cats do not act. cats demand to be entertaining in their own way at their own comfort..... I wouldnt want to work with a cat either, dont get me wrong, I have cats who allow me to live here, in my house, with them. but they would not be good actors at all. for instance, not one of them would wear the grapefruit rind helmets I made for them.
"I carried Spiner," said Spot taking a puff, "He didn't have to show any emotions. How hard is that for an actor? Me? I had to act like I loved him! No small feat. And the tuna was stale. Paramount was cheap. Cheap I tell you!"
The kitty doesn't know how much of an honor it is to have been in Star Trek. All Spot wanted was to sit there and think he's better than everyone else.
When I met him, I was having an already screwed-up day and I was clammy and puffy looking, wearing ill-fitting jeans and a sweatshirt...and he was incredibly nice and disarming towards me (and everyone around me). He was quite a gentleman, I thought.
I saw this interview a thousand times, It's one of my favourites, he's hilarious in this one. Brent is someone who is constantly joking about everything, and the interviewer is kind of super serious. He's just trolling the guy during the whole thing, and the interviewer doesn't notice anything. Spiner was just bored. You can't do something serious with that man. The result is that interview. He can appears as mean, but he's not at all. He's a really sweet and funny man.
I've met Spiner twice now. He sure has interesting stories about some of his non-trek costars. If you meet him, ask him what he thinks of Richard Moll(Bull from Night Court). It'll make you laugh.
Oh c'mon! We all loved it when Data started crying to see Spot after the crash. Data might not be Sheldon Cooper's favorite character, but he was mine.
I'm pretty sure Brent was speaking sarcastically. Anybody who thinks he was serious a) doesn't know Brent's personality, and b) needs to get over it. Get upset over important things in this world instead of mundane things like this!
Absolutely! I love cats and don't understand people who hate on cats but Brent did make me laugh here :) I mean COME ON, you can tell he was only kidding when he said that Spot was a bad actor and would not follow directions.
Yeah, it's basically nonstop jokes with most of the Trek panels. This puts me in a very jokey mood and unfortunately has caused some problems, because some people don't realize I'm joking and they take something I said the wrong way. Same thing happened here. He was just kidding around to make the audience laugh.

I imagine the cat sitting around in a retirement home, wearing glasses, smoking a cigarette, and going, "Look at that Spiner bastard bad-mouthing me again..."
He's such a brilliant guy! So, I'm sitting here, watching this, thinking about how he sounds so much like someone I know, and then I realize he sounds exactly like my band director! That makes me love him even more!
Oh this is the first time I've come across this. I'm the girl in the audience who asked Brent this question. He was very entertaining throughout the talk.
Oh, I see! He was talking about the cat that Data had in the show, and he said that that particular cat was not smart (well, okay, he DID say the cat was "stupid"! :-D ). But he also said that he has nothing against (in other, he likes) cats in general. Does my explanation make sense?
I had a orange tabby named Spot as well, the problem was that he had a brother named Stripe, It was unusual because they were identical and I was afraid that they would die because they were identical, they had a less than 50 percent chance of survival because with twin animals you usually lose one or both I was lucky enough to have both cats for three years before they passed away!🥺🐱🐈❤
@bookworm1138 I love 'Generations' funnily enough, but I'm biased. It's the first Trek movie I ever saw at an early age and it made me the Trekkie I am today. I just love the Enterprise crashing scene and the Nexus and the beginning of the movie....I mean...it's not the greatest Trek movie but it certainly isn't the worst. That glory goes to 'V: Final Frontier' and that will never change.
The 'Law & Order' was great, Spiner was a psychotic husband. No doubt he can act. He was on another sci-fi show called 'Threshold', about an alien virus that was transmitted through sound waves. It was actually pretty scary, but didn't last.
I loved that show!! I remember watching it religiously when it was on, such a damn shame it was canceled! I loved Brent Spiner's performance in it as Dr. Nigel Fenway! If you find it, check it out, you won't be disappointed!!👽
he is being funny, not hating on the cat. The cat was the best prop in the show/movies. It made him more "human." Spot was awesome, especially how he kept getting handed off to Worf to watch.
He gets asked about Spot the cat in practically every question and answer session that he does. And he always says the same thing: that the cat was stupid, the cat was a terrible actor, he hated the cat, etc. And he wonders why he has the reputation of hating cats!
I am trying to find any footage of the musical show at Astroworld in Houston where Brent had his first stage job. I have found the old "To Tell the Truth" clip.
I'm sorry to hear that - when did you meet him? When I met him 2 or 3 years ago he was very nice (even though I looked terrible - both for my clothes and for looking like I had a cold - that day, and wasn't on top of my game socially, either). He listened to what I said, responded appropriately, posed for [free] photos with me, joked around playfully...it was great!
That was the episode where the scientist took over data's body, and data said that at his wake, which was the scientist in data's body that was saying it.
@vpin2000 you know, as much as people say that, because Generations was an 'odd-numbered' ST movie, it failed, there were still enough good moments to make it watchable...such as Data's emotion-chip quirks
There were two different cats just in *Phantasms*. Data hands Worf a fully orange cat, then at the end there's a cat with quite a bit of white. This is the point I think Worf killed the original Spot, and borrowing from a sitcom, he brought Data back a similar cat and somehow the android didn't notice. It would also explain how the originally male cat had kittens later on.
In one episode, Data banged Spot's head against his desk by mistake. That's when he's trying to teach him not to jump on his desk. That was in "A Fistful of Datas". "Vamoose, you little varmin" (or whatever that is he's saying) :-)
It was a fan poem that made them put a cat in the tv show so that soon Data to recite it on TV and back then fans went crazy that they actually paid attention to a fans silly poem.
I named my Parakeet Spot. I also named his now wife bird Speck in honor of Data's Spot the cat. The bird can take direction to go back into the cage on command, well actually maybe it would take more than one take... so he lives up to his famous STNG Spot LOL
I love Brent Spiner! He's funny! Some people have no sense of humor. If you want to see him at his best, search out episodes of "Night Court" where he played "Bob Wheeler". There were at least two episodes where "Bob and June Wheeler" appeared as a very depressing couple who constantly had more than there share of bad luck :)

