Thanks for inviting me to do this collaboration with you. I enjoyed doing it. And even although you can see my filming isn't the greatest you managed to bring it together in a nice way. Thanks again for sharing the Quartz and giving me an opportunity to cut it. There are not many facetable gems in Canada let alone Ontario so it is nice to be able to this. I look forward to sending you a few finished gemstones over the next month or so. And thanks to all those who watched and enjoyed this video collaboration and for the kind remarks throughout the thread.
@@coreymerrill3257 Hi Corey. Sorry for the slow reply. In fact it is a Graves Mk 1 which is about 60 years old. While I don't find the lack of speed adjustment to be an issue, I would be much happier with an adjustable speed dial and much higher speeds. That said, I have been contemplating finding a bit of a larger pulley for the motor which will increase the rotation speed of the lap however, it will also have less torque which could be harder on the motor "IF" I press to hard trying to cut too fast (which I'm not apt to do but it could happen). As far as learning goes, I recommend finding your closest Faceting Club where there are usually a couple machines to learn on as well as instruction (at least when Covid isn't upon us). Otherwise, definitely do your research, ask lots of questions and shop around to get the most for your investment. It is an extremely expensive Hobby. Best of Luck. :)
To the stone cutter....,.I have aq good friend who sells diamonds for a living and i always wondered how a stone was cut. I literally thought the cut the stone with little chisels and tools. Now i know. lol. NICE JOB!!! My buddy gave me a nice jewelers loupe
Wow that's so beautiful , I'm here in Quartzite Az and I've seen that clear Quartz here in the desert it's really cool the rock and gem shows are coming up soon here alot of people here already 👍😎💖💍💎 great video
Simple quartz made into a jewel! Beautiful work Chris. Thanks for showing us a little on how to facet. I'm lost in wonder at how you make so many perfect faces on a small stone, it's a marvel. Thanks for sharing.
That is a fine spot to dig up crystal quartz clusters !! Beautiful and very informative !! Great job on the faceting. Thanks for the great video and adventure !!!
Oh brilliant - I've always wanted to see how that was done (like it's a very BIG secret!) Wonderful - I'd probably be happy to have a big hunk like that on my finger rather than some tiny, expensive diamond! Especially if someone special had found it, thanks meMiner! Hope you're all good up there? 🙏🐾🐶🐾🦘🙏💎

Love the video. So cool to see. Disappointed with how so many folks tell you how easy it is seconds before they show you the $2000 machine to do it with 🤣 I’m a sandpaper and needle file kind of guy still 🤣

That is INSANE! So it's clear that "faceting" stones is a bit more involved than just taking a rock over to your garage's bench grinder... Ha. Seriously, very cool stuff. I never knew is was as involved as it appears to be but considering his finished example, I understand why now. That final stone was pretty amazing.
Beautiful! I have an area up here in the mountains where I find quartz crystal whole. Hoping to get back there next summer. Back surgery kept me from rock hunting for too long. Awesome video!💎
I would love to learn how to facet someday!! It would be an awesome use of broken crystals or any clear shards I find while out exploring. Really liked the video and all the good tips in there, thanks for sharing🙂
What a fascinating video. I’m afraid a tumbler is as refined as I am going to get…..but it was wonderful to watch how this gets done. Thanks to you and Chris. Oh….sixty isn’t old😆😆😆
I’m nominating this video in the category of Rockin Gems for Best Video and Best Collaboration. Where will the You Tubie Awards be held this winter? How about Southern Missouri so we can g o crystal hunting too!
ok, so have you seen the new "glowing" material? The rough is called by girasol I guess, but the faceted stones are breath-taking! No one really knows what it IS (some call it moonstone, but thus far my gemologists have tested it to be quartz), I have 4 stones out at 2 different labs getting chemical analysis done to determine exactly WHAT the quartz is. But if you can get your hands on some nice big clear rough, go facet it. The stone cutters do amazing work with this material over in India and Pakistan.
Found a fantastic song for any of your videos. Check out Jake Brandt Take My Breathe full. Perfect vibe for your vids. Let Dave Williams do the LETS GO! with banjo music. I'd rather watch your laid back style and great attitude any day. Love your content!
I'm having a bad time trying to get a good polish on quartz. I even have a darkside. Could it be too much of the oxide causing scratches during polishing?
Too much polish is simply an expensive waste, but likely won't hurt. Quartz is relatively hard, so I now tend to tumble stage 4 polish for 2-3 weeks in a rotary tumbler. I burnish afterwards. If you don't get good results, maybe change your polish to another brand
I never could do any of that as i never could afford the machinery :( Sad, because where i live the ground is stuffed full with gems and minerals and metals. To the rim too.
@@meMiner all good, sad that here in the Netherlands we cant find anything nice in the ground. I hope in the future after 'you know what' I can venture out somewhere to get some nice stones in person too 😁
@@liveyourdreammedia I metal detected some of the beaches there and found lots of coins. but no jewelry. I know a few people who have found Roman artifacts in the fields. No rocks, but I love the country
Sorry, meMiner, Quartz cutting and polishing is perfect senseless! Crystals are never perfect, why? Born from a seed, growing in a not so nice environment, now million years old can they tell us NATURE. Impurities and bad shape are like up and down times in our life. Finally, no one can improve an octagon diamond.
On one of my first field trips years ago, I was paired up with a few expert collectors. I picked a few rocks and asked them to confirm "it's a good rock". The answer was "If you like it, then it's a good rock". In this case, I like the cut quartz, so to me "it's a good rock." You have a different opinion and I respect that. Thanks for sharing. @@meMiner yes, as a kid all my stones where good rocks, I put some paint on and they became precious. Strange, I got interested in minerals and crystals. Fascinating was to learn No leaf, no crystal has a perfect twin. Is it not primitive, to cut and polish ordinary quartz?
