1984 Chevrolet K20 Abandoned Farm Truck Makeover! Will it Run?!? Used and abused squarebody!

  • We picked up this 1984 Chevrolet K20 farm pickup when a friend said his neighbor had a pickup sitting in their shed they wanted to part with since it was taking up space. They allegedly parked it just a "few" years ago when the hired man smoked the clutch. Lets see if we can get it running and back on the road in proper form! This K20 pickup is sold! As always, thanks for watching!

All American cars are the same, some have extra steps, some have less steps. Japan had some good cars but even their manufacturers have cons. You'll never find a perfect car and it's quite unfortunate but I still enjoy working on cars, motorcycles, dirt bikes, four wheelers and BMX bikes. I'll work on any vehicle. Pretty much just anything with wheels.

What a nice low rust truck. Truly amazing how some don't hardly rust at all. The reason your clutch pedal wanted to stick to the floor is there might be a clutch assist spring under the dash. It connects to the upper part of your clutch pedal arm and is angled in such a manner that it creates kind of a detent action. As you push down the clutch pedal, the spring will stretch a little but when the pedal reaches about half way down, the spring starts to contract again and pulls the pedal to the floor. When there's resistance against a working pressure plate, it helps assist in disengaging the clutch. If there's no resistance from a pressure plate, the pedal drops to the floor and stays. My old 1972 F250 has one and that spring is pretty hefty. What's really fun is mine has plastic bushings the spring hooks ride on to keep from wearing on the metal where they hook. I needed to replace those bushings. It wasn't hard popping the spring off but boy was it fun trying to stretch it out to get it back in place...

Hey Mortske & Duff. That was a really great informative video. I learn something new every time. My 26 T rat rod is done and licensed. Just waiting for the 4.5 inch wide old school mag wheels and tires for the front to arrive from Summit. I have done probably 500 or more clutches during my career as a heavy equipment mechanic. From semi's to pick ups. You made installing that shifter clamp look easy. I can recall fighting many of those. They almost go then slip off. Here we call Crescent wrenches Mexican speeder wrenches. One for Puddin is an Oklahoma socket set. Square bodies are hot here on the west coast. I have offers to buy my 86 C30 crew cab dually all the time. I bought it new. Just got home from the gym and looked forward to spending time with you and Duff. Thanks. Have a great holiday.

Another exceptional video that would be easy to watch several times. A very comprehensive review of 80s square body trucks, where from and what to look for in a "dry" example; why to keep and look for spares like seats, mirrors, and running light parts; how to sort out a failing clutch, what to address when replacing one from axle to axle. That would be such a cool truck to own, having been through your shop and used to both teach so many viewers but also inspire so many more. Diff fluids, venting and failed pinion seal; replacing a U-joint; gear spacing with the 465; goose neck towing, and refurbishing the tailgate and left rear corner/lights - the list goes on and on. Great job!

I lost a u-joint cap on my 51 international pickup one time while driving it. I was stranded so I replaced it with a 3/4 inch socked out of my tool box to get it back on the rd. I put the new one in after driving it 2 weeks with the socket in it. Being raised poor has its advantages.

Hey, you forgot to grease the seal before you installed it. Loved the body work part, was very cool how you made the bed functionable for the tailgate again. Would love to see more rust repair on these old cars and trucks before they leave you.
Most guys don't have a welder or know how to replace panels but can easily figure out how to use Bondo and sand paper. Maybe offer panel replacement with the sale of some of these rescues? And the cooler ones do the panel replacement anyway?👍

Also get 8 bolt on 16 rims and 8,000 pound truck 6 leaf springs but 25 and all 1 tons 30 or 35 are 11.000 pounds ones with 8 to 10 leafs springs! Those 350 V8 be 2 or 4 bolts mains and 280 to 320 hp with 350 torque! In 4 barrel carb most are but some people got in 2 barrel carb but rare! Those truck had Turbo 400 3 speed Automatic, 700SR 4speed Overdrive Automatic transmission to Manual 3 speed in Coulmn Shifter and but floor shifter are Manual Creeper 4speed Overdrive and Manual Power Shifter 5 speed ! 208 transfer case for 4×4 ! Also those trucks had sticker T for Am/Fm radio antenna on front windshield and some people got steal whip on in left or right fender too option back then any 4 radio decks and West Coast mirrors too! Options back window 2 types also 2 fuel tanks in 35 to 65 gallons ! One fun part was that 3 gauges types for Volts , Oil , Temperature, Brake for Emergency Brake pedal optional have or not also main 3 get red lights or Needle types in Canada but in oil pressure gauge was KPA mathematics for USA only and Canada were P.S.I. I heard because Perrie Trudeau change mathematics in 1979 to 1984 but lots people got both ways when ordering from dealers! Option for last 2 could get was MPH also miles reading for USA truck or Canada in KM/H also KMs reading, fuel gauge for USA or Canada want plus Red brake light on bottom or far left side in small circle to buy choice and bottom could had Yellow Organe Electric Choke Light if carb had one one if menchanial did show up when did cold or hot start! But if Desiel motor 350 V8 have Glow Plug light tell warm up up for for 10 minutes! But if had Red Seat Belts on Bottom left till buckle up buzz sounds shut off Brake on Right side some models had or had choke or Desiel glow plug ! So many options those trucks had was unbelievable and till saw it! Like basic needle gauges and that all!
