    I believe they will ruin that beautiful paradise by continuing to build islands and along with that comes thousands more visitors. My guess is that $$$$ talks and that is how they are permitted to dredge. Maybe after the motor gets broken-in that the mpg will improve. I don't have much experience on boating at night so I'm curious are you watching your radar when on autopilot on your trip to the Bahamas? Anyhow, as always I enjoy your videos.

    Have you ever thought of putting in a jack plate?? A jack plate can improve a boat's performance in several ways, including:
    Better fuel economy: A jack plate can help improve fuel economy by reducing drag and resistance.
    Increased speed: A jack plate can increase speed by reducing drag and resistance.
    Improved handling: A jack plate can improve handling and make it easier to plan.
    Access to shallow waters: A jack plate can raise the engine vertically, allowing the boat to navigate shallow waters.
    Reduced corrosion: A jack plate can lift the motor out of the water when docking to reduce corrosion.
    Optimal setback: A jack plate can increase the space between the motor and the transom, which can improve performance.
    Rough water performance: A jack plate can lower the engine deeper in the water to help the boat stay on plane in rough seas.
    Engine height control: A jack plate allows for more control over the engine's height and performance.
    Jack plates come in both manual and hydraulic versions, with manual versions being less expensive. The size of jack plate needed depends on the length of the boat.

      Hey Capt! Don't know if you tried the Eco prop. You have to get the hub kit to fit Yamaha. Not cheap, but you will save in the long run,and pay you back on the eco. You know the pitch to run, but it makes "THE" best economy,aswell as performance. My buddy is going faster top end,and saveing fuel in his "sweet spot". Keywest Waterman from utube does a comparison. He has them now too. He has Mercury 225 but you can buy a hub kit to fit yours. Look into it Capt. Checkout Keywest's comparison too! I believe they are what your looking for! "ENERTIA ECO" prop!

    I’ve been in the boat business for most of my 40 yr career. Selling Yamaha and Suzuki outboards. Typically you want the cavitation plate ( aka ventilation plate) about 1/2” to 3/4” above the keel of the boat. If you watch the close up of the water coming off the keel you’ll notice the water comes up as it comes off the keel when on a plane. Raising the motor one more notch will probably help.

  • @tomd.43
    @tomd.43 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    This is what I found on line: "On plane with proper outboard motor height and trim, the AV plate should be slightly above or at the water level. Visible and being splashed with water, not buried." From your video it looks about right.

    I thought you needed to raise the motor before but after looking at your video it looks pretty good. Like others have said, a higher pitch 3 blade prop will give you better fuel economy for sure. For every degree higher on pitch it reduces your rpm’s by about 200. Also, a 17 pitch goes 17 inches forward per rotation. A 21 goes 21 inches per rotation so you can see going higher your moving through the water faster and your rpm’s are reduced. Both things give you better fuel economy.

    Maybe a custom-made propeller based on boat size/weight and the engine's horsepower? Tell the shop what you are wanting as far as speed, MPG, etc. Little bit more trim tab? That engine must be heavier? Moving faster and saving time using a tad more fuel means: "Time is Money". The engine will only get more efficient with time and use. The people that suggested the jack plate probably know way more than me. Sounds like the MinnKota needs a service? The CPH is running like a sports boat, Don Aronow would be proud! From what I observed with the engine trim all the way down, the engine mounting height seems ok. If it was too low, you'd be getting side spray from the lower and the steering would feel tight. Your four blade prop "might" run in the highest mounting position, but I don't believe that a three blade prop would run that high without slipping.
    Hard to be 100% sure without a sea trial. As expensive as fuel is maybe you should try the highest position.

    Hey cap, if the cavitation plate is below the keel, then raise it up, in my experience I like the cavitation plate even or an inch or so above the keel. Too high then the boat starts to porpoise and you have to manipulate the trim tabs to get the boat to run right and then prop blows out when you start to add trim. Typically if the boat starts to porpoise that means the prop is slipping a bit, it is grabbing and trying to lift the boat but then it slips, usually adding cup to the prop resolves this issue. I certainly would not be opposed to trying the top mounting position but I think when you add pitch to your prop and a bit more cup I think you will find the sweet spot. Maybe a prop like the Solas Scorpion Prop would be the right trick, they are great props not too expensive and they come with a good bit of cup out of the box.

    Hi Capt. I’ve been enjoying your journey with the new engine. I was hoping you’d go for a Suzuki but with gauges, engine fitting etc I fully agree with the reasons for staying with Yamaha. Your fuel economy is terrible, no doubt trialling props and adjusting height will see big improvements. I get 3.5 mpg with a 300 Zuke and my boat is bigger and heavier than yours. If you watch your video you can see how the curled power cord constantly bounces up and down and over time that can cause the wires inside to come apart. Might want to check that. Jack plate would make sense. Believe also the small incremental changes you made on the last engine made your gas mileage increase. Thanks for being awesome captain.

      @GingerNinja68 Thank you captain and yes I'll make this new move and raise the engine up a little more the last bolt And go from there to see if it fixed anything and thank you for being an awesome viewer of the channel And see you on the next video

    Adjusting the motor height will not help. The video shows you are at a good running height now, with water just over the cav plate.
    I think your mileage is bad because you are using a 15” pitch 3 blade prop. That is way too small.
    You need to go to a 20” pitch 4 blade prop which will reduce your WOT rpm and top speed, but increase your efficiency and thereby reduce your fuel consumption at normal cruising speeds of 4000 to 4800 rpm. Higher pitch = better gas mileage.
    There is no way you should be running at 5200 rpm in choppy seas trying to get over 2 mpg. You are beating yourself and your boat up for no reason. As mentioned below, your minnkota issues may also be related to loosened wires due to all that slamming.

      @@lengadaleta5051 And what diameter of the four blade prop captain?

    • @lengadaleta5051
      @lengadaleta5051 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Stay with the same diameter, or larger. Don’t go smaller on diameter.
      Higher pitch props generally give you better milage since your rpm is lower over the distance travelled…takes less revolutions to get there.

      @lengadaleta5051 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Look at it this way Captain:
      Pitch is the distance in inches (theoretical without any slip factor) that the boat will move forward for every revolution of the prop.
      So, at “4000” rpm with a “15” pitch prop, your boat will travel 4000 x 15 = 60,000 inches = 5000 feet in one minute.
      At that same 4000 rpm, with a “20” prop, your boat will travel forward 80,000 inches = 6,666 feet.
      See the advantage? More distance for the same gas burned.

      @lengadaleta5051 That makes a lot of sense His captain , but if the diameter is not big enough according to the Is the boat size and weight It could be some slippish and you don't get those inches Of the pitch
