    Nikon, we want N-Log recording internally! You can do it. Just release a firmware update with it. Make Nikon greater without an Atomos Recorder!

      @@souljah9e I mean if you're gonna jump ship and spend nearly 8 thousand on a new Sony or Canon with literally just one lens, why wouldnt you invest that in a Z9? Nikon has to build out their prosumer lineup, but for professionals, the Z9 is an absolute monster. Shooting 4k 120 in 10 bit, and being able to literally shoot 8.3k 12 bit RAW, internally is insaaaane

    Unbelievable that in year 2020 there is no option to record N-log internal. That’s real sad and for many a good reason not to buy a Nikon. So what’s the problem to implement N-Log?

    • @4CardsMan
      @4CardsMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Knowing Nikon, it's probably an engineering issue, such as heat. They are very conservative on features, but rock solid on reliability.

    When internal Nlog?

  • @4CardsMan
    @4CardsMan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The whole thing with N-Log is to reduce highlights and boost shadows. There are custom profiles available that do that just as well and record internally. I use one called J-log. It works well. However, I actually shoot everything with the flat profile with my metering set to matrix highlight, which prevents blowing out highlights. For the foreseeable future, the output will be in rec.709, which is 8-bit (we will only get to rec.2020 after every component in the system, including cameras, monitors, and TV sets, is replaced.) So, shooting in 10-bit is a waste of both time and money for everything except Hollywood-level projects. The biggest time and money sink is post production. The best way to reduce those costs is to shoot in the correct profile at the correct white balance at correct exposure with good lighting and sound. If the flat profile doesn't work for a particular scene, you can use one of the built-in profiles, or create your own using Nikon's free utility. Nikon's default color science right out of the camera is superior to all others and better than anything 95% of us can come up with shooting in Pro Res Raw or N-log and applying LUT's from unknown sources or rolling your own color configuration.

    • @2ndEarth
      @2ndEarth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I thought a huge part of independent filmmaking (not always Hollywood-level) is the concept of molding your image to fit a certain mood appropriate to a scene. Recording reality as is in optimal lighting with a color science engineered by a third party entity hardly fits my needs for this camera, and I would assume other videographers who want something more than family photos and videos.

    • @victellapictures6794
      @victellapictures6794 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree. Picture profiles with internal recording have nothing to compare with N-Log. The so called "J-Log" is a creepy custom profil where everything is pushed to excessive negative values. Absolutely no interest. Keeping the default flat profile is by far good enough Ok Nikon has a stunning color science, but, please, don't mix TH-camr picture profile with ProRes Raw... It's 2 different things that can't be compared...
