    I think 95% of the Infosys IPO investor went out after doubling or tripling their principal or near 2000's Tech bubble. The other 5% who hold infosys ipo holdings till date, came to this huge 4.1Mil INR is by not looking daily at the price fluctuations.
    If you were holding infosys and at the bottom of 2008 crash, what would have been your thought process!
    Patience is not easy!

    Mam, I have a doubt that....if company issue bonus shares then "our share amount divided in proportion to bonus" then why should company use reserves?

    • @nishitpatira1740
      @nishitpatira1740 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Share Holder's Equity has 2 parts -- Share Holder Capital & Reserves. When a bonus is issued, from accounting view point, money is transferred from Reserves to Share Holder Capital.
      Take an example
      Before Bonus
      Share Holder Capital : Rs 10Cr ( Rs 10 FaceValue * 1 Crore shares)
      Reserves : Rs 50 Cr
      Bonus of 1:1 given. So number of shares double to 2 crores and their Face value remains the same. So, to issue 2 Crore new shares of the same face value, money from reserves is used.
      After Bonus
      Share Holder Capital : Rs30Cr (Rs 10 Face Value * 3 Crore shares)
      Reserves : Rs 30 Cr (initial 50Cr - 20Cr for new shares)

    What is the difference between bonus and stock split? In stock split, face value gets reduced, but what is the practical outcome of that?
    Also, if the stockholder gets no 'free money' via bonus shares, why does the company need to take funds from its reserve to issue bonus shares?

      Stock split is to attract more investors (retail & Small investors) from outside
      Bonus share is for the existing share holders to issue more share as the company provide it in bonus.

    • @PawanKumar-yy3ql
      @PawanKumar-yy3ql 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Face Value remains same in case of Bonus as company provide this bonus from their reserves. In case of split share FV will change but reserves remain same. In both cases price per share decreases. So if you are getting dividend with same percentage as before then in case of bonus it will be more and for split it remains same

      Good.... Now don't eat away those dividends... Add some more money and buy some more share of a properly researched company. This is called dividend reinvesting. Slowly and steadily with the help of compound interest those dividend and share amount will become huge without you even knowing.
      For the FY 17-18.... I received a total dividend amount 1.4-1.5k from my portfolio yielding near 3.2%. Didn't add a hell lot of money in FY18-19, just reinvested those dividends + few thousands may be. Incurred a total dividend for FY 18-19 was 2.3k.
      So now I hope you understand the power of patience, reinvesting dividends and compound interest.
      If everything goes alright and companies don't cut their dividends by a large margin then for FY 19-20 I should receive near about 3k from dividends.
      Also if you to know more about dividend & investment stuff. Joseph Carlson makes some really good videos on this topic.
      And this comment was in no way a brag. Just trying to motivate a budding investor.

    Mam what if bonus share ratio is 1:10 for a particular stock and I am holding 18 such shares?
    Would I get only one share as bonus?

  • @shrenikshah7552
    @shrenikshah7552 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, how to differentiate bonus shares from actual shares while selling stocks?
    Example: I purchased 15 stock of one company and later I got bonus of 1:1 it becomes 30 shares and same gets reflected in portfolio and let's say I sold 15 stocks from my portfolio.
    How it's going to be decide whether actual share or bonus share sold out??
