  • The bose acoustimass set is on market since 1990 and the newest generation hardly difference from the first series
    9 months after i made this video I would never had expected so many views. I reviewed far better speakers but most of them doesn't even get 30% of this video.......I knew bose was popular but never expected that it was so popular....if you need new speakers go to the shop and compare first, you will see that i am wright.

    I have had the AM5 for 30 years. Two things; first they are designed to replace massive speakers that are furniture. Second the AM5 has to be set up correctly; don’t point the base unit into the center of the room. Bose speakers are direct reflection speakers. I have mine in my man cave now. The cubes mounted on stands I built, and the base unit is between a stereo cabinet and a book case. They have amazing sound and clarity throughout the range. You cannot see them, but the sound is everywhere around you. I bought them to replace a set of 901 Bose and was very happy with the choice. I bought an AM7 system from our family room just for the TV. My kids added a Bluetooth receiver so the can play music. Regardless I don’t have the site of 6 ft tall Concert speakers in my rooms.

    The bose am5 has a very particular use case. Use w/in that it works. The manual shd have emphasized the hole of the bass module shd be pointed on the wall. It's a steep learning process for a newbie. For my use, i switch it to direct but pointed the modules in different angles toward the listening position. It worked for me for more than 30yrs. Expensive but can't argue with that.

    Thanks for this video and testing… May I ask what u are using as the music source? Is it analog or digital? I am trying to “undust” my CDs using RCA cables and not HDMI, and I have totally forgotten what I should do working with old school original CDs - the Vynils from infancy they got lost when I moved way back… Your amplifier/receiver is quite the beast!!!

    Actually sound from mid range speakers does reflect off walls, thats why you are supposed to use foam tiles to stop that from happening.

    Hello, can you please tell me how I can delete the music of Bose Lifestyle 48 (Umusik)? I had once had keyboard shortcuts on the BOSE AV48 to do this. But I forgot, maybe you know?
    There is also a keyboard shortcut to organize the BOSE-Umusic after songs have been deleted, you also know the combination of buttons on the BOSE AV48 Media Center
    Greetings and stay HEALTHY

    I have a bose subwoofer from acoustimass 4 and i hook up to my kenwood audio video receiver and it sounds pretty good for its size.The bass is good enough and when i hook up.my acoustic audio bookshelf speakers to the subwoofer output it sounds crystal clear.I run the receiver through a kenwood equalizer.Its good enough for my small room.I use it for movies. mostly .its not for real loud playing though.

  • @nicolaskim93
    @nicolaskim93 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Clearly there is a lack of mid bass in the sound, the fault of cube speakers that have tiny drivers. It seems to me that the subwoofer of the set used without the cubes and in conjunction with bookshelfs of better quality, can even result in a good sound.

      This system is compatible with receivers that output a range of wattage and ohms, it is a simple input/output design. The receiver quality can make a massive difference in how the speakers sound.

  • @donbustoarigato2997
    @donbustoarigato2997 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    You can hear a difference between the two, but it's not as prominent as it should be because of youtube's compression software! So what I hear is the less full sound of the Bose, you hear a moderate expansion of the sound-range on the Canton. But I imagine there is a much GREATER difference in person, because I have heard the Bose live.
    The problem with Bose bass module speakers is that they do have a hole in the mid-bass and little detail up high. The bass module is not even a full range SUB in terms of getting down to 30 hz or below. The bass module is boosted at the mid to upper bass range to exaggerate that region but the satellites cannot really reach low enough to meet the bass module and fill in that region. The satellite speakers have the 2.5 inch tweeters that Bose has used for ages with very little upgrade. Those tweeters are NOT very articulate above 10 Khz, probably stop being relevant at 8 Khz. One reason Bose NEVER publishes its SPECS! I suspect the Ac. Mass II has a frequency response of 50-60 Hz - 12 Khz, less than the full range of a good FM broadcast (30-15Khz)!
    On the positive side, Bose was relevant in the development or the dissemination of the Satellite/SUB tech. that became surround sound for AV receivers.
    Talk about BS advertising! Bose used to have display stores in expensive Malls in the U.S. Where they had a sound, Home Theater room. In that room they had their top end system, BUT, the room was actually, filled with all kinds of extra amplification and room treatments and special acoustical design features that cost about 35,000-50,000 U.S. dollars. So that the DEMO room was ENHANCED beyond the level of the $5000 system Bose was selling you-I've been in those ROOMS and the surround sound was very impressive, indeed. But, as a consequence of this; your Bose system would NEVER sound as good as the showroom system. False advertising, fake showrooms, lol You gotta love American hype and advertising or just plain lying, in this case!

