Jungkook is the youngest member of BTS. Kpop isn't necessarily a genre, it's an industry. This is how Suga of BTS defined kpop when asked in an interview if he considered kpop a genre "K-pop includes not just the music, but the clothes, the makeup, the choreography…all these elements I think sort of amalgamate together in a visual and auditory content package, that I think sets it apart from other music or maybe other genres so again, as I said, rather than approach K-pop as it’s own genre I think approaching it as this integration of different content would be better.” This song is fully English (actually Jungkook's entire album called "Golden" is fully English). There has been some discussion on whether this song is kpop at all. The only reason people associate it with kpop is because Jungkook is Korean. If this same song was done by an English speaking western artist, it wouldn't be put under the kpop umbrella.
That's a really good way of looking at it! I always thought of it as a genre but I understand the error of my ways now.
@@Kazuzo ARMY insists on K-pop not being a genre and BTS not being K-pop because BTS went beyond what K-pop is. Expecting a certain sound from K-pop isn't the wildest idea but there are different genres in K-pop and hence different sounds. K-pop mostly is what people call "Idol music"
BTS does music however they feel like and according to what they want to transmit. They do music for themselves and music fans, not a specific demographic. They aren't afraid of trying new sounds - they love it
ARMY tends to differentiate BTS from K-pop because of BTS' past as well. We have kind of been ostracised from the K-pop community since even before BTS' debut. But now that BTS has become mainstream worldwide K-pop fans insist that they are K-pop while attributing BTS' achievements to K-pop's achievements, which is kinda annoying. Boracity Magazine has a bunch of videos on BTS's place in the industry and XCeleste has a video called "BTS Hardships (2013-2021)" highlighting some of the things BTS and ARMY had to go against if you're interested 💜

BTS is really not K pop at all is it? They cover so many genres and K pop is more like bubble gum crap. There are a few groups that are pretty good and few others trying to break the mold . BTS and all members all have their solo work.

Even though Jin is probably sleeping right now, but he's the first BTS member to officially return from his mandatory military service. 😭😱😊💜🎶 We got 1/7....now six more members to go until we reconvene in 2025!

Jungkook's entire first solo album is in English. The only thing remotely "kpop" about it is the ethnicity of the artist. As soon as BTS started making a splash in the Western music markets, they were very quick to create "Kpop" categories. Their reasoning is that it allows more artists to be recognized and awarded... in truth , it's just one more way for the music industry to keep the "other" out of the main categories.

Quick note Kpop is more of a industry like Hollywood than a music genre unless you consider rap, r&b, heavy metal, country, edm, disco, rock....are all USApop genre.
Loving your reactions so far! You'll soon discover that K-Pop isn't a "genre" but an industry. It's just Korean popular music. There are certainly key factors you'll see in many K-Pop songs, like an emphasis on choreography, but you'll also see plenty of genres, especially when BTS go beyond K-Pop and are considered to have their very own genre, the self-proclaimed "BTS genre." LOL, but also this track "Standing Next To You" is produced by western producers and is 100% a western pop-funk-disco track, so nothing is Korean about it except Jungkook. Just something to keep in mind! Keep it up :D

K pop is best described as Korean music Industry instead of a genre. It has different genres in it.
The choreo WAS an homage to Jackson very obviously.

They're seven unique guys with very different personalities and different tastes in music, 7 stars who come together and perform beautifully as one. They've been together for over 11 years. All 7 members areh solo artists in their own right but they choose to be BTS and see solo work as artist development. They are a Group of 7 Song writers, 7 Composer, 7 Producers all to a lesser or greater degree with the 3 Rappers being the most prolific.
They'll use whatever genre of music they want and combine whatever genre's of music as they see fit. They have complete creative freedom which is not the norm within the Kpop Industry.

Just as BTS have transcended from K-pop to mainstream, JK in his own right as a soloist has also transcended into mainstream, breaking many western artists records and even topping the charts with them for weeks on end.
His solo debut SEVEN that was released last July is still charting on Billboard 200 and Billboard 200 excl US. He was the fastest artist in History to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify with SEVEN.
He's been doing this since 13th June 2013 when BTS debuted. They are serving the military service at the moment Jin back in couple of days, the J Hope in october then Jungkook, RM, Jimin, V and Suga(aka Agust D) will be back June 2026.
The thing with BTS is you never know what you’re going to get musically. It is always top class whether as a group or solo

@@carolnikolov8469 No, JHope is the dance leader (different from lead dancer), and he and Jimin are Main dancers. JK is lead dancer. I think when V was moved to the dance line he was named lead dancer, too. Main is the top so JK and Jimin switch on vocalist and dancer.. JK Main vocalist and lead dancer, Jimin Main dancer and lead vocalist. Hope this helps. 😊

