It was a pleasure to meet you in Bimini Captain. I'm sorry to hear about the propeller not giving you the best performance, it happen to me with my 350 Verado until I found my middle happy. Just keep playing with different pitch propellers.. Sorry, i took your spot for checking in Bimini 😂 ...I hope you had a great time out there.

Hey Captain I've been watching your Videos for the last couple years and you have provided me with some really great ideas, such as the Generator and the ac system that you rigged up for the crooked pilot house. I chose to go with a marine air ac system and spent the $$$$ to do so. I really pondered putting in something similar to what you did. but with me owning a Plumbing & Ac business i went with the water cooled system and had installed it on My C Dory 26' Cruiser with the help of my employees. We used the same type generator that you use and it ran the ac system perfectly Along with other things while we were in Everglades Np in Flamingo for 8 days April 24 then travel down to Cudjoe Key for another 8 days. we then trailered our boat back to our beach house outside ocean city Maryland. I was looking forward to making a trip from florida over to the Bahamas such as you do coming this February or March 25. Would you be kind enough to point me in some direction as to where you start your Journeys over to the bahamas from. i frequently watch your videos and try to educate myself on your Voyages. Thank You Lou
@LPerti hello Lou And thank you for being a long time. You were off my channel and you had an awesome trip there, captain, a lot of days spent on the water. There's nothing like it.Me and you love the same lifestyle. And as far as boat reps there is 2 in Miami, Crandon Marina Biscainebay and Halover Marina those 2 are the closest to Bimini Bahamas cap
It's like that and everyone knows you, imagine without a mask 😂 you have to use a "boat cover mask"So that they don't recognize the boat 😊..hey,That's the bad thing about changing the engine set up, now you have to look for the right propeller and it's take time.. great video!
Well, I think is about to do some research and get the right prop for the boat... people here comparing the old engine with the new one 4cyl vs 6cyl. for this new engine should be easy to push this boat effortless and translate to less fuel use. Nice video!
Capitan para nosotros fue un placer conocerlo y pura suerte coincidir con usted en Bimini. Usted llegando a Bimini y nosotros saliendo para Fort Lauderdale. Esperó verlo nuevamente. Gracias por sus excelentes videos.
Your boat is heavy even with a bigger engine with more power. Pitch change? You def have a "twin" at the 24 minute mark. Dang Cap, you are a celebrity in Bimini...well deserved. Great looking meal.
@jeffreypinder9398 lol Jeffrey it was funny seeing all this viewers , And also seeing how they have also a crooked pilot house, Thank you for watching captain and see you on the next video😉⚓️👍
Hey capt. I wouldn’t try raising the motor just yet. You definitely don’t wanna pick it up too much especially the type of weather you navigate in. I would first try a three blade 15 1/4 x 17 pitch. And try to keep your cruising RPM at 3700. If you have the opportunity, I would try the 17 and 21 pitch. Keep that rpm at 3700 and your mpg should be closer to 3.
@rudyu2767 awesome info cap. And in tomorrow video you will see how my engine is running on the water cap. And let me know what you think, thanks for your awesome suggestion cap👍
I have a 22 foot walk around with a 06 f225 on it. I was going to get the 200 because of this very thing. I don’t need the extra weight or speed for how I use the boat. When my boat was made the 200 was a v6 now only 4. Good the see the difference.
In Regards to your fuel economy. -The new motor will not be as efficient as your older one because the added cylinders. -Sell the motor and get a four cylinder 200 hp Yamaha or Suzuki. -Add a SHARROW propeller. -Adjust the motor height on the transom so the planning fin is 1/4” or 1/2” higher than the bottom line of the boat. -Buy new RIDE Trim tabs they will reduce the jump bounce on the boat by about 60% and they self level the boat automatically. Pay to play
@JS-sx3bl Great suggestion, captain, but I'm thinking about racing the engine one more bolt and see how that comes out.Because I have seen comments on voters with my same weight Of boat and they get 2.5 to 2.6 And that sounds pretty good to me. So I'll keep trying to see if I can fix this issue.Captain thank you for your awesome suggestion
i went thru this prop / motor change issue myself. I found that having my trim tabs and jack plate and trim adjusted right when combined with the right prop made a big difference in economy. my boat likes a 4 blade with zipwakes in auto and jack plate adjusted to condition on the fly. those zipwakes and trim in auto mode make a big difference. boat runs real flat too. your boat does seem to ride bow high compared to most. might get a better efficency running flatter. finding the right prop takes some experimentation to dial it in.
@@DixieSwampman-ce4bx You are so right, captain.Finding their prop size will be a challenge but needs to be done.Thank you for all your comments.Because it does really help👍👍⚓️
@@OutOnTheReef another thing i have been studying with pilot houses (because i want a steiger) is the setback of the motor from the transom. maybe its just me but steigers, defiance, etc have their outboards all set back well behind the transom by design. Parker and couple others still have their motors set on the transom itself. just looking at the boat/motor along its length. i swear, with smaller boats more noticable, this allows the boat itself to act as lever allowing the bow to drop more, under its own weight, going flat raising the motor up getting more of the boat out of the water on plane. i am an engineer so i just think about odd things like that. not that helps you so much but just throwing out some of my observations thru my research for general discussion.
@DixieSwampman-ce4bx Thank you, captain. I really appreciate your comment and you're right. Put in the engine and the platform. It's more efficient. Due. To the boat has more control and it's like the boat is 2 feet longer while being only 21 feet. And thank you for your awesome comment , captain , it really helps👍⚓️
Hey Captain, that was a awesome Journey video. Also lobster was so easy to catch they all hiding in the same corner. Food was looking really good and also the beer you drink makes me wanna pop a beer too. Getting a whole box tomorrow of beer. Capitán, que tengas una buena noche!!!⚓️😃