  • @michaelangeloh.5383
    @michaelangeloh.5383 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You shouldn't say "It's not a fair comparison because my speakers are far more expensive.", but look at the build... It's not a fair comparison because they're extremly different designs. - Many of Bose their speakers are designed with strange acoustic tricks for general consumers and spaces, which they are great for. But speakers like those pillars are more "direct" speakers, without trickery to try and make them sound better. - Bose deserves credit for trying to improve sound in most people's places, without being ridiculously expensive and of course large. - But if you want more pure sound, go with more straightforward designs, like those towers. - I have a bunch of Bose 301s, by the way, and they sound pretty great. They just lack low-end, so they need a sub, but yea... - Other than that, I have those some of those medium sized 3-way boxes and also some of those bigger pillars by MB Quart.

    Add an external signal processor and any doubts about the legendary bose will evaporate.Placement and angle of cubes are very important.The nearer the Bose module to a wall the better
    Audiophiles don't necessarily have to 'overspend' to get good sound.Remember the factors that promote good sound.Bose bass is the subtle one that soothes the soul.

    You did a great vid my friend and I do appreciate the time and effort you put in to it, but unfortunately that Boze sub will do absolutely nothing for you sitting in the middle of the room. Its designed to fire into a corner of a wall and be hidden so people don't see it. The bass will then bounce off the wall as a sound resonator and the bass waves will widen by the time they get to your ears and produce much louder and accurate bass combined with the little speakers. Now im not trying to be an ass but your setup will not be a fair comparison unless you use the sub as directed, still a good vid though and thank you for sharing

  • @MultiTman1000
    @MultiTman1000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Part of it is the room you are in. Tile floors and not much soft furniture, glass on left side and no carpet. Of course it's gonna sound tinny in that situation. And your amp is set flat, which for most music sources makes it pretty tinny with any speakers.
    So these are not the best speakers for that room with those settings. but you could cut the treble and boost the bass and it would get better.
    Then put down a throw rug between you and the speakers and it would be better still. All that treble is bouncing off the floor and the walls because they are hard surfaces.

    It's true we blokes can cave in about certain things, I had TDL RTL 2 floor standers not the best but they looked good not the best sounding but I "loved " them. They take up too much space she'd complain and ended up exchanging for the "Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III". Still got them in fact, definitely not the best but here's the corker they sound the best with the original bose speaker wire (yes that crappy black thin stuff).

    Not really sure about your wall-bouncing theory 🤔 In fact it is the high tones that get bounced. I think the reason you didn’t hear it when you turned around your speakers is because the bass got trapped behind and got boosted really loud compared to the high tones. The bass goes right through the wall though.

  • @edwardyanceyjr
    @edwardyanceyjr 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    He has it backwards high frequencies will bounce off walls. That's what causes echos. Bass passes through wall. That's what pisses your neighbors off

    So, just saying here, you have the cantons coupled to the wall, and twice to three times the cone area, with at least the same in box volume. Apples to oranges. Anyway, it’s a Bose, no highs, no lows, just Bose. It’s always leaned to a midrange happy speaker and of course the company is know for lots of reflections. So in summary, I don’t understand the purpose here, and their purpose was for people who liked them, small compact with big sound, not necessarily accurate, but big

