Disturbed is the band. The lead vocalist is David Draiman. They decided to do this cover song becomes David's grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, asked him to make music that her & her friends could listen to. He was also sick during this performance.
The lead singer is a classically trained singer. Its what gives him his signature sound and how he can go from Down with the sickness to the sound of silence. I always tear up hearing this song. Its as relavent now as when it first came out in the 60s or 70s. Possibly even more relavent now. Disturbed is the band ma'am. David Draiman is the lead singer.
This is one of the greatest cover songs ever done IMO. I never get tired of listening to it and the live version (this one) is actually better than the studio version. I still remember the first time I heard this on the radio, I had to pull my car over and just listen to it. You had a great reaction to this,
Draiman is a master of a number of musical genres. He was born into a family with a long history of being chazzans (Jewish cantors) which allowed him to tap into the spirituality of this song and give us this great performance. You were thinking of the band Jinjer for Pisces. They like Draiman and other good metal bands are all great musicians first and metal artists second.
I'm so happy you reacted to this so quickly. As I said in my recommendation, you wouldn't believe the vocal range he has. It was awesome to see your face and that you just couldn't believe it was the same band/lead singer. 😁
Great reaction, Mia. This song absolutely blew me away when I first heard it. I love how he gets stronger and more gravelly near the end, then his voice gets softer again. Brilliant finish to an already brilliant rendition.
Dave is a classically trained vocalist. My, now wife, invited me to a Disturbed concert for our first date 23 years ago. 🤘 I kissed her that night straight out of a mosh pit. Feed Love! Starve hate.
Draiman. Disturbed! Down With The Sickness! Love that song. Amazing! I used to listen to the Simon and Garfunkel version when I was a kid and it made me cry.😭😭😭Over time I became comfortable with the silence in a noisy world. You're gonna get a little bit of music history from me, if you don't mind. I've got an expansive music library in my head and it won't go away. Sharing is caring. Thank you for posting again, Mia. Always a pleasure!🤘😎🤘
I've seen several reactions to this song but yours is by far my favorite. Welcome to David and Disturbed multi talent. I've just seen the moment when someone fell in love. LOL
Yeah Disturbed is one of my all-time favorite bands, they come together so well but David was operatically trained, and then he has the best grit for when he hits those notes. Check out stricken by Disturbed
You should know that this is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel song. Disturbed is a band, they have a lot of great songs, Inside the fire, Stupify, The Curse, Sons of Plunder, Vengeful one, The Light, Reason to FIght.
I loved this reaction. This is of course a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's song. It's actually the only one of Disturbed's songs I'm familiar with. Prince has done a few covers as well, like "Crimson and Clover", "Creep", and a version of "Motherless Child". I'm from Minnesota. Let's get some Prince. Or not. No pressure.
Thank you for doing this, & your reaction was great. This is one of my favourite songs, & blows the original out of the water. In my opinion, this song sounds best in the car.
I had a very similar reaction the 1st time I heard Disturbed cover of this Simon and Garfunkel's song. This song was on their debut album, the song was recorded in march of 1964 in New York city. That's just a couple of years before I was born, 😂God I'm old, anyway Disturbed just released a new single, a duet with the lead singer of Heart, Ann Wilson a very beautiful ballad you just might want to check out. As always Mia keep making the great videos and good luck.👍❤💖
Definitely agree with listening to it again without pausing. Gotta feel the music move through you. Just goes to show you how diverse they can be. I’m sure you know by now but this was a cover of a much older Simon and Garfunkel version
Loved the reaction! I would hear Disturbed music coming from my sons room and I was expecting screaming. I was pleasantly surprised. Better than the original! He was sick during this performance