Captain, I know you run heavy but you need more pitch. That 4.2L should be able to turn a 15-17 pitch in my opinion. Remember that it's rated 225hp@5500rpm at WOT with a range between 5000-6000rpm. So, the motor should have enough torque to turn a 15P-17P and be at least at 5500rpm WOT. Now., you need to optimize your engine height as high as possible without slipping and make sure the boat runs level without porpoising with the trim tabs and motor trim at zero deg. (not all the way down but in the middle) in flat water. That tells you your center of gravity is correct. I think you should see 2.8-3.0 mpg at around 3700rpm@ 27mph. I'd stay with 3 blades for more efficiency but if center of gravity is off, a 4 blade will give you more stern lift and reduce porpoising and you can mount you engine even higher to retain efficiency. Good luck. Prop clear!
@carlosdelaarena2575 thanks cap. For your knowledge it really helps on making my decision and yes the engine Needs be lifted up.Some, I will definitely take your information.A huge consideration, captain.Thank you for your awesome help. And soon I will show you what I do to fix it. Drive safe cap
I bought a Propulse for my Suzuki DF250, props can get expensive so a prop that can be adjusted to suit was the answer to my situation. Not tweaked it yet but it goes from 14 - 21inch pitch. Good luck Skipper, looking forward to the next instalment.

You are very smart , I am surprised you didn’t do your homework and find out that a Yamaha 200 4 cylinder consumes less fuel than a Yamaha 6 cylinder . Fuel consumption will get better as that engines breaks down more , but you will never get the gph you had on the 200hp . That’s my experience and I’ve been rigging and repowering boats for over 30 years . More hp is great but someone will pay for it 😁 Good luck and don’t give up , it’s only money .
i went to forums and yamaha website reviews and the fuel consumption was like 10% to 15% more not 40% more and i also need to raise the engine 1 more hole cap. in the next video i will show you how the engine is running on the water and please tell me what you think, if it needs to be raise more, the video will be posted on Sunday morning cap, thanks
@@OutOnTheReef you will get a little better fuel economy by raising the motor but are risking the engine cavitating out of the water in rough weather , that boat with the pilot house is bow heavy and stern lite . Also the rough weather you had on the trip to Bimini is not going to give you the best and most accurate fuel consumption average . There are things you can do to the motor to better the mpg but will mess up your Yamaha warranty , unless you can work around it 😉 . And all the engine manufacturers give you the best reviews on their motors based on the lightest hulls , step hulls , etc with a lot less drag than a pilot house or cuddy cabin hulls , boats with towers or t tops , all of that makes a huge difference In fuel consumption. You will figure out a way to get better mpg , I can’t wait to see what you come up with , stay safe out there and God bless you and your family .

