Colin, you've outdone yourself this time. I've enjoyed all these "hacks and tips" videos though many are aimed at beginner-level woodworkers. But all 5 of these were top notch and worthy of immediate implementation. I hate dismantling the hose inside the cabinet to find an arbor nut, and once I had to dismantle some of my hard-piped system to find one that had made it thru the 4" pipe to the 6" riser. And that plywood blade cradle is a great idea, since all table saws seem to have minimum working space around the arbor.

Love your hacks! I use two hands to put the blade over the arbor. With left hand holding the blade, I put the middle finger (you know, the one we sometimes drive with) of my right hand through the hole. Nudging the blade up to the arbor I can feel it with the end of my finger and gently guide it onto the arbor. I've never dropped a blade. I use the same technique for the nut, dropped only one in twenty years.

Many excellent suggestions. @7:15 "available anywhere"....nope, 55 years of trips to hardware stores and I've never seen a clamp like this ANYWHERE! Also, anytime you're working in a place (saw, car, etc.) where something may 'fall through' simply start the job by packing the bottom of the work area with a bulky, oversized rag.

Love the tips, particularly the tape measure tip. ive got 5 of them because I'm always constantly losing them, and can (still) never find one. But by using the magnet idea, I can also screw in a series of metal strips or washers, at strategic points around my workshop. That way, I always know where to look for a tape measure- as long as i can get in the habit of always putting them on one of the magnets, of course.

Most 'Tips & Hacks' I see are for noobs and show things the rest of us already know. This was a good one. I particularly liked the magnetic tape measure tip. I would add that you should use a smaller, short tape measure - six feet or so (how often do you need a longer one at the table saw?) or maybe even just a steel rule or yardstick. Just make sure all your measuring tools agree with each other.

Did not think of that.. what you said about the table saw rule and the blade. I usually use a ruler or tape measure to set the blade distance. This time I was making a segment sled for my son.. I started to use the table saw tape and would cut apiece and then measure it and it was slightly off. Could not figure out why and went back to my tape measure. After your video I thought my saw is a Ridged table saw and I think it comes with a thin kerf blade and I was using an 1/8” blade. Thanks you cleared that up. The other thing I have heard is to use the same tape measure through your project as they are not all the same when measuring.. Bruce from the City of Orange in Orange County California.

"You can buy that high density plastic at any plastic shop." Yeah, my town is a bit scant on "plastic shops." Just kidding of course. I just came across your channel last night, and absolutely love it. You offer so much great information and useful tips. Instant subscriber. Any tips on building a removable top to upgrade a cheap SkilSaw table saw, and turn it into a decent saw? Everyone's shop revolves around the table saw, but unfortunately a lot of us were forced to go the bargain basement rout, and just can't get accurate cuts from these cheap saws. Every video I find about upgrading these saws, they build these monster cabinets to house them in, or at the very least the much larger tops they build aren't removable, so they take up a lot of room in the garage. I just want to make a removable top with some accurate miter slots, make a good fence system and a good cross cut sled, all of which I'd like to be able to remove from the saw and hang on my garage wall to conserve space when they aren't in use. I know, that's a tall order, but there you have it. No doubt there are a lot of us who have this same need, but it all starts with a decent accurate saw top.

Those are some good tips. I retired a few years ago, as carpenter, I have done everything centered around the building of a house, I have built dozens of full kitchens and bathrooms. even modified cabinets to work around a new appliance. The last 10 years I made my living doing that. IN all the years I never carried anything less than an1" wide tape measure. I have the 3/4 " wide but mostly they just take up space in my tools box. every time I use one they are more frustrating than anything. why do I see so many videos using the 3/4" tape measure, Too me they are just too flimsy to get an accurate measurement. thanks for the videos.

Hi Colin, I like the use of HDPE but you didn't mention if the piece you used was straight or how you straightened/checked it.
I use it for the sled sliders to reduce friction - good stuff but even the small pieces I have are slightly curved and impossible to remove - I just have to work with them not against them.
Thanks for all the tips - I will def use some of them.

The magnet on the tape, I like that! What if you took a magnet and put on the inside lip of the actual tape that comes out.... now you can stick it to metal pull the tape and without having to hold the tape with two hands. Make sense?

Some very useful tips, especially the tape measure. I spent a long time fussing with the ruler on my table saw fence and it wasn't for a good while that I realised it was actually pretty pointless, blades vary in thickness, sometimes you work with the left or the right of the blade and a lot of time I use a sacrificial fence or a little offset block and the sliding table, so the ruler is all but useless.
On the rare occasions I was using the ruler, I would always double check the measurement anyway, it might as well not be there! lol. So now I just don't bother looking at it and use a tape every time.
