content man. Keep it up!
Agreed. Just got my Casio W217 in the mail today. Having paid for it the equivalent of about USD 25, it is the cheapest in my modest collection, but it's a lot of fun and brings back the memories of the watches I had in the 80s. Or maybe it is just the fact that it's the first watch I buy in 10 years, :)
I’m only 16 and my watch collection consist of 4 watches. An Orient Ray 2, a Casio world time, a G-Shcok GA-100, and a Timex field chronograph. It’s not much but I enjoy all of them.
After watching Jody on JOMWIve learned that cheap watches are sometimes the funnest and most interesting. I have a few Omrgas, Oris, Seikos, but I also have a couple of Chinese specials, and those things are fantastic!
Love it Jory. I bought 2 pieces this year. A 2K Laco Topper edition and a $200 Seiko SPRE65. Both of them put a smile on my face. The Laco I enjoy more because it was the culmination of over a year of searching for "perfect." But it sure as heck doesn't make me 10x happier than the seiko. They're both amazing in their own way. Always look for value at a price point. Whether it's an Orient or a Lange
The watch I wear most during the work week is an automatic Orient Ray II also, a great watch and such a super deal at under $200. On the weekend I usually wear my Bertucci field watch which was just $130. It is quartz movement but it is titanium with 200 meters water resistance and looks and feels great.
I went a bit nuts and ordered a bunch of Soviet vintage and new Russian watches. An 80s Komandirskie, a 70s Pobeda small-second, a flieger-style Frankenwatch, and a couple of modern Amphibia "Scuba dudes". I flipping LOVE them. Total spend? Maybe £200?
Orient Defender I (series I, blue dial on the bracelet) is my most favorite watch in the collection. But, it is not the cheapest one. I have 2 others which are even cheaper automatics. But, the Defender is my most favorite. I like it more than all the other - even those costing 4 or 5 times more money.
New to your channel and love the content. I like your perspective! Also I about blasted my drink out at work laughing at “let’s go to home goods” 😅😅 truth RIP
Great Video ! Laught a lot about your pretty short lifespan 😄 I'm a Fan of this Topic. In Germany is everything about Value und Priceevolution of the Rolex blabla. Nobody seems to love the watches for what they are.... Watches! In my opinion it doesn't matter how much the watch cost, its about the feeling. Freundliche Grüße aus Deutschland/Germany 😄
An old Sales adage is ---- The quality/experience is remembered long after the price is forgotten. That sold a lot of Rolls Royce cars, when even their most basic model was the most expensive volume produced car. Then you could move upmarket, by simply buying the bare chassis, so that it could be fitted with a coach built custom body. And only Journalists asked ---- "What did it cost??" Phil.
Seiko SRPA-21 for about $300 is all you need ever. I am saying this as a watch collector. All my watches above this price I don’t prefer to wear because I am afraid smashing them or screw them up. All my watches bellow this I don’t like to wear because none of them I like enough to wear them all day. Only the Seiko Turtle Padi is seems to be in my Goldilock zone. I am wearing it all day long.
Honestly, most of my fav watches in my collection are under $100. SKX175, Vostok Amphibia 420, my new Vostok Komandirski 819072 and my Timex Mk1 California (hella summer vibes) - all get more wrist time than any of my expensive pieces
Great vid, came at the right time for me! I was looking for my first auto watch at 3 totally different price points and could not decide. I was very much leaning towards the watch in the middle or top of my budget but after this...i think i was falling into that trap of price = enjoyment...i took a step back and looked at them side by side and to be honest the cheapest of the 3 is my favourite. Theres a lot of places out there that refer to brands such as longines (which is one of the watches id like at the lower end of the budget) as entry level and that was really putting me off...but ignoring that and going purely on personal likes, the longines moonphase in blue and gold is 😍 For ref it was a longines vs an omega deville vs a preowned jlc moonphase. Significantly different prices... Thanks, this saved me a lot of money (and nights in the dog house spending that much on a watch!!!)