Hey Capt! My buddy just bought the Entertia ECO prop for his boat. You can buy a hub kit to fit Yamaha. Not only has his MPG got better, but his performance is faster aswell! Keywest Waterman on utube does a comparison on a 225hp motor, and he changed his aswell. Big difference! My buddy said it'll pay for itself and be saving you in 6months. Check-out Keywests comparison, get the hub-kit, and get one....! Hope this helps you!
Captain, I usually achieve 1.6 mpg and 28mph on my 30' Grady White, with twin Yamaha 300s! So I am sure a better prop is your solution. From my limited experience with props, three blades tend to be more efficient than four; hope this helps. I will wait until the end of this video, to see what you do to correct your issue!

Most the time a 4 blade prop is best for holeshot to get up on plane in the flats. My 3 blade prop on my 300 gets 2,5 mpg at 4700 rpm on my Parker 25 SE. Performance is matched perfect. Full throttle 6100 rpm, boat loaded and empty. Never stay or run full throttle, but it is matched perfect.
@@OutOnTheReef I will get it when I get back to Tierre Verde. I left the island because of Hurricane. I had Admiral C&B Propeller in Tampa get me the right prop. They are experts in selecting what my boat needed.
Captain they have night view check it out it mounts on front of boat and hooks to your Garmin and you can run at night like day time looks just like day light in pitch dark check it out there not to high . And also you need a jack plate it will help you get motor up your dragging motor costing you money and might go with a bigger prop 24 or 25 pitch that little prop if good for getting on plan faster but that's it costing you a lot of money in fule the bigger prop will take little longer to get on plan but will push your boat better promise you .

@francus7227 Thank. You Francus and yes, there's definitely something wrong and I will figure it out. I think I need to raise that engine more to reduce drag and get a better propeller. And I will keep you updated on any new info, captain.
Hey Cap, I think you need a bit more pitch on the prop, based on the RPMs you were getting in rough seas and a loaded boat, I agree I think you were under pitched. The motor certainly was not laboring but I think if you step up to the next pitch you will be fine. I think you will be able to drop RPMs by about 600 and get the same speed you have now. I don't think you will see a big improvement on the 4 blade speed or MPG but I will be super curious to follow you and see what prop you land on
great info cap but what you think about going to a bigger diameter , the one i have now is 14.5 , what you think about increasing the diameter to 15.75 and keeping the 15 pitch , would that be helpful?
@@OutOnTheReef Good question I tried that on my last motor (300 Zuke on a 22' Pioneer) I found adding pitch with same diameter did better for me than adding diameter. I tried a 4 blade as well and it seemed to help me stay on plane at lower speed but overall economy was down compared to 3 blade. I ultimately went from a 19p to a 21p and found I was able to get better MPG and with the 21p I was able to go 39mph at 4100 rpm vs 19p I had to turn 4600-4700 rpm to get the same speed and the mpg went down. Never owned a pilot house so maybe more diameter could be better, but I think pitch and cup on the prop will get you what you are looking for. keep me posted best of luck..

@@OutOnTheReef The good news is I don't think you are too far away from where you need to be. Hopefully, with more pitch or diameter you can get to a place where when you have the boat loaded you can get to the 4000 - 4400 (sweet spot) rpm range and get to a place of 2.2-2.5 mpg. The motor sounds great and it looks like it is running really solid
Captain I run in the PNW a 24’ Northriver OS pilot house, I have a 2008 F225 with a 3 blade and I get 2.5-2.8 at 4,400Rpms and 28mpg. That’s my best cruising situation. I’ll send you prop details when I get home in a bit.

