This light weight Les Paul Custom weighs just 9.20 lbs. and has a solid mahogany body with a slightly arched top. One-piece mahogany neck with a nice thick profile, a comfortable nut width of just under 1 11/16 inches and a standard Gibson scale length of 24 3/4 inches. Ebony fretboard with 22 original thin frets and inlaid pearl block position markers. The top of the guitar has seven-ply binding, the back of the guitar has five-ply binding, the headstock has five-ply binding, and the fretboard has single white binding. Headstock with inlaid pearl "Gibson" logo and five-piece pearl split-diamond inlay. Two-layer (black on white) truss-rod cover with "Les Paul Custom" engraved in white secured by two screws. Individual Grover Roto-Matic tuners with half-moon metal buttons. The serial number "8 6330" is inked in yellow on the back of the headstock. Three original 'gold-plated' double-black PAF humbucking pickups with outputs of 8.05k, 8.28k, and 7.86k (each with a small rectangular black label "Patent Applied For" on the underside. The black pickup rings on the neck and middle are stamped on the underside "MR 491 / M-69 7". The black pickup ring on the treble pickup is stamped on the underside "MR 490 / M-69 8". Five-layer (black / white / black / white / black) plastic pickguard secured to body by two screws. Four controls (two volume, two tone) on lower treble bout plus three-way selector switch on upper bass bout. Black plastic bell-shaped "Bell" knobs. ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic non-retainer bridge with metal saddles and separate stud tailpiece. All hardware gold-plated. The potentiometers are all stamped: "134 838" (Centralab, September 1958). This totally original example is one of the lightest 'PAF' Les Paul Customs that we have seen. At just 9.20 pounds it is just one ounce heavier than the lightest one we have had (9.10 pounds). We have had eight PAF Customs over the years ranging from 9.10 pounds to 10.70 pounds. This guitar is in excellent plus (8.75) condition. The frets are original and have been dressed. The gold hardware is a little tarnished. There is an area of wear (approximately 4 1/2 x 4 inches) on the back of the body. There are a few other small areas of wear on the sides and a tiny chip on the treble face binding of the headstock. There are a few small marks on the back of the neck and some fine finish checking. This guitar has been lovingly played and is all original. The three PAF's have never had their covers removed and all of the solder joints are original. This is an opportunity to acquire an all original Les Paul Black Beauty at a much lower price than usual. The perfect weight, the perfect neck profile and the incredible bite of the PAF's make this a truly great guitar. Housed in its original Gibson black pebble-grain "black beauty" hardshell case with orange plush lining (8.50).
Phil X is the rare guy that actually impresses other rockstars. He breaks the ice with his antics and then surprises them will extreme talent.
This was probably the best guitar demo i've ever seen
Yeah, Phil X screws around, jokes around...then he plays! Then I go "Holy crap! THIS GUY CAN PLAY MAN!!!!". I love this dude.
Phil X is awesome. When I watch petrucci or someone like that, I get discouraged playing. But when I watch phil he makes me wanna play just because its fun. rock on phil!
For me today Phil X is one of the best rock guitarist, he play everything well with " tube tone " and also he sing very well, amazing.
Its really great that he also plays rhythm and sings.
Guitars are beyond shredding and many youtubers forget this.
Phil X...guaranteed to make your day better.
9 years later in 2020 and I'm watching it again. Phil X Rox!
TH-cam recommends
ahha same man revisting
Rox like da Hard Knox and da Durty Sox.
(Get da reference?)
Is this the one where he does IN THE LIGHT? he shows how to do it right in one of these...
It's 2023!
The campfire would never be boring with Phil around that's for sure!!!! haha
Twenty years ago, I was on a flight from Miami to New York. A guy gets up in first class and starts playing a guitar. It was Phil X. He played "Brutal Planet" and something from The Doors. I think it was "L.A. Woman". Blew us away!
Phil X makes Guitar Reviewing fun. I mean you can't help but laugh and enjoy the video and he actually "plays" the guitars unlike those videos that spend soooo much time going over the data sheets and messing around.
10yrs later and still awesomeness! Freaking love that guy!
Phil does a very good Robert Plant. After those guys go to the big gig in the sky, he can start Ded Zeppelin and do their material. At least I got one question answered: People don't play the middle pickup on these things.
In fairness to Phil, there is another clip of him playing this guitar where he shows the sound of the middle pick-up. It must've got accidentally edited out of this clip or the two clips are part of something bigger that included them both. Rock on Mr. X!
the mid pickup is wired to the bridge pickup. The pickup selector is 1) neck 2) mid + treble 3) treble . Jimmy Page customized his guitar so that he could select more combinations, this model came out later as the JP Custom edition
ironpirites Good Robert Plant. Horrible Ozzy.
Phil is one of those super talented guys you meet at the guitar store that shows everything he knows to everyone and there's some quiet, nerdy kid in the background who watches him, distills what he's doing, takes the juiciest 10% of it and goes out and becomes immensely famous.
This guy is great. Not his playing. His rock-star, dip-stick persona :)
It´s is always a class, man! Phil delivers so much culture! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this fella is awesome and he cracks me up
this dude kills me..
can jam like nobodys business and doesn't seem all full of himself. Just havin fun. Nice!
phil - you laugh at yourself about the delay at the end of the solo, but you are always spot on. great stuff. i always enjoy watching these videos.... keep -em coming...
sometimes i think he looks like Tom Araya
He gets a monster sound out of that low output pickup 😊
Dude you have some mad vocals dude sounds sick asf!
Both Foreigner and the Clash had guitarist who played LPs and were named Mick Jones. Weird huh?
Jim McCarty>>Yardbirds & Jim McCarty>>Detroit Wheels/Cactus. Both played Drums.
If you knew the truth about the music business it is weird beyond belief
Just learnt to play show me the way just by watching Phil. Awesome
This is prob the best Gibson ever made..58' black beauty all the way! Keep rockin Phil!
You my motivation! Respect.)
Dude what you play at the minute 4:30 is so smooth, I heard it in 2017 and still trying to play it but don’t get it right, you’re so amazing bro!
My favorite guitar player alive!
Now thats you, Mr. X!
Great video! I love his way of making a demo.
I got hold of a Black Beauty (from 1999) for a month and these play really great! I even didn't mind the weight that much.
I love what Phil does, I love how he does it, I love how genuine he is, but most of all I love how he reminds me of Sammy Hagar on speed !
Keep rockin' Bro :-)
Jimi played everything, holy shit. How ignorant am I, thought he only used a Stratocaster.
he used Pauls, V's sg's and I belive he used a tele in the studio
He considered his Strats to be his work horses, but from what I know his favorite guitar was his Gibson Flying V custom. You can see him in some pictures with it, he hand painted the body and its quite sick looking.
Guitarists are Gods He recorded the solos in Voodoo Child and Purple Haze on a telecaster, that's for sure.
didn't anyone notice we are talking about Jimi Page not Hendrix
ahaha
this guy made my day!
This guy is incredibly talented!
You have so much fun... youtube and guitar needs this back!
FINALLY!!!! i have been waiting for some Frampton, and it actually happened! that seriously made my day dude.

