  • Frank Rosolino is one of my favorite trombonists of all time, and this recording has been a huge part of my life for several years.
A trombone player gifted me this CD which had "Frank Rosolino Navy Pool of Mucus... (Huh?) 1968" written on the front.
I've looked everywhere online trying to find another copy of this recording or to find out where it took place, but I haven't found anything.
In this version of The Shadow of Your Smile, Frank uses an octave pedal with his trombone! The high pitched tone throughout this song is what I assume to be a product of the new octave pedal technology.
I hope you enjoy listening to this recording as much as I do!

This was at the Navy School of Music Spring Concert of 1968 by faculty and guests for the students of the school who would be assigned to various military bands around the world after graduation. This was a world class performance. Music arranged and performed by the school faculty with great guest artists Frank Rosolino on trombone and Harvey Phillips on Tuba. I was a student at the school and was sent the the 3rd Army Band at Fort McPherson, Atlanta Georgia and one year later to the 76th Army Band in Worms, Germany.