Disturbed have recorded a few cover songs - 'Land of confusion' by Genesis... 'Shout' by 'Tears for Fears ... Originally, 'The Sound of Silence' was recorded in 1964 by folk duo Simon & Garfunkel (Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel) ... the song captured the mood of the country in the aftermath of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy as his body was transported from Texas to DC. David Draiman (vocals) of Disturbed is a very talented singer and this track showcased the mellow side of his voice... There are quite a few singer who surprised fans w/ their vocal range... Vocalist Mike Patton contrasted remarkably on the Faith No More tracks like 'Epic'... and the cover song 'Easy' ... Ronnie James Dio had quite a vocal range on songs like 'Temple of the King' (by Rainbow)... 'Heaven and Hell' (by Black Sabbath)... 'Stand up and shout' (by Dio) David Coverdale also showcased his remarkable vocal abilities on songs like - 'Soldier of fortune' (by Deep Purple)... 'Wings of the storm' (by Whitesnake)... 'Shake my tree' (by Coverdale.Page) Former Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate was a top metal vocalist back in the day w/ Queensryche songs like - 'The Lady wore black'... 'Sign of the times' ... 'Lady Jane'...
Let's get some System of a Down!!! Aerials, Toxicity,BYOB , Spiders. They were another good band from that time. Their song Chop Suey has over a billion views.
Oh Sweet Summer Child this is Just A Cover of Simon & Garfunkel ( sound of Silence ) with a different interpretation 😊☀ 😎 However I want to offer you A True Rock Ballet by Pat Benitar ( Promises in the Dark ) 🎶 👍
Great reaction, Mia! I think the word you were trying to pronounce was vio- lins = the instruments. And yes, they are beautiful in this song. Yes, this is the same singer and band as Down With the Sickness, just 20 years later. This is a cover to the original song by Simon and Garfunkel (you should give that a listen too) but Disturbed killed it with this version (killed in a good way of course). He was actually sick when he performed this, which made his voice a little raspier but it worked and added a little more passion and flavor to the vocals. There are quite a few metal band singers that are very versatile and have some insane and impressive vocal ranges like him, Jinjer (Pisces), Corey Taylor/Slipknot, Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam, Layne Staley/Alice in Chains, Bruce Dickinson/Iron Maiden, etc. You’d be surprised!
both versions are good Mia, you may like the video in the studio version. David had a cold believe it or not when he sung this, talk about talent....anyway have an awesome day! Oh and the band is "Disturbed" and the singer is David Draiman..
Great reaction mia. I was wondering if you could react to Immigrant Song by The Mighty Led Zepplin. There catalog is endless. Also anything by Rush. You will get to hear the Top 2 Greatess Drummers of all time. Thank you. Keep Rocking
David Draiman is an incredible singer and I love Disturbed. This cover of the Simon & Garfunkel hit in my opinion is one of the greatest covers ever. But I think you should try a couple of other Disturbed songs that will be more of what you were expecting. All of these are bangers! * Stricken * The Game * 10,000 Fists You'll love them all!
I was also a musician in that time of Simon and Garfunkel...and in that time, there was a war against the establishment...as like today, the war on information, for truth of war , civil rights, human rights, etc......But...Back in that day, you were alone. There was no internet, social media, no pagers, no answering machines, no copy machines, no electric typewriters etc....just A.M. radio, tv with 3-4 fuzzy stations, newspapers, nickel adds...To speak up publicly in those days you paid a price with arrest, being sent to nut farms, etc...If you complained by phone...you had to pay 10 cents a minute, to be put on hold, transferred to 10 different places (The run around) at your expense...Everyone knew of the rotten establishment but kept silent...The only information that could get away with providing information (truth), were Comedians through sarcasm, and musicians through the words of their music...But...any time a person, band, a group had access to masses of people, by popularity...They were considered a threat of having dangerous influence upon masses...Many groups were broken up, plane crashes, overdoses, etc...But the messages they made, were understood by the people, but in silence...ALL bands, groups, comedians, etc...have been bought out, and re-directed to satanic crap, or sex, for contracts...Voice to skull technology has been around for the last 50 years...( but a lot longer than my lifetime of being awake to the knowledge, of man-made gadgetry) ...These songs do dwell in the wells of silence, and like disturbed re-surfaced and enhanced this song in the most powerful way, that is inspiring... yet without the actual meaning. The official video is the most perfect interpretation of that song in that time...
During this show, David Draiman was actually sick. I'm not sure what he had, but I know it caused some nasal congestion and he was still able to belt out this incredible song.
@charles.field.uk_official saw Glastonbury performance this year on TV, I was sold immediately, lyrics like no other and tunes you cannot stop listening to.