Awesome guitar and super choice licks bro.
@frettedamericana legends..
man this phil x is bang on
Phil, you are 1 of the greatest players in the World to ever pick up an axe ! I watched all your vids & I tell all my friends about them. I've been playing guitar for 25 years & really enjoy your entertainment. Can you play the 1st & 2nd part solos on Deep Purple's " Knockin at Your Back Door "song ? I've only ever seen 1 person ever play it correct & it was'nt Ritchie or Steve.(not taking anything away from either player) I know you can do it. A huge Fan of Yours, Chuck.
Is there anything this guy can't play?
Seven Nation Army.
The solo to Lollipop by Lil Wayne
You give love a bad name
A bad lick
Phil X looks like a really awesome guy to hang out with!!!

device9 this was the first video I had ever seen of him and that was my initial impression... after watching many more since to current I would have to agree!
Wow, that was excellent.
Dude thing sounds great!
Only except he plays Show me the Way on a Strat!! Not a Les Paul.
+roquefortfiles you must be really great at parties
+Dentark1 I don't think hes being lame or over the top... I appreciate the tidbit.

Man I wish I could Have your Job Phil, You are one lucky sob.
This is EPIC, better than the originals ;)
the man can sing!
love this guy,,,,,,You make me wanna sing bro!!!!
Phil is a blast to watch
Great energy for a long time. Seems like a good
is it weird that i have watched this video like twice a day since it came out?
He needed someone in a 'host' type role to bounce his insane energy off.
It's still great - don't get me wrong - it just coulda been even better, with that inalienable energy of our beloved Mr. X, funnelled to a point, and channelled to greater heights by a seasoned 'TV type' with a deft hand for handling talent.
FUCKIN IMPROVISED THE END OF THE SOLO AND MATCHED THE EFFECTS PERFECTLY
dude, you rock.
a light in the window is a crack in the sky
i had a mate back in the early eighties that had a 1959 one of these(he paid 800 quid in 1982) and a 1960 les paul standard(paid roughly 80 quid in 1968),,we fell out in the late eighties..if he kept them he,d be a millionaire now...unbelievable.
Great thanks for the No more tears!!)
I love ebony. That neck is like 60 years old and looks brand new. The rest of the guitar shows its age a little bit but it's a beauty.
Amazing effort on the Led Zepplin song. His vocal range is exceptional.
This has been awesome!
This guy rules!!!!
This dude is killin the guitar and he's doin the vocals eh not so bad
Dude a guy with THAT much talent is not a loser at all. He's a fucking beast
Phil and Satchel are brothers in arms🤘
thank you, dude
You are funny man ; ) And a hell of a guitar player and singer.
This guy is a living jukebox
just watched a TH-cam about Frampton's guitar. it was given to him by someone early in his career. It was most likely a goldtop. It was not originally a three pickup guitar. cool note on Frampton's the volume pots are coil taps.
LOVE this one! PhilXness!
dude you are awesome!!
Pure legend
i don´t need iTunes any more, i just need Phil X tunes :D
great pipes. tomika!
This guy rocks me out of my chair
Finally!! you play the clash!!
Phil:

jesus....not only do i wish I could play (like that) but now I want to sing too!!
I've met Phil...on several occasions. He's no loser :P and just cause they suck doesn't make him a loser
I dig his love for the instrument and having the open mind to share his shameless way of how he does his thing. Thanks I appreciate it.Hey if ya have any LP Standards and your bored with just one let me know I'm in terrible need of just one LP Standard, not a studio, epi, junior,ya know Standard please let me know.I'm in the process of doing my first CD/DVD yeah I'm a fret board greenhorn alegedl blah blah so anywho,,your a cool cat take care,,.Peace,Love,Guitar Picks & Drum Sticks,,thanks again.
I think I have seen them all!
Peter Frampton actually used a 1955 Fender Stratocaster on the Frampton Comes Alive version "Show Me The Way"; but he used his 1954 Gibson Les Paul Custom on the rest of the album.
Thanks man
The intro to black dog was the sound of the tape machine firing up. Page kept it in because it sounded like the 'guitar army' was firing up.
Crazy good
I'd love to have that thing. Also, I'd love to have your voice. Damn dude. You got pipes.
That guy is good !
