Hey Bentley! I will add on one more piece. For those that have a Sam's club membership... they sell petsmart giftcards...$80 for $100 worth of giftcards.. so save an additional $20 for every 100 you spend. So, in your example of a bigger filter or tank set.. you could be saving another 20, 40 or more. We always look for the deals. 😊😊😊
Now if I could just figure out way with petco half price tank sales. 🤔

Problem is price matching requires exact item, because our generic tanks are TopFin and not the Aqueon that Petco sells during the tank sales, they aren't able to be price matched. HOWEVER, if Petco was smart they would honor a competitors coupon as PetSmart does.
For sams is that just petco?! Any other gift cards with deals like that?!
@@Blindlabel Hi, I am about to try it but I wasn't that good at the puzzles. I only got the 10% and the 15%. Only got 2 of 3 stars for the 20% one. Also I think you are misunderstanding the price match thing that he spoke of. He's not talking about matching another store. There is often a disparity in price for the exact same item on THEIR OWN website. I ALWAYS look up the item I am about to buy when shopping in the brick and mortar store. They will always match their website price if it is lower. I think they intentionally price some things higher to help the profit margin and pay the rent and payroll. Hope this was helpful!
Petco tank sales are easy. They are like every 2-3 mths.
Coming from someone who works at PetSmart, we only allows one treat trail coupon per transaction. If they do more than that they have to manually override it, which they likely will not do.
Found this out the very first time I step foot in their store. A lot of their online pricing is much cheaper than their shelf pricing. Always compare prices, great way to save.
I love videos like this cause this is a LEGIT trick, not like when people figure out the way to bully their way into winning. This is just informing people who weren’t aware of the price matching and how to use it. Thank you!
Just did this at my local Petsmart to get an FX2 for $165. Normal in store price $320. Price match app to $270 then stack the 20%, 15%, and 10% coupons.
The cashier didn’t think it would work but scanned them anyways and they all went through.

Often during Petco 50% off or dollar per gallon you can get PetSmart to match, then apply coupons. Another tip!

If you read the bottom of the coupon on the treat trails, it states that it's not to be stacked and can't be used with any other coupon or offer.

I actually use to work at PetSmart. If you notice something wrong as well like with the packaging most of the time you can get a discount from that as well. This trick does still work but we don't have the treats trail any more unfortunately but if you guys all call corporate we can try to get the treats trail back.

I never thought about doing the price matching deal with their own website. I always loved that I could get things cheaper online (to pick up in store) than I could in the store, but other times, it was so annoying. I didn't want to pay more by buying it in the store. This will definitely help me. Thank you so much.

I've been doing this for years! I bought a 125g, fx6, and smaller stuff as well. I've never tried to use all the coupons at once, just waited for sale prices. Great idea tho!

Within the last 2 weeks, I bought 2 Fluval M50 heaters at Petco, marked as $38 on the shelf, by having them price-match their own website for $16. I also bought a Whisper 40 air pump (~$28 on the shelf) for about $6 after the online price-match and the 20% VitalCare discount. Now, I always check the online prices before checking out at the store. Also, if you pre-order >$50 for in-store or curbside pickup, there's an additional 15% off. The trick to that is finding $50 worth of stuff you need available at the same location....

no they won't allow stacking. that was a mistake in the beginning. now they will only allow one, once they try scanning additional coupon, the previous one cancels

One of my stores doesn’t let you stack it up was able to get still get the stand 40% with the 20 and another 20% for online so I’ll take it :) need to play again for my filter lol or might use it on the fluval 3.0 light 😂 you giving me great ideas but my wallet won’t be happy 😂

Unfortunately they've killed off the trail so you can no longer get the stacked coupons. There is supposed to be a replacement to treat trail coming but nothing has shown up yet.

Hey Bentley, can you tell us what shelves you are using for your tanks? I am looking for something to handle a 55 gallon on bottom rack and a 40 breeder on top.
The ones behind me came out of an old fish store that closed down and were custom built. Good industrial metal shelves that are the kind you knock together and use plywood (not particle board!) Are great options. So are the husky shelves you can find at Costco or Home Depot/Lowe's etc, just put plywood over the wire shelf.

It's really in Petsmart's best interests for consumer's using these "tricks" in their stores. They want you to pimp their games, etc to get more people in more stores more often :)

Welp it seems they fixed the trick. The app wouldn't let anyone see coupons for awhile, and after an update you can now, but the machine will only scan the highest value coupon at the store.
Might be a silly question but does the coupons apply to the animals there like the fish?
In looking at the legal text on the coupon itself, the only thing that it excludes is purchases of gift cards and services like dog grooming. The real question is are they going to consider a singular fish one item or 20 of a fish one item. Because the discount only applies to a single item per the coupon. This might be a good question to ask. Just your local PetSmart they'll probably give you better answer than I can
Hey brother, i wish i would have known about this earlier. I just set up my 12 tank and purchased all kinds of items. I spent a lot of money. Oh well, I can't unring the bell. I'll definitely try it next time. Thanks a lot for looking out for us fish enthusiasts.
Two things: the code is the same for everyone for each prize level and changes every coupon cycle. If you have a bunch of friends, one person can get the 25% and send it to everyone.
The second is to look closely at the rimless tanks. They come packed one inside another at some point and if someone never separated them, you could have up to 4 rimless tanks in one package (I did) When you look inside the tank, if you can see all the way through it, then you know there’s nothing else in there, but if it is packed full, and everything is super heavy then it is probably got a tank inside of a tank inside of a tank inside of a tank. Like Russian nesting dolls

