    Love this book! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxpCNxqmAkyjN6NPx1fyB7QiEFWyO5mUWL it is simply one-of-a-kind! I really love it, because karah explained all tools required to have the job done, not mentioning the fabulous diy pallets ideas. I'm pretty sure this will be a fresh start in my new endeavour. Amazon was great, they delivered on time. Thank you!

    Very nice. I love it. Ok, I have all the tools. Now I need to find some barky hard wood! The only thing I will probably do it cut the handle down in thickness, such as on an iron skillet so you can get fingers under it and give it dimension. Saw mills are few and far between were I live. It will take some searching to find a private individual such as yourself. But Im sure I can. I thin I'll get 2 slabs. One like yours and the other with bark on both sides.

    Not sure the type of wood I have but I want to stain the wood, then apply Howard - Butcher Block Conditioner (Food grade mineral oil and natual waxes)...will that be safe for use? I am worried I will cut through the wax, into the stain. Or should I leave the stain out? Also want to engrave a design. Do you think I should engrave, then wax? If I stain, I assume the stain will be applied after the engraving and before the wax.

    I'm binge watching woodwork videos as I'm interested in getting into carpentry at home. This was entertaining and what a beautiful board! Just 1 question, I notice you didn't spray water on the board to get the fibres to rise before the final sanding down, does it really make a difference if you do it as I've noticed many people do it and many people don't do it either.

    • @smellygoatacres
      @smellygoatacres 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does make a difference and it doesn't take enough time to not do it.

    Have you ever had any issue with the oak? I know it’s not the best for cutting boards because it’s so porous.

    Awesome work! what is the name of the that tool you used towards the end to bevel/round off all the edges? also how high of a grit do you sand the cutting surface to? when I make cutting boards I go up to 3000 grit but here from other that its unneccesary

    • @Tony-og5up
      @Tony-og5up 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a small router. Called a trim router. 3000 grit on wood is useless.

    Mineral oil? *REALLY??*
    You should have used extra virgin olive oil. The fragrance it emanates and the gorgeous look of olive wood makes me want to take a bite of my cutting board every time I take it out of the cupboard.

    • @stevejunk2346
      @stevejunk2346 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Olive oil and other vegetable oils WILL go rancid with time. Mineral oil is completely stable (won't go rancid) and is food safe.

      Love oak but oak has very open fibers as I’ve been told so food particles will get stuck in them. Does the beeswax stop that from happening? And do you have to constantly reapply?
