Here in the Pacific Northwest we also use a bait and diver set up and back troll with a kicker motor to cover lots of deeper slots. Killer for steelhead and salmon. I think back bouncing is a rush when you go to lift the tip up and you feel the head shake. Nice video
Do you guys have a jet outboard or is that a regular prop? I have a small flatbottom with a 15hp outboard with a prop and a river runner guard on it. Do you think that wouuld be adequate to travel along the lower parts of the muskegon?
I have a 14ft with a 15hp prop drive I use up by croton dam and thornapple. It's caged up but you still have to watch the rocks and so on. When the water is low I can't get around well but I get out a catch fish with it. That's what matters.
We have been using this technique on the White river in Ark. for 20 plus years, it works. We usually fish from the sides of the boat as our boats are narrow. We use a smaller bell sinker on a drop line, it is called a" White river rig."
I fish the same way with nightcrawlers works great got a lot of stealhead that way. I do it walking down the rifle river. Lite line size 6 hook small egg sinker.
Yes Sir, the Muskegon river flows out of Houghton lake, into Deadstream flowage, where Reedsburg dam is on the south end.....and eventually makes it's way to me in the Hersey, Big Rapids area. 🤘😁🤘
i’m suprised back bouncing is a real thing, too many snags and a lot of wast in gas and a lot of stuff bad😂 the prop goes right over them too and they don’t why scared from the wash

I'm surprised to see a guide lifting a steelhead fully out of the water with a lip gripper. Most steelheaders would give you an earful for that.

Boca Grips and salmonids DO NOT mix! Save 'em for the bass and pike.
thats the same combo i just bought. caught 2 steelies on it so far! amazing fights

Do roe bags digest in fish if I were to release steelheads caught on roe bags? Or thry essentially get plugged up and die so better to keep?
the nice thing about michigan is you are able to use your hand when you want to show someone exactly where you are located...

Reedsburg dam in Houghton Michigan is connected to the Muskegon river

Wonderful
I don't like the bola grip to suspend the fish's weight.
Please try and support the weight of the fish by it midsection
Do you back bounce the same way for the king salmon or do you crank for them?