@@OutOnTheReef hey captain sorry I got busy with life but did just remember to get that prop size it’s a 15.25x17 I also wanted to make a correction on my previous post, I meant 28mph not mpg. Hope this helps and keep those videos coming, very interesting stuff.
Hi Capt.... all very interesting! I average 2.0-2.2 mpg at 4300-4400 rpm (300 Yamaha/2520).... I know yours will do much better when you get the prop right... I'm commenting here half way through the video. Maybe I should shut-up and comment after I watch the whole thing! ☺
@andrewfyakim525 Hello , captain and yes , I think I need to also raise my engine up one more hole bolt And what is your diameter in size of your propeller , captain So I can have an idea what you're using especially your boat is heavier and bigger than mine
@@OutOnTheReef Hi Capt..Our prop is the S/S Yamaha Saltwater Series II with 15 X 17 (15" diameter X 17" pitch)... And the 17-T (T- means it has a 4.75 gear-case diameter).... Yes our boat is a bigger and heavier version of the 'Crooked Pilothouse' ☺...., which is why I was hoping you would be getting at least 3.0-3.2 mpg with the new engine....
@andrewfyakim525 lol cap. And thank you for that information. It's really helpful.I am going to call yamaha now , To see what they tell me , I hope I can sort this out soon. But I'll let you know, captain.Thank you for your information And haven't awesome weekend
More blades on a prop are generally less fuel efficient. There is more drag in the water with more blades. More blades = better hole shoot and less blades equal faster top end. Of course this is all assuming the pitch is the same. I run a mercury high five prop which is 5 blades and the blades are smaller in diameter. I wanted the fastest hole shoot and also be able to hold plane at the slowest speed to pull wake boarders at about 18 mph. It was impossible with my previous 3 blade larger diameter prop. So your needs are the opposite of my setup. I think you need to go 3 blade but get the pitch right so you have the best rpm/speed ratio on plane and you should get the best fuel economy. Also, your new engine may be mounted too low which is adding too much drag. That would explain why your fuel economy matches your old engine more at top end......because the transom is higher out of the water. I'm willing to bet that is you biggest issue....engine too low.
@stevesmith5755 captain I think you are 100% correct about the engine being to low, wen I get a chance I will raise it up one more hole Which is the last hole that I have available.Hopefully, that will make a difference. And I will keep your suggestions in Minecraft and they're great info.Thank you for your help and looking up for me

Seems like your bow is high play with your trim tabs if u have any. Try trimming the engine down more so it can put the bow down and the boat can cut through the waves instead of bouncing over them
@eramirez5763 I do have trim tabs and I'm using them. But I think this engine needs to be lifted up one more bolt. So the hydrophole doesn't get cavitation in the water.
@OutOnTheReef it's the sea keeper trim tabs they fit on the stern where normal trim tabs would go , look them up there really are a great product, only been out a few months now ..safe navigation captain
Look at the Yamaha Performance Reports. A Parker 22 cc with F250 on hole #4 with anti vent plate 4” above keel with Yamaha SSII 15.5x17 prop gets 3 mpg at 3500 RPM doing 28mph. A perfect 25 mpg at 6000 RPM doing 49 mph for 2 mpg. 3 blade 17p is likely better prop for your boat. And consider raising the motor to reduce drag. Small boats rarely benefit from 4 blade props unless they need stern lift. I would have tested in intracoastal before wasting all that has to buy at Bimini price. Good luck dialing her in.
@micuraPR you have a great suggestion cap. Raising the engine 1 hole more is very smart ,I will do that, and you think the 15.5 by 17 is a great choice, I will look into that cap thank you.👍
Hi Capt maybe your engine may be lower but i also think you need to give more pitch to your original prop, have fun but remember you have a havier engine and V6.
Running hard at night is asking for a bad time on the water, the last thing you want to do is hit a sea container!. Give your motor some time to loosen up and the fuel burn should get better.
@@OutOnTheReef Get a hundred or so hours on it and see how she goes, a bigger motor will always burn more juice. How many hours did your old motor have on it and why did you get rid of a motor that was working well?. A FLIR camera would be a good idea if you want to run at night. That will show stuff that a radar won’t (think of a big log in the water). Bottom line is your boat your rules. Stay safe!.
You need to raise the engine and get a higher diameter 3 blade. Also I've noticed you do a lot of crossing and the Yamaha v6 wants to be between 5600-6000 rpm at WOT, but i would stay closer to the 5600 range because you would get a lot better cruising rpm. At least with my Yamaha 300 once i go above that 4200rpm range it burns a lot more fuel, so it would be nice to see a 3800-4200rpm crusing at your regular 25-26mph. Definitely keep the pitch at 15. On my 300 I run 15 1/4 by 15 pitch and that's been the best results for me. Id say try a three blade with 15 diameter and keep the 15 pitch.
@@OutOnTheReef Anywhere from 2mpg to 2.6 mattering on load and sea state. Just did a 270nm round trip in southern Caribbean and I burnt a total of 125gallons. (Most of it being at 3800rpm 24-26mph doing 11gph)I also put a manual jack plate on my boat to fine tune the height and that has helped a lot.