SpitViciouz "I will feed him."

Star Trek: The search for Spot
😆👍
I'd watch it.
Anyone see Gail’s children audio book about this?
I'll remember that as a filmmaker/screenwriter: Never write any action for a cat other than "eats tuna from a can."
The kitty doesn't know how much of an honor it is to have been in Star Trek.
All Spot wanted was to sit there and think he's better than everyone else.
I am still looking for that scene where Riker enters Mister data's quarters and fearfully asks where's spot now
😁🐱🐈
Towelie the Towel Soooo, He was an average cat... 😂😂😂
Spot actually was better than everyone else in the set...
So... spot wanted to be Q?
Cats will not act unless they have their own trailer.

Spot?
Ironically, every cat that played Spot liked Brent even though Brent (still) isn't fond of cats.

I loved that Worf said he will only feed him
spot loves feline supplement #25

He takes this so well. Charismatic and jovial. Most of the other guys appear like they are "put out" to be there.
I liked spot and was glad he was on the show.
My favorite actor!
I saw Brent Spiner on a Law & Order episode yesterday ( Forget whether it was CI or SVU ). He can do defendants on legal shows very well, too.

my cat was named Spot because he was a tiny spot in the alley when I found him

@10000asja A vastly under-appreciated actor and talent.
He's so life-like...
Such a underated actor.
I love how he clarified he didn’t hate all cats, just the cat he was forced to work with.

Its funny, but I saw him at dallas comicon, and he said almost the exact same thing when someone asked about spot... somethings fishy.

Yeah I meant Night Court. oops, thanks for correcting me. Yeah ID4 too. Never watched Law & Order or Warehouse 13
I am glad he insulted spot. It's refreshing to hear an actor insult another with such honesty, instead of pulling punches all the time....lol.
Brent was the programmer of the cat.
Spot is now sitting in an acting-animals retirement home saying to people, "I am big! It's the Alpha Quadrant that got smaller!!"

i never got the Data shouldnt age line since they established Data DOES AGE in Season 7 of TNG!
TNG was filmed between 1987 and 1994, that means the show ended 19 years ago.
Damn.

Hahhahaha love Brent Spiner!
Spot had to be based on Jones the Cat in the first "Alien" movie.