I'm keeping my absolute limit under 5,000 and that's mainly because of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive movement. Many other watches I like are sub 1000 or even down to 200-150. I just like being happy 😭😭😭😭
on the "don't buy watches to please someone else" I totally agree. You're one of the few youtubers that likes some open-heart watches but most of the ones I follow hate them as well as skeleton watches (unless they're Zenith or something in that range). However I own a lot of skeleton and open-heart watches with japanese or swiss movements (Rotary Les Originales, Hamilton, Seiko) and I really enjoy wearing them and like them as much as my more expensive watches. As long as you like what you've bought and you feel good and confident about wearing them (so maybe stay away from 50mm watches if you're not a Pro Wrestler or something), go for it, who cares about what other people on the internet think, especially if you don't even know them
@@miroslavrnjakovic8850 afaik he hates skeleton watches, but he actually find some open-heart ones ok, as they're more tasteful, he even made a top5 titled "Top 5 Open Heart Watches"
Evening Jory 😇 you are correct but the disconnect between price and enjoyment spans the entire retail Market, and it all depends on what particular niche someone is referring to. I have an Orient Ray 2 that I like a lot even more so than my Haemmer nd-02 but more often than not I find myself wearing my Benyar By-5152 w/ an nh35 that I paid $35 for that I really enjoy and can't quit looking at it looks so damn good 😇
You stay up late. Must be a watch fanatic trait! 😜 Cool video and idea. One I think most people debate when getting into this “game/addiction” 💯👍 Stay up‼️
yay, Jory!! love your content. I also love sitting watching your videos and sneering thinking "I MIGHT have done that....years ago." *sniff* lol thanks for the great advice!
I wish I could have gotten a orient defender in that grey. The defender 1 is going quick so I grabbed a blue faced one. Want to buy more watches but renovating a house and need a new phone lol.
👌🏽👌🏽Great video, and just what I needed to see. Now I can understand better why people would wanna pay much more than $100 for a watch they like. Would I do that...eh I’m good, enjoying my two G-Shocks and four sub-$100 Casios. I also enjoy seeing watches others are enjoying and the great value they got for the money. Cool intro too btw
Great video, so i'm a watch guy who looks for 40mm or less, must have a date, Lume, and it can't weigh a lot. With all that said...I love my G-Shocks with everything and made of resin. I'm actually in the middle of (my life with watches journey) and the happiness factor is leaning towards the inexpensive, less attention grabbing, forget your even wearing a watch weight, and to Hell with all the snobs, especially the one who looks back at me through the mirror... :)
Hey I'm new to this automatic watches or to say watches. I've been using fashion brands and recently started to appreciate the real deal with the actual watches. I'm thinking of purchasing my 1st automatic watch. Got a really good deal on both; - Tissot tradition powermatic 80 open heart (Rose Gold leather band) - Seiko Presage Honeycomb Could anyone please let me know what is the best out of these? Aesthetically love them both. So can't decide on one... 🤔

I'd say putting a quality watch on is like putting a very very good, probably made to measure suit on. In certain situations business and social it does make a difference, it says in business and maybe in life, you've had some success, you've done considerably better than ok. And sorry, it really does need to be a fair whack of money on your wrist, $5k+ for sure, a Rolex, an Omega maybe, not much less.
I go out to dinner wearing either a watch worth $ks or a Cadisen Sapphire Diamond, today I'm wearing my modded SKX tomorrow I may wear a Bremont or if I'm weeding the garden I'll wear my $10 Casio . Wear what you like and what you can afford, just enjoy!!!!!
I like an answer to that question: Buy that kind of watch you can "replace" almost immediately. So you are not down for half a year when something happened to them.
Not sure if you ever mentioned it in any of your other videos but what did you do for a job before becoming the Time Teller and are you still doing that job? Based on your expensive taste in watches and You Tube channel, i would guess probably something like a computer programmer at Google or something similar.
I generally agree but I would say though that you probably need to spend more than 25€ for an automatic watch because while I love my Tevise watches, they are a bit variant in quality.
I have a Gucci 4500m I bought at a garage sale for $10 plus a new battery so like $13 total and I think the value is sub $100. I personally love it and the Hunt for it makes it worth $10000 to me! My question is what is your opinion on Gucci watches? I had people tell me to stay away from them cause it's just the name that creates $. IDK . I do know I love having a watch from the 80s I see a country club golfer putting in the bag before the round begin
I'm not Jory, but the vast majority of Gucci watches are just cheap fashion quartz watches. Not say there's anything wrong with quartz watches - they're great - but the quality in Gucci is definitely not there. Not to mention their gaudy designs are purely to catch people's attention to the fact that it's a Gucci watch. You're literally only paying for the brand name in regards to most fashion brand watches - Gucci, Armani, MK, etc. Really in terms of watchmaking, they just aren't very good quality. I've seen £800 Gucci watches in the windows of some jewellers and they're probably just some basic low-end quartz movement that doesn't even have the seconds hand line up with the indices. Now, if you like something, you should buy and wear it all you like. But in terms of quality, there's significantly better options of a fraction of the price.
So $13.00 was a good deal. Thanks for the confirmation about the Gucci watch quality. Still not a bad score for garage sale enjoyment I bought in 2015 and still working great. Thanks again
A watch (properly cared for) will last a lifetime and beyond. All of the other things like cars, shoes, clothes... all of those things we covet and 'have to have' all decay rather quickly. Give me watches any day.