I absolutely love this song! I’m not so familiar with k-pop or Jungkook but this song hit me like a truck. Maybe partly because of Michael Jackson vibes. I’m 51 so he was part of my younghood
71 year old BTS Army here. This is another All American produced and written mega hit by Jung Kook. He once stated he wants to be a "giant pop star" and of course that means hiring the mega hit makers in the USA.
Not all of the BTS members felt the same as to the style of music and type of promotion for their solo works pre-military enlistment. Each one chose what was right for them and each was amazing and hugely successful which makes it difficult if not impossible to pick a favorite. JK chose to take on the biggest pop market in the world and he made all the right choices for that.
Grammy nominated producer/songwriter Andrew Watt alongside teams of award winning producer/songwriters Cirkut - a Canadian working in U S., John Bellion, Ali Tamposi, David Stewart, from the UK working in L.A., a co-writer of BTS #1 Billboard hit "Dynamite", and others.
All were recorded in L.A. at Watt's studio. There were American and Ukranian/Romanian MV directors and locations. The highly respected choreographer/dancers are primarily U.S. based and known worldwide.

They will probably continue with solo projects in addition to BTS. We have so much to look forward to!!!

Thanks for reacting to JKs song! One thing I'd like to mention is that BTS as a group or solo projects are NOT your typical K pop band. BTS is different on so may levels. I believe you will find this out eventually but you keep saying things like "Oh I see, K pop is like this and this" and I'm not sure you can generalize BTS with other K pop groups.. For me, other K pop groups just don't resonate with me the same as BTS. I believe that labels just don't apply with BTS. They are the best singers, rappers, dancers, song writers, producers and just so much more! Every single member of BTS could have solo successful music careers and together there is just no stopping them! This is just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to K pop bands that aren't BTS lol. The vocalists of BTS are no joke.
Jungkook is the lead vocalist of the group, although they have 4 vocalists that can all sing amazingly well. For their solo music, Jungkook aka JK, loves American kind of pop and he did lots of collabs with American artists on his solo album Golden.
V aka Kim Taehyung has a more old school R&B vibe and loves the classics. He is the natural baritone of the group but has a large vocal range so he can hit the high notes too. I would recommend his solo songs Fri(end)s and Love Me Again.
His solo album is called Layover.
The guys are also friends with Coldplay and did a song called My Universe with them, so Jin did his solo song called The Astronaut that Chris Martin worked with him on.
Jimin did a song on one of the Fast & Furious soundtracks.

Yes!! I saw them in one I checked out recently.
You're absolutely right about the MJ influence. To me it reminds me a lot of Off the Wall, his 1979 album produced by Quincy Jones (the sound is very much Quincy's style.) The producers for this track are Cirkut, who worked a lot with The Weekend (definitely an MJ influenced singer) and Watt, who worked with Post Malone (another MJ inspired performer.) You should also check out the remix with Usher (another disciple of MJ) - the mv is just great (and it freaked JK and all the dancers in the video - all top choreographers and dancers themselves - to be dancing with Usher.

Jungkook was nicknamed the KING OF KPOP after Golden! He is a GLOBAL POP STAR, and Idol of Idols and Arguably the Modern Day King of POP too!
JK is my bias and I ask you to consider not saying he is the modern day King of Pop. That is the type of rhetoric that may bring hate and resentment to him. MJ is the undisputed King of Pop and I know JK will agree with that. It’s your choice. Just asking you to consider it as someone who is apparently very proud of him (and rightfully so). We want to bring people to him, not drive anyone away. All said with respect.

Kpop isn't a genre, it is just an industry. BTS is at the pinnacle of achievment of all the Korean groups.
Between BTS as a group and the guys solo releases they have released around 400 songs covering various genres. Jungkook is a fan of MJ and this song was an homage to MJ. In the past year he and the other guys released personal albums as the group was broken up, temporarily, because of mandatory military service. In fact Jin who joined the army first was released yesterday. The group will all be back together in june 2025.

You should check out JUNGKOOK at the FIFA WORLD CUP Performance of DREAMERS! As you probably know, the world cup is the largest sporting event in the world, watched by 1.5 Billion people. People who listen to BTS, don't really think of BTS as Kpoppies. BTS is living in their own corner of the international music world.

If you're going to go with solo projects as well with BTS you've got a LOT to cover. Try V (BTS) Love Me Again or Rainy Days for an entirely different feel or BTS Blood Sweat and Tears
Jungkook solo album is not really kpop since only korean "thing" on this album is Jungkook himself.

It's also not really K-pop since it's completely in English and written by American writers and producers. Just performed by a Korean artist. Although, the whole album is golden! (pun intended) and JK hand-picked the songs that resonated with him. GOLDEN is a really really good pop album 💜

This was intended to be an homage to Michael Jackson and a nod to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. Where BTS is concerned, the K-pop label only applies insomuch as they are from Korea! Their discography spans hundreds of songs and just about any genre you can think of! Do yourself a favor and check out their live performances. This group is rare in that their live performances are even better than their MVs! The channel "Enjoy BTS More" has many songs with English subtitles. Keep digging into this unique and very talented group. You won't be disappointed! 💜

Just a FYI- BTS is an anomaly. Most don't consider them K-pop. They have their own genre. As a group and solo. All members break records, their is not one that says "I am the talent in this group". The talent in this group will blow your mind.😊