Long comment incoming. When you installed, your prop to pad looked to be correct so I don’t think you need to raise your motor. I’d definitely look more into props. Granted, my boat is not a Parker Pilothouse so I have to keep that in mind making this comment. But, that said, my Sportsman Heritage 231 (23 foot CC) weighing roughly 5,000 loaded with gear, people, fuel, etc. matched with the Yamaha F300XSB2 averages right around the 2.5/2.8mpg (4000/4500 rpm) running around 28/29mph. The prop on my motor is the saltwater series 15-1/2 X 17 3 blade. Bumping up power doesn’t immediately mean more fuel consumption as others have indicated. Often times a larger engines has to work less resulting in better fuel economy than a smaller engine working overtime. Prop to pad and prop diameter, blades and pitches are the biggest factors for performance and fuel burn. I might have missed it somewhere but what diameter are those props? Everything I’ve seen says 14 1/4 or 14 1/2 17 pitch seems to be the ticket with the 225.
@jeremykey4563 awesome info cap and my prop now is 14.5 and 15 pitch ,what tou remcomen is a 15.5 and 17 pitch? And I need to raise the engine because the engine Hydrophoyle is under water so it needs to como up some I think
@@OutOnTheReef the 15.5 is what’s on my 300. I think that would be a little too big for the 225. But maybe changing from a 15 pitch to 17 pitch 3 blade would be the money. Maybe there’s someone out there that would let you test run a couple different prop pitches so you don’t keep buying? That 14.5 seems to be perfect from what I’ve seen others talking about.

@edogden2214 Thank you, captain for watching my channel from Boston and the recent.I changed to a bigger engine Was it was lack of power Because my boat waits almost 6000 lbs Fully loaded so the 200 hp This engine was doing too much work
Hi Capt .. Not sure but looks like your trim tabs are all the way down , that creates a huge drag and may be why the bad MPG . Just because is you , I offer you a trade for my yami 200hp .. Pelo a pelo ... LOL

You might have to pick up the fuel bladder I seen one on the marketplace for 400 bucks I don't know how many gallons it was though so you don't run out of fuel
@fishydubsfishing6516 The only problem is the weight capacity. It will really make you waste more fuel by having more weight. So it's not the best convenient thing to do, but is a great option. Thanks cap.
Are you using speed input from your lower unit? I think that’s what I saw from your past video. You should be using your chart plotter gps speed. It’s way more accurate. Did you ever compare your yamaha display speed with your chartplotter?
Actually now that I looked back to the beginning of this video I can see your yamaha display which I think is water preasure speed is 2 to 3 mph faster than your gps chartplotter speed so your really getting worst mpg than what is displayed 🤯. Maybe come up one hole with the engine.
@@Erik-jp7kk Captain , it looks like it's a 1 to 2 mph different from the gps But most of the time is very similar and yes, I think you have a good point, captain.Raising the engine one hole will make a huge difference. How many r p m you think it will make more cap? Is raising the engine one bolt hole
100-150 about there. You should be at a 15.25 x 18 saltwater water ii or so prop. Ken from Propgods got my boat dialed in after the first call. I think you said you’re using the prop from the f200 which is a smaller diameter.
Do the fuel flow transducers have to be calibrated? Attach a 5 gallon external tank. Go run it out and see if your electronics jive with the known 5 gallon amount you burned.
@size-matters It's very accurate captain because I burn five gallons on the trip and I put five gallon jugs and it was exactly the same amount so it is really accurate, Thanks for helping captain you're awesome
Hey Captain I have a question for you. Is there a difference in the electrical system that maybe you have to calibrate it from switching from a 4 cylinder to a 6. Like is there like a reset button so maybe you're getting the miles per gallon gauge thinking it's still a four-cylinder?
@voltron-718 That's a good question, captain. But no, there is no resetting on that portion.Only the fuel and the trim gets reset but the MPG Come straight from the engine data But thank you for helping out, captain.I will keep you updated on the new Improvements cap.

@seahalk1 Yes, captain. If you don't need a v 6 stick to the four cylinders And the 200 Is cheaper to maintain
Due.