Off topic, I’ve been thinking a lot lately of your comedy and accents bits. Replying them in my head and having a good laugh. Should totally make a compilation video of them. Sorry mr editor man.
Honestly, A Bulova Lunar Pilot & a Seiko Presage are the 2 watches I probably get the most enjoyment out of. My Expensive Swiss watches, yeah they make me happy. I enjoy them a lot. But not as happy. Price does guarantee happiness. I know a few people who spent good money on a Rolex (explorer 1, submariner) and don’t find much joy in the watch because it’s rather bland and doesn’t command attention and praise like they though it would.
I think this question is asked because the next part is at what price point is a watch worth having serviced? Would you service a 140$ orient defender or toss it and buy a new one?
I like watches, a lot, BUT the most I would ever spend is $800 on a unit, above that is simply dreaming, unless I sell a bunch of what I have and put the proceeds towards a better unit...but I like what I have too much. BUT, I enjoy my $460 SARB017a bit more than my $700 SRPD15K1, although I have put a $160 Strapcode Angus Jubilee on my Alpinist, and a $? Blue Sharkskin strap on my blue butterfly fish SRPD15K1.

I always wanted a watch when I was a kid but I never got one until I was 18 lol, im glad others can enjoy them alot sooner because its a great hobby
Best I got was a Timex ani digi and was thrilled to bits with it. And it was a great watch for sure. Enjoyed it for many years.
I had a tiny pink quartz Lorus with Daisy Duck at ca. 7 years old XD I remember learning to tell time on it.

I totally agree one day I'm wearing my 1961 speedmaster then the next I'm bashing my loreo. It's the only way!
That is exactly my attitude, get the watch you like the most, for... you are the one who will look art it most freequently
I have several mid range swiss watches but the bulk of my collection are Timexes.
Hello! I buyed the Orient Defender II, this week and... It's beautiful, hand winding and the seconds stop when you pull over the crown. 185€ or 218$.
Another great vid from Jory! Top of the morning & cheers to all here on this T3 channel! 🍻🍺🍺🍹🍹🍸🍸🥂🍷🍷
What you can realistically afford!
True that regarding watches! About women, no clue.......
I have a 2 expensive watches but my main watch is my Orient Ray II.... still love it. I can take it anywhere and on any adventure. Great video!
The watch I wear most during the work week is an automatic Orient Ray II also, a great watch and such a super deal at under $200. On the weekend I usually wear my Bertucci field watch which was just $130. It is quartz movement but it is titanium with 200 meters water resistance and looks and feels great.
Thanks for the video...keeping the love of watches alive, irrespective of price.
Jory, I have a lot of watches and I enjoy them and love them all! I’m a “watch addict!” You have 125K subscribers! Congratulations!!
Maybe £200?
Thank you. I have a $20 Casio that gives me as much enjoyment as a Tissot or Glycine that I have. It's not the price, it's the feeling....
I had two, but the straps or casing breaks in no time. Get a cheaper Seiko. They last for ever.
Well said Jory, you hit the nail on the head with this video. I agree with you 100%!
New to your channel and love the content. I like your perspective! Also I about blasted my drink out at work laughing at “let’s go to home goods” 😅😅 truth RIP
I feel like I walked into the middle of a domestic disturbance.
This video made me feel better about my watch obsession, thank you! I’m going to look for my next watch now. 😏
Theres a lot of places out there that refer to brands such as longines (which is one of the watches id like at the lower end of the budget) as entry level and that was really putting me off...but ignoring that and going purely on personal likes, the longines moonphase in blue and gold is 😍
For ref it was a longines vs an omega deville vs a preowned jlc moonphase. Significantly different prices...
Thanks, this saved me a lot of money (and nights in the dog house spending that much on a watch!!!)
my dude your videos are awesome!
I just started watching your channel. I enjoy it. Can you do an episode on US made watches?
Yup, I have expensive watches but I wear my Seiko Monster the most, I enjoy it.
PADI turtle for me, love that thing.
And the Samurai for me, love the STO dials.
I also love sitting watching your videos and sneering thinking "I MIGHT have done that....years ago." *sniff* lol thanks for the great advice!
ironman shock with orange full case and strap is my only dive watch . using 6 years its super tough and special in color
Very true Jory. Great video.
😂 so relatable with the Connie thing
I wish I could have gotten a orient defender in that grey. The defender 1 is going quick so I grabbed a blue faced one. Want to buy more watches but renovating a house and need a new phone lol.
Any good sport watch brands ?? Is orient any good ?
I would love for you to check out some cheaper non g shock casios. You got an AE-1200? Such a perfect watch goes for like $16.
Aren't Timex, Lorus, Swatch and lower priced Citizen watches fine for the average person?
