- BMW windshield washer pump failure is a common problem in many older BMW's. The windshield washer pump appears to work fine but as soon as you use it, washer fluid starts to leak out of the tank. You may even see a pool of blue liquid behind your right front tire. To fix the problem the windshield washer pump needs to be replaced which isn't an easy task since the tank is behind the fender.
In this video I show you how to replace the front windshield and rear window washer pumps on an F25 series BMW X3. The process is similar to other models. I replaced the pumps on an E90 in the past.

Thanks Tom. I didn't have a can of soup handy but still managed to get the tank out, screens cleaned and everything back together.

Great tutorial! But who the heck designs a car where it is so freaking difficult to change a pump......oh BMW that's who!!
Thank you! It is a pain. If would have been nice if they at least managed to put the pumps in the front so all you had to do is turn the title and remove some of the rivets at least.

Do you know the Fuse # for the Windshield Washer Pump?
I did not hear pump is running... I want to make sure the there is power supply to the pump.
The back window Washer Pump does not spray too. Help please.

My problem is that the pump I can hear working and only a trickle comes out. The jets are not spraying, but the rear windscreen jet is pumping just fine. What could be the issue?
Maybe the nozzles are clogged. Try cleaning them.
How do you disconnect hose from the new assembly? There is a plastic sleeve that springs back and exposes blue tabs of some sort. What do you do from here on?
I didn't see this comment until now. I hope you figured it out but you remove the plastic clip withvav Starbucks save it should just pull out. If not to go slide the plastic rings on the house together to see if that helps.
For those who want do it just buy 2 pumps I made the mistake and bought 1 and replaced the wrong pump
Good tip. The aftermarket pumps are cheap. It's a lot if effort to get to them. Might as well do both.
