  • In this video chronicling my pelvic organ prolapse repair, I describe pain from overdoing it, trying to reduce my use of narcotic pain medication, and struggles with my suprapubic catheter. I also express concerns with not knowing “what’s normal” with pain and sensations, and discuss some things I did to manage my recovery.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am on day 5 post surgery and it really helps to hear that someone else has gone through what I’ve gone through and has recovered. Gives me alot of hope to not give up.

My gosh I know this was a year ago but I feel so bad for everything I went through anyone who says this is nothing is insane and to be honest I feel it should be something that we should be at least a few days in the hospital but I hope you are feeling much more better now that everything is healed

    Hello again, friend,
Unlike you, I didn’t have my uterus removed, so I predict way fewer issues than you have. My three procedures were the repairs of the cystocele and rectocele, plus a ribbon to support my urethra.

Finally someone telling us what we really needed to hear! I'm 4wks out and it still hurts. I stopped taking the Oxycodone two days in ,because I felt so dizzy and sick when I tried to stand up. The leg pains are terrible, and the catheter was a whole other pain. Once I (not the doctor) took the catheter out I couldn't control the peeing. I called the nurse crying because it seemed to be worse! So again thank you. I wish I had found you prior to the sugary. It does help knowing this is not uncommon.

I’m holding onto my “period panties” now that you’ve warned us about the leakage.
I’m ten years post-menopausal, but bought them for the gym.

I’m suggesting that you call doctor and ask for zofran or compazine, take it before you take the narcotic and it will prevent you from feeling nauseous afterwards. That’s my regimen for my patients in the hospital.

Maam surgery is a good option... Or not.. 😢
    I stay in India....kolkata.. 6month postpartum
Facing prblm with cystocele rectocele and uterine prolapse. ... 😢
Surgery decision is a big decision..and it's highly costly for middle class people😢

Question what type of surgery did you have why did you need a catheter? I just have to have a rectocele surgery only so I’m so scared I can’t do a catheter I’m so prone to infections with a catheter

Hi Carla. My understanding is that you’ll have a urethral catheter during any surgery where you are put to sleep. I had a special suprapubic catheter that remained in my bladder for 10 days. I needed to to re-train my urine to push past the SVT tape that was used to fix my stress urinary incontinence issues. You shouldn’t need that for sure. You could ask your doc to put you on a short dose of antibiotics to prevent any UTI from the catheterization.

My doctor has prescribed me a daily dose of 50 mg. of nitrofurantoin to prevent bladder infections. I’m taking 100 mg right now as an added measure while I have the catheter.