Can you please do a video on the Timex M79.
I'm thinking of purchasing my 1st automatic watch. Got a really good deal on both;
- Tissot tradition powermatic 80 open heart (Rose Gold leather band)
- Seiko Presage Honeycomb
Could anyone please let me know what is the best out of these? Aesthetically love them both. So can't decide on one... 🤔
Goodmorning everyone, 3 am.
8am in the UK :)
5pm Friday night in Melbourne Australia. When I logged in. Phil
@@japd7897 The day starts just off the East coast of New Zealand, then a couple of hours later off the coast of New South Wales, with my town Melbourne on the same time zone as the entire Pacific coast of Australia. So we are a day ahead of California.
The Internet, and particularly YT sure make us part of a Global Village, which I really enjoy. And you start to find people you know, or know of, popping up in your Comments. It's fun. Phil.
@@japd7897 You were not the only child to have that very logical thought. Now you should make the trip and confirm it for yourself, when the COVID 19 lockdown permitting.
This week the Premier was forced to enforce a total lockdown in the City of Melbourne. We have the Army patrolling the streets to enforce a 8pm Curfew, and only one person from each household is allowed to leave the house for food shopping for a maximum time of 1 hour, and only to food stores within a 5km radius, with every Retail Store shut down. It's tough. Phil.
@@japd7897 There are only two people in Australia, that you can find via Google with the name Phillip J Moodie. So if you ever get to make the trip look me up. The only reference you will find with a Google search is on a Federal Government Senate website, where there is still on record the submission made by Phillip J Moodie & Associates, which caused the Senate Select Committee on the National Broadband Network to immediately defer the release of the overdue Final Report that had taken more than two years to prepare. In lieu the multi-party committee issued its Fourth Interim Report that concisely recommend that the Government immediately cancel the $36.5 billion infrastructure, the largest Capital Investment in Australian history. The address on that document is changed because last month I sold the office I have had for 25 years, because I am suffering from the affect of concussion from a violent Criminal Assault. But I will re- establish my Internet profile, because I have a large computer industry project underway in the new 5G national Carrier market. But first I have to solve the health problems that are the result of a criminal assault. Phil.
Same thing with me with my love for sneakers. I have the same enjoyment with 100$ pair of Air Force 1 and 1000$ of Air Jordan
I'd say putting a quality watch on is like putting a very very good, probably made to measure suit on. In certain situations business and social it does make a difference, it says in business and maybe in life, you've had some success, you've done considerably better than ok. And sorry, it really does need to be a fair whack of money on your wrist, $5k+ for sure, a Rolex, an Omega maybe, not much less.
good video Jory. best regards
Good advice.
Not sure if you ever mentioned it in any of your other videos but what did you do for a job before becoming the Time Teller and are you still doing that job? Based on your expensive taste in watches and You Tube channel, i would guess probably something like a computer programmer at Google or something similar.
The rant was hilarious 😂
I really love my Orient Defender as well except the day complication is messed up.
I generally agree but I would say though that you probably need to spend more than 25€ for an automatic watch because while I love my Tevise watches, they are a bit variant in quality.
Jory, how much should I spend for a watch in Target?
Target(and a couple others) is the main reason I never feel bad about buying another watch.😂
That is so me 🤣🤣😅
I have a Gucci 4500m I bought at a garage sale for $10 plus a new battery so like $13 total and I think the value is sub $100.
I think you made this video to tell us about Connie.... We are here for you brahda 😁
A watch (properly cared for) will last a lifetime and beyond. All of the other things like cars, shoes, clothes... all of those things we covet and 'have to have' all decay rather quickly. Give me watches any day.
A very valuable video, thank you
Off topic, I’ve been thinking a lot lately of your comedy and accents bits. Replying them in my head and having a good laugh. Should totally make a compilation video of them. Sorry mr editor man.
Hold on, hold on , it's Friday 13:25, but you're 8 hours behind me & you released this clip 5 hours ago? Time Teller ? No : Time Traveller.
exclusively own gshocks and some cheaper casios. And not even the more expensive ones even though I plan to get a mudmaster gwg-1000.
shockushu muddy is great, I’ve got the older one. It’s big, though.
@@Pete...NoNotThatOne well, I'm almost 2m tall... So it should fit nicely
Nice, it’ll fit very well. I mean, it’s big enough to be seen from orbit, so...
I love my Invicta pro diver
Wow, the first Connie rant!
Great video
I think this question is asked because the next part is at what price point is a watch worth having serviced? Would you service a 140$ orient defender or toss it and buy a new one?
This video answered that. Do what makes you happy. He's getting an old Hamilton serviced.
thank you! Invicta owners unite!
