Anyway, will this be his new signature model?

It’s amazing seeing the shift Gibson has made over the past year or so. Between the differences in their product around the board, to the content and community interaction (love ya, Mark!). And ya finally snagged Phil! This is definitely where he belongs. I really think we’re hitting another golden age of the big G, and that’s absolutely killer.

More gain would not improve these riffs. They would lose the bounce and twang that makes them rock n roll. That said, I think 'hiding behind gain' is something people keep repeating, but it is only a half truth. Now, you can get away with poor finger strength when using high gain, but some other aspects of playing actually become more difficult. In particular, dampening strings correctly is even more crucial during high gain. Poor dampening technique means every high gain riff is full of unwanted string noise and sympathetic resonance. With a clean tone, poor dampening technique is still noticeable, but way less jarring on the ear.
Long way from Fretted Americana...Reached stardom never taking himself seriously (but with a lot of hard work). Gifted, with a nice personality (turning his ego Phil X thing into a gimmick), can't help but liking the guy ! \m/
Once you spot the piece of skin/fuzz on the A string about 1/2 inch from the nut you can't un-see it. Phil is awesome, great guitar player and IMO he embodies rock . Doesn't take himself too seriously