Hello Capt. This was the first time I ever got sea sick just watching a video. I don't think I could have been with you on that trip.
sorry about that cap , next video will be more calm i promise cap 😁👍

Captain, I usually achieve 1.6 mpg and 28mph on my 30' Grady White, with twin Yamaha 300s! So I am sure a better prop is your solution. From my limited experience with props, three blades tend to be more efficient than four; hope this helps.

You want to fit seakeeper trim tabs they are fantastic 🎉

Running hard at night is asking for a bad time on the water, the last thing you want to do is hit a sea container!. Give your motor some time to loosen up and the fuel burn should get better.
@@bubbleobill267 Hello, captain. And you think what time it would do better?
@@bubbleobill267 And remember I have a radar on board
@@OutOnTheReef Get a hundred or so hours on it and see how she goes, a bigger motor will always burn more juice. How many hours did your old motor have on it and why did you get rid of a motor that was working well?. A FLIR camera would be a good idea if you want to run at night. That will show stuff that a radar won’t (think of a big log in the water). Bottom line is your boat your rules. Stay safe!.
@bubbleobill267 hello cap. I needed more power since my boat was weighing. Ore then 5500 lbs loaded
@@lukeandrew900 great suggestion cap. And what is your cruising MPG on your 300?
@@lukeandrew900 and what's the size and weight of your boat cap?
@@OutOnTheReef Anywhere from 2mpg to 2.6 mattering on load and sea state. Just did a 270nm round trip in southern Caribbean and I burnt a total of 125gallons. (Most of it being at 3800rpm 24-26mph doing 11gph)I also put a manual jack plate on my boat to fine tune the height and that has helped a lot.
@@lukeandrew900 awesome cap.and what is your engine hp
@@OutOnTheReef it’s a 300hp 2018 Yamaha V6 on a 28 footer center console. My WOT is 44mph at 5600rpm. Not too sure of the weight because it’s a custom refurbished older boat and I never got it weighed.
Call Ken at Prop gods! He’ll get you set up with the proper prop. Maybe get a bigger diameter instead of pitch. He set me up from the start!
@craigtully1709 thanks cap. I will look him up Thank you for the recommendation and also.I'm gonna lift the engine some to see if it will make it better. But I know I have to get a better propeller thanks cap.
@craigtully1709 I looked them up cap. I purchased a pro tech prop in the pass they are great quality 👌
@@OutOnTheReef love you’re videos. Very inspiring to me. Got a lot of cool ideas from you so figured I’d share help on props. Keep up the great work
@craigtully1709 thanks buddy 😉👍⚓️
Make sure you don't need to recalibrate your tach to account for extra cylinders. Also that rough condition is a gas gobbler. Also you looked a little bow high, another gas gobbler. And the engine is not seasoned.
@steverichmond9157 Good point, captain.I will look at that in.I also need to Raise the engine another bolt.So that way , the engine is not too deep in the water that's probably One of the biggest problem.I'll let you know how it comes out in the future , captain , thank you
I thought that too capt so when I got my etec I went down one bolt hole and every time I turn the engine it would have Cavitation Real bad I wouldn’t change your engine height. JT 🎣🇺🇸🐟🐠🐢🌴🛥
@@hookednrolling2009 I am probably thinking about racing at one bolt , captain , what do you think
Wrong.
One time try to make Chinese rice with lobster eggs vegetables ham soy sauce and mushrooms maybe it’s good just take some cooked rice thanks and don’t give up on the engine play with propeller sizes that 4 blade needs less pitch to reach 6000 therefor improving mpg
@@pooh143luv Awesome recipe, captain, I really like it.And yes, I am gonna keep on working on that propeller.I won't stop until I get the right combination.Captain thank you for watching and see you on the next video
Great video very good looking dinner I hope you figure out fuel economy cap
@sssanford608 Thank you , captain and yes , I will work really hard to make this work .Thank you captain and yes.

clearing USA is harder for me sometimes cap
What's happening is that small props turning so fast running rpms up and getting really no where they use them small props for water skiing or tubing to get out hole faster you need a bigger prop to turn slower and scoop more water with bigger ears witch a 24 or 25 would do or even a 26 pitch I mean they put a 23 pitch on a 115 hp most time . And 150hp but a 225 should have at least a 24 or 25 pitch I think it would help you so much if you have a buddy borrow his prop and see what happens .