Now if I could get someone to help me in the fish dept at my local petco. There’s only 2 people that can supposedly handle live animals and plants and they are always on break together whenever I go in. I have also had to walk out mid ring up because the service is non existent or they mad dog you for interrupting their socializing with each other. Every time I go there I always tell myself never again .. unfortunately I can usually go shopping after 6 pm and most small shops close by then - and my animals need to eat-

There wasn't a treat trail icon at the bottom on my app.
Store Leader here, only 1 coupon should be accepted at a time. Petsmart will likely lock these coupon to your TREATs account so sharing is not a good idea. Price matching and coupons are always great tips to utilize. Additionally I would reserve these big coupons for holidays as Fluval products are often features of our ads.
So... question for you - Why wouldn't I be able to log into the PetSmart app w/ the same ID (email) and PW that I use to log into the website? Keep getting a ID/PW does not match message, but I can log into the website from a PC just fine...

I have been doing this because i just bought a fx4 and in store it was 350 on the website it was 300 and they had aquarium heaters 300watt heaters in store $46 on website $23 so i got 2 for the price of one.
None of my stores can the treat coupons due to the system only accepting 1 per purchase
Do all canister filters require drilling holes in your aquarium ?
Nope, canister filters are designed without the need to drill holes in your aquarium. Typically, you only need to drill holes if you are trying to hide some of the equipment or you're using a sump

The Petco vital care member discount stacks on top of the 10% order online discount so when they run one of their 50% off sales all the tanks are 75% off. Makes it easy to make a bunch of bad decisions 😂

Correct in concept but bad math. Stacked percentages are not directly additive. 10% and 10% for example is a net of 19% off not 20%.

I haven't had that issue before. They're all the same I have been told so in theory a screenshot of someone else's would work

Update: (if curious) loaded the app on the wife's phone (Iphone vs my Android). Coupons showed up! But showed the account had no stars completed hah

Lol... I saw your post, and have been looking for some plants, so went to Petco's site to see what they have. Picked 5-6 different plants, and each one was not available. Not for local pickup, not for shipping... All show as 'Out of Stock'.

It depends on the store. I had somebody recently report to me that they had it work at their local store but they don't let me stack all three at my local store anymore. Give it a try! Always worth trying

I hate video games, and It's taken me days and I still do not have a 20% coupon. Also it specifically says only one coupon per purchase, so I won't even bother asking about stacking them. Glad it worked for you, but I don't see myself putting time into this again.🤦🏼♀️

They discontinued Treat Trails on 11-1-23, probably due to misuse. Now we are all screwed.

Love all of this advice but I can guarantee that petsmart will sooner than later make an app update to fix this so that only one coupon can be used in 24hrs, etc. And that the stores/employees will eventually get a Memo on specifically not allowing more than one coupon during a one day period, etc. Again, thanks for the advice as it is beneficial, however I think it is a short term trick.
It's one coupon per visit. You can use all 3 the same day but have to make multiple purchases
@@danielnicholson300 exactly however the way this trick works is to be able to use multiple coupons in a single visit/purchase which it seems like some locations will accept but potentially due to a misunderstanding or lack of company coupon policies
@Spencer I'm not sure about other states but the stores in SC couldn't stack the coupons even if they wanted to because their computer won't allow them to. I've tried at a few different locations in the past and unless you find one with a manager that's just willing to manually punch in a discount, it's impossible to get this to happen
Just tried this today at a PetSmart and the computer system didn't allow the cashier to scan more than one.
From what I've read, this trick was largely nerfed. Has this been your experience when you've tried it lately? Also, I get my tanks from Petco where they have a 50% discount from time to time.

@@BentleyPascoeWell, I'd still say that using the 20% coupon is still worth it. It's not as overpowered as it used to be, but combined with price matching, I'd still say that it's worth it.

I price match from their website all the time and just in that alone when I bought 3 FX6s I paid $750 including tax. That being said... and I wanted to share this with folks... I bought 2 in 1 store and 1 in 2nd store. Store manager told me to my face that HE THOUGHT I WAS TRYING TO SCAM THE STORE. I looked him straight in the eyes and said... look at your shelf... what does it say... X... ok look at the petsmart website... what does it say... Y... then why do you think I am trying to scam the store? He replied that he has never seen anyone buy more than one of these at the same time.
I am like dude... how many people do you know that have a giant 300 gallon acrylic aquarium?
In any event while I am happy I saved big price matching... I am not entirely impressed by FX6 to validate it at any price. I run K1 fluidized and static to filter my 300 and use FX6s when I am servicing stuff in my filter room to keep my tank running. Cleaning FX6s is a giant pain in the fish arse.
Thankfully I've never had that experience, most of the PetSmart folks I've interacted with are generally nice, albeit rarely very fish savvy.

Going to a chain like PetSmart for hardware items is a good idea. You can get screaming deals!
These include all things like filters, tanks, heaters, and substrate.
(Note, avoid Red Sea products)
But fish, food, and any plants should only be purchased thru reputable fishkeepers and dealers.
PetSmart fish and plants are sick and disease ridden.
Furthermore, the staff is uneducated, offering nothing but an ignorant shrug to all to important questions.
