- The Scottish government has confirmed it is scrapping its interim and annual targets for cutting greenhouse gases.The Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf has come under intense pressure over the decision which ditches one of his predecessor Nicola Sturgeon’s key climate change pledges. This was the pledge to cut emissions by 75 per cent by 2030.

@@ClimateSinLeadsToDeath I am not of a religious disposition and regard all religions as purely "beliefs", no more factual than beliefs in fairies and ghosts. I am quite happy for anyone to believe what they want but don't tell me what I must believe.
Of course they should be ditched. Why should we have to endure high prices for virtually everything when we contribute to only 1% of emissions and is very debatable if emissions actually make any difference.

The 1st Minister is a disgrace, an absolute embarrassment to Scotland, thank goodness he will be gone soon, just let’s hope Scotland recovers from the too many years of SNP mismanagement.
As the date for these very hard targets approach the dates slip.... Net Zero will never happen. I think heat pumps and the EV manadates will disappear as they are sooooo expensive and will introduce very heavy burdens onto the majority of the voters. Any party picking these up, will get a kicking in the elections as they mean the end of personal mobility for most people and a dreading of the huge fuel bills which will come along with this. Half the houses will never reach the efficiencies needed and most people do not have enough for the Battery replacement costs. (probably more that their current car costs). Detailed costed plan with a timeline needed.... as I am not an emotional fool who believes all of the hype and fear stories.
Look into passive heating and cooling designs. Houses aren't being built in a way that makes them as efficiently as possible. Designs like these have been around for decades. If you have time look into this and contact your MP about this.

Principle over practicality..... the cost of pulling down that number of houses is ...... trillions and unaffordable and undersirable. oh and the result is a disaster for the developed world... while the third world industrialise and emit CO2... uncontrolled. Same with personal transport... are you brave enough to tell people that they will be priced out by huge EV running cost? MP are not stupid and are rolling back on these.... horendous solutions. When my gas boiler gives up the ghost, I will not be buying a heat pump, but will cut off the gas, boil water on my electric kettle to wash the dishes, and buy electric radiators for heating.
I have been advised by family who have them , never to invest in a heat pump.
Likewise electric cars. Won’t be long before we hear of major scandals, exploitation, unintended consequences of buying those, too.
Not enough research before jumping on this bandwagon. I think I might have to buy a horse and live by candlelight.

It is better to have stringent targets that are unachievable than none at all. Improving the energy efficiency of homes is vital for tackling fuel poverty and the health impacts of poorly insulated homes.
Requiring landlords to fit the minimum 300 mm loft insulation and double glazing as standard should be a key part of the housing act which the Scottish government does have control over.
They also have control over public transport increasing the number of electric buses and providing affordable fares so more people are better off in work.
Our buses should be nationalised and provided as an essential service not a profit driven enterprise that sees services decline.