Yes, this is the same band that did Down With the Sickness. The singer, David Draiman shocked everyone with his rendition of this older classic song. He stunned us all with his singing ability, and it helped solidify him as one of the greatest singers in Metal ever. The band was there with him, though they obviously didn't play the heavy stuff like most of their music is. If you want a real banger to add to your gym playlist, go With Stupefy, Indestructible, or Stricken.
If the idea of metal bands doing amazing covers of great classics is appealing to you, then you absolutely must check out Bad Wolves tribute to the "The Cranberries" song, 'Zombie'. But before watching it, you really ought to see the original. It's powerful in it's own right, and having seen it will impact your appreciation of the cover even more.. Also, congratulations on making it to a (fairly short) playlist collection I maintain, of what I consider to be THE most awesome music reactions on TH-cam. Your shock, astonishment, and growing realisation of what you were witnessing, was truly a joy to see. Very few reactors make the cut. You just did. And this is the first time I've seen your channel. I definitely want to see some more of your reactions!
Well this is a cover of a Simon and Garfunkle song from the 60s. That's why it doesn't sound like a Disturbed song. Other bands you might want to check out or dig deeper into are... Disturbed is amazing!! Great reaction! David Draiman is crazy talented no matter which style he sings! If you want to hear something else from a band that can do the HARD rock ... and switch it up ... try Halestorm .... I'd suggest listening to "Freak Like Me" then Listening to "Break In" the version featuring Amy Lee from Evanescence .... I seen your reaction to Evanescence so I know you already love Amy's voice
Great reaction, thanks! I'd love to see you react to Geoff Castelucci's cover of this song. It's completely different but just as good. And...I PROMISE you won't be ready for Geoff's 5-octave voice. He has the lowest, silkiest bass voice on the planet. But he also sings the high harmonies in his videos. It's all him. IMHO, he has the best male singing voice out there. Check out his TH-cam channel. That is a rabbit hole I believe you'd enjoy going down.
I was discombobulated one time and ran into a fence because I saw a woman that I haven't seen before and could talk and I was shook . It's going to be okay.
I'm very, VERY, critical when it comes to covers, Mia. Especially when I have an attachment to the original, but this is one of the exeptions, which might possibly even surpass it's inspiration. (Someone in the comments mentioned the non conformist band IDLES, definitely worth a listen).
Distrubed yes he is an amazing vocalist !!!!! but yes Jinjer yo !!! I already sent you a list !!! lol.... oh btw... for us drummers you need to check out Godsmack's Drum Battle live !!!
you might like Violet Orlandi and Ai Mori's cover of Disturbed's Down With the Sickness because Disturbed's Official Channel gave it a thumbs up here on TH-cam.
The smile when you heard that signature grit in his voice was everything 👑
Disturbed is the band. The lead vocalist is David Draiman. They decided to do this cover song becomes David's grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, asked him to make music that her & her friends could listen to. He was also sick during this performance.
Isn't this one of those moments you're glad you started on this journey of musical discovery? Great reaction.👌
Very simple explanation , young lady. A true artist, a true artist, can switch up genres, tempo, and tones, at sheer will.
When you realize David was terribly sick with the flu, and had 102 fever and STILL came out and nailed it
The lead singer is a classically trained singer. Its what gives him his signature sound and how he can go from Down with the sickness to the sound of silence. I always tear up hearing this song. The Great Musician in the World.
Listen to the fucking song for fucks sake
Beautiful discretion
He's a MAN. Sometimes he feels like screaming. Sometimes he wants to sing a love song. And everything in between.
Fuckin well said!
Absolutely ! Amen!
Its a beautiful song about how we talk past each other and we worship the wrong things. Gorgeous
Its a warning to stop talking past each other so lets get back to the basics
that emotional response when you truly hear and feel something so amazing
What's going on is David Draiman being so incredibly talented and versatile.
Most rock bands, however hard they may be, will at some point do a softer rock ballad type song. This is their's.
He’s absolutely amazing. His pipes are unmatched
I'm so happy you reacted to this so quickly. As I said in my recommendation, you wouldn't believe the vocal range he has. It was awesome to see your face and that you just couldn't believe it was the same band/lead singer. 😁