    I have the same Bose Acoustimass speakers inherited from my father. This confirms my suspicions of it lacking some bass when there is no equalizer set or was set as a flat EQ. I was about to loose my marbles thinking my AMP was dying, up until I tested JBL Studio speakers.
    TBH with the amped up low-frequency EQ you can drive these Bose to its potential. Not bad if you bought it for $10 second hand. If you are buying something new. There are better brands out there, that has better quality and high fidelity. Similar sounding as in a studio monitoring system and a lot cheaper too. 😎

  • @CharlieReds
    @CharlieReds 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    You're doing it wrong man, you have to put the bass module in a correct possition because it needs to reverb low frequencies, and the speakers have to be in a high place not so close to your ears, that's the logic from a home theater. In my home I have the same bass module but it has 3 speakers internally and the 5 speakers are attached to the walls and believe me, the sound is amazing

    You haven’t a clue, they sound very good for what they are! They are not made to go head to head with floor standers, there’s a market for small speakers and big sound, Why have you got the sub in the middle of the room for? No wonder your only hearing the tops.
    All subs no matter of cost or brand don’t perform very good in the middle of a room.
    I would never buy these retail. I agree with this.

    you know the real sad thing is the new stereo stuff if even cheaper made than the bose. And I mean the higher end stuff too.... No way this new stuff will last like the old vintage stuff.

      Ja klopt het gaat om kroeskarpers de goudvissen kunnen ook paren met de kroeskarpers dan krijg je hebriden en dat willen ze niet omdat kroeskarpers steeds zeldzamer worden.

    So people are listening to this on their crappy computer speakers/headphones, so the sound portion only tells you that the speakers would need different equalizer settings. This test can not be used for quality. You just need to adjust the equalizer to how you like it with the bose speakers. I have them,... they sound much clearer than 99% of speakers you will find.

    Bose provides installer product training specific to all of their direct reflecting speaker systems. Accoustimass is one of the harder ones to tune to a room. So here are a few things I picked up about this set-up.
    Did you notice the rubber feet? They aren't there for shipping purposes. Lay the Passive Sub-woofer down on those feet. With those tile floors it should perform much better, if it doesn't then the sub isn't working right. If that arrangement doesn't suit your taste, the other option standing upright with the Sub-woofer facing a wall at a distance of 4 to 6 inches.I also noticed you seemed daunted by the instructions on setting up the satellite speakers, which is why these professional installers use a set-up mic. When properly arranged, they lose the tinny sound. Also, Bose products of this type have been tuned at the factory using and expecting proper Home Theater EQ and DSP profiles for the space as these units in particular were meant for home theater. But of course that never stopped a salesman from selling them for music purposes I guess.

      The Acoustimass 3 and 5 were made for stereo music listening lol.
      No matter how much you fiddle with them, they ain't gonna sound decent no matter what.
      You don't use calibration microphones for setting up Bose products lol, what are you insane?

      @@ilpatongiYes it's made for music. I got an AM-5 in '89, still rocking today. However, I installed it in a small rectangular library room as mains of a 5.1 system with a B&W sub. It's been working for 25 years now. I had it for almost 35 years but I didn't get the info benefit from the web then. You see, it's pre-internet age.

    you're not using your bose at it's finest performance mate! place the acoustimass on the corner of that room opposite to the right, 3 inches from the front of the acoustimass
    to the wall for hard bass and 6 inches away from the acoustimass to the wall for soft bass. i had that set on 1997. bose products are very well good if you study the manual first and i hope
    this will help.

      Sorry but are you saying that the subwoofer needs to be placed 3 inches from the wall to produce soft base sound, and 6 inches from the wall to produce hard base sound? Please rephrase your sentence.

    • @Deeky76
      @Deeky76 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you for real?!?!? Bose sound crisp and clear?? You need to broaden your horizons. Bose are nasty, build quality is terrible at best, they sound absolutely shit in comparison to other speaker manufacturers and are definitely NOT of hi-fi quality period.
