  • In this week’s episode of Playful Podcast, we meet with DJ, Producer, label- and event series creator of Selected, Frederic. In this conversation, we discuss:
    - The war that subgenres have created against each other, and why it happens.
    - What exactly constitutes “real” techno?
    - Techno clubs and where the dresscode comes from as well as being able to wear what you want.
    And much more.
Playful Podcast is available on Spotify, all Podcast Apps, and TH-cam.
All our Patrons get access to the extra material where Frederic speaks about the lessons he learned along the way when starting his own record label, as well as shares his best tips on how to start your own event series. You don’t want to miss this. Go to patreon.com/PlayfulMagazine.

I think the biggest problem with techno music becoming mainstream is its capitalistization. I think there isn't anyproblem with subgenres. As Frederic said, we can find quality music in all genres, but the disappearance of techno culture due to capitalistization is a big problem. I think sexualism, homophobia, transphobia and racism at parties are the result of this.

19:53 "Give people what they want". He has same capitalist mindset, with more light-spirited attitude.

Please don’t get me wrong but with give them what they want I meant that people should be able to listen to a specific subgenre that they want to listen to

As long as we move on from the soulless and hollow “hard techno” then we are heading back in the right direction. Anyone who goes on this show should start the show by directing people to DVS1 and every interview he’s giving on the topic of culture.

It's all good that there are sub gernes. I have tried them all. But don't bring those subgerne to a techno party and label it as techno. Keep them seperated, and don't label them techno because that's were the money is at now. I see a huge influx of people that I know went to hello kitty parties before, and now all of a sudden they are ravers... Because it's cool now.