Pantera - Cemetery Gates (full 7 min version w/intro)

Hello beautiful Mia! I love this song. In fact, this is the best cover ever done. Thanks for reacting to it
David Draiman was sick when they did this performance.
I've seen several reactions to this song but yours is by far my favorite. Welcome to David and Disturbed multi talent. I've just seen the moment when someone fell in love. LOL
I was one of the ones who suggested this song and it warms my heart that you tried it out! I hope you liked it! ❤
Thank you so much for reaction to this one ❤

When opera singers turn to metal. Lol. Serj tankien of System of a down also had a theater/opera background.
Full body chills with this performance! 😱
Saw them live last year. They played both this and "Down with the Sickness" in the same set. One of the best bands I've ever seen live.
Watch the official video as well (on your own, if necessary) IMO, the video itself is very well done.
The original by Simon and Garfunkel is touching...but this is MOVING.
I loved this reaction. This is of course a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's song. It's actually the only one of Disturbed's songs I'm familiar with. I’ve always liked this cover more than the original. The dark lyrics hit harder with David singing

Not your typical disturb song, but a beautiful song !!

Well this is a cover of a Simon and Garfunkle song from the 60s. That's why it doesn't sound like a Disturbed song. Other bands you might want to check out or dig deeper into are...
Jinjer
Unleash the Archers
Alien Weaponry
Infected Rain
Five Finger Death Punch
Pantera
Iron Maiden
Slayer
Lacuna Coil
Coal Chamber

Nightwish with Tarja and Marko did a fantastic cover of Phantom of the Opera.

Simon & Garfunkel did the original, please react to that one if you haven't. "Gone Away" done by Five Finger Death Punch and The Offspring are a must. Nice reaction to this classic Mia, the emotions are real. Disturbed is the band's name. If you haven't done "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish I HIGHLY suggest it, it will blow you away. Floor Jansen's voice is out of this world literally.
What gets me still is how sick he was during this performance
Patiently waiting for a reaction to 'Stricken' 🙏
Every good bands can shock you like that. So can Jinjer as you spoke of "Pisces"
This version by Disturbed 8s awesome. Here is a curveball for you. IL Divo, Amazing Grace. Original quartet from about 15yrs ago. Unbelievable
Queens Of The Stone Age - You Think I Ain't Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire
Listen to Disturbed - Land of Confusion. That's the sound you're looking for.
I believe that David Draiman was pretty pissed when he walked out of the stage because they activated autotune while he was singing.
This is a cover. Original song by Simon & Garfunkel is better in my opinion.
Holy shxt!!! You are gorgeous!!!!!🫠 sorry first time seeing you wow you are very beautiful hun 🥵 God bless 🤝✌️
Thats the thing about metal musicians they can play anything especially softer music.
You should do a reaction on Dan Vasc "metal singer performs Amazing Grace"..you won't be disappointed!! Keep up the great reactions Sister 🤙
David Draiman is one of the greatest metal singers in all history of rock.
He had a cold when he sang this 😮 Please also consider reacting to Amazing Grace by Dan Vascular. An other rabbit hole. 🙏🏻
This song/video has over 1 billion views on TH-cam and 1 billion streams
I was discombobulated one time and ran into a fence because I saw a woman that I haven't seen before and could talk and I was shook . It's going to be okay.
It's a band. And that's a cover song. The original Simon and Garfunkel
I'm very, VERY, critical when it comes to covers, Mia. Especially when I have an attachment to the original, but this is one of the exeptions, which might possibly even surpass it's inspiration. (Someone in the comments mentioned the non conformist band IDLES, definitely worth a listen).
Just a added bonus: the lead singer was horribly sick with the flu when he did this on CONAN.
He had the flu when he did this 😊
This not a hard song of theirs but I love this song too
Distrubed yes he is an amazing vocalist !!!!! but yes Jinjer yo !!! I already sent you a list !!! lol.... oh btw... for us drummers you need to check out Godsmack's Drum Battle live !!!
You should listen to Wolf Winters cover of this on The Voice (TV Show) has a real deep voice
You should listen to Static-X push it great band and song.
Yes you definitely need to listen to it again
Yea you're going on a journey!
