It's likely that once upon a time, before the advent of Modern Hebrew pronounciation that there was more variation. You can still hear vestiges of it in many communities, but I would say they are probably in the minority now.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am usually pretty good at memory, but I could not figure out how to put mnemonics to dots! Thank you for making it very clear. Blessings.
I like it please sir, and I love your lecture. Please sir, if you don't mind I need you to helped me with original card of Hebrew alphabets. I saw them with someone in my school, and he told me that they were given to him. When he went to Isreal.
Shalom brother iam from india your's video is very nice.Brother i want to buy a hebrew language book with all bassic information and spoken hebrew like grammer ,vocabulary pls suggest me a useful and best book.. thanking you
The book you'll want is called HaYesod. Check it out here: www.amazon.com/Ha-yesod-Fundamentals-Hebrew-English/dp/0873062140/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hayesod&qid=1549995823&s=gateway&sr=8-1
thanks but i am very confused, because i have a list of vowels from the internet saying that the Qamets(AH-sound) can also be a Qamets-Chatuph(OH-sound) could you see if you can sort that out cause it is really confusing. not even my grandpa can work it out!
Thank you Michael Weis for this lesson, the previas 2 parts to this lesson and the rest of your channel. I'm confused about something, and that is, I'm sure it said in another Hebrew lesson that the 2 vertical dotted niqqud symbol is also an E sound even though you said they can only go horizontal for E.
Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Yes, there is a "phenomenon" in which the Qamatz vowel can sound like AH or OH. When it sounds like OH, it is known as Qamatz Katan, or the "little" Qamatz. I'm not sure why having it sound like OH means it's little, but that's what it's called. It's due to a grammatical issue that I had not meant to introduce so early into the process, as it's a slightly more advanced concept. Needless to say, it can be complicated. Maybe I'll make a video about it.
Am I late to tell you this? I love it, Michael...it doesnt waste my time.....why? 1 you put them in category, a, e, i ,o and uhhhhhhhhhh.... 2 you give the tips to recognise them easily. 3 you explain what is needed for understanding and remembering for language learning. i 'm sure that you need to explain more but lack of time, dont you? ^^ 4 you make it in the light way not too academic which can attract people like me You have done a nice job......For average IQ people (more than 40%) to learn new language, it needs time and explanation...... But for over average IQ people (less than 20%) I suggest you guys to register to the university and pay the fee for the faster class.........Dont waste your time here ^^
Jesus, this is so complicated, one letter, a thousand variations, five e, four a etc.. How am I ever supposed to learn this? And then there is the fact that the Niqqud is often not even used, you just have to guess the pronunciation... :// I remember when someone in Israel told me: We do not have vowels. Dude, you have like trillions!!!! Hahahaha
It's a quirk of modern Hebrew. Once upon a time, there was probably a difference, and in some communities there is still a difference, but not in modern Hebrew, upon which this video was based.
Why not put the letters and vowels up without so much rambling? 80% of your 3 videos have rambled on and wasted so much time...no need for explanations or "this is important..."
+David Bean Fair enough. These were the first such videos that I made and I was working with clunky software. Probably could have done things more succinctly, but I figured it was better to leave it up than remove it. I wanted it to feel like we were sitting in the same room talking it through.
I actually liked how he did it. I have a class at my University where I am practically teaching this to myself, so it was nice to have someone explain it all to me.
Nearly a decade later and this is still the most comprehensive and easily digested lesson on the Hebrew vowels.
I'm so pleased to hear you think so. Good luck with your learning!
