1981 Chevrolet Dually! Abandoned for 16 years! C30 Squarebody Service Truck!

  • I found this 1981 Chevrolet 1 ton service truck while scoping out some other cars and just couldn't leave it be! It was retired when the previous owner got out of farming and was a utility truck for Montana Dakota Utilities before he purchased it. Although it's got some battle scars, it's in surprisingly good shape for being 41 years old! Let's see if we can't get this one back on the road! This service truck has been SOLD!!! As always, thanks for watching!

Mortske Body Repair - Good from far, but far from good! A white service truck should be called The Snow Job. Fun vid! Especially enjoyed the Canuckistan remark. 😄 No doubt someone will be upset. FYI - the "istan" part just means "place of" in Persian. Place of the Canucks.

Speaking of frost plugs erm freeze plugs, back in the 70's when I repowered my Mazda B2000 by installing a Chevy Luv engine (yeah people did cool minitruck stuff before Puddin' ever existed). I installed the fuel system, exhaust system and when fixing up the cooling system I noticed the block was cracked. The block cracked right between two freeze plugs - never seen a freeze plug actually do its job -- anyway being a teenager I asked my dad for advice and he pointed out the freeze plugs were so close together their machined bosses actually touched each other, said I should drill and tape holes around the bosses and make a plate, with a neoprene gasket -- which I did drilled and tapped like 20 tiny holes in the block, worked great and never leaked.

Those rings for the dual wheel have the conical lug nut seats on them. The wheels have a flat face on each side where the wheel meets the other wheel or the hub, which allows the wheels to be used in all six possible positions. The ring goes between the face of the outside wheel and the lug nuts. The manual transmission is a SM465, I believe that ‘69 or ‘70 was the last year for the SM420.

I heard the clunk when it hit the pan and thought, oh crap what now! Needless to say it stayed in there and I had to tell my dad about it. He wasn't impressed. They usually put those wheel rings in between the two Rims as a spacer for when you have wide tires to keep your tires from touching tires on a dually will cause hot spots and blow the tires out. But then again I may be wrong.

I have a 99 model with that ring. That’s not a spacer. Mine is on the outside as well, not between the tires. I always assumed it was to keep even pressure all the way around the wheel instead of putting pressure on each individual hole. You’re holding two tires on instead of one. I’m probably wrong though. Keep up the great videos.

When you'd see fleet trucks lined up in a lot there'd be a few older ones -- those were the ones with the big block. I have no doubt that's got a replacement motor - small blocks aren't cut out for the abuse in a service truck like that one. A lot of places went from having trucks with big blocks to mini-trucks with a four banger. Disposable junk nobody cares about.

That Boomhauer reference is gold. Who needs mowerman when you have Boomhauer?!? And gotta love Mojo kicking the box wrench when pulling that front bumper, I hope I can still do that when I'm his age...

Just finished watching, nice revival! Strangest place a tool was lost in was the crankcase of a 70's D7, I didn't lose it , but after the ranch I worked for purchased it, we were going through it, I opened up an inspection cover on the crankcase and, voila! Scored me a 5/8 combo wrench, Proto! Thems was the days!

I'm aware this is an older video but I worked for my local power company for around 15 years as a lineman and I'm not sure if anyone ever commented on it but that hitch is most likely set up for a pintle hook and they're spring loaded. Most all of our trucks had them from the bigger bucket and line trucks down to the smaller 1 tons. Even most of the supervisor's ¾ ton pick-ups had them

She looks and runs good. The watering hole in my hometown was the Hub. It was a lots of fun place for many years, until some drunks plowed into the old girl not once but twice in 2 years. The old girl was no longer fixable, so unfortunately had to be torn down, and replaced by a convince store. Love the sign, and that truck runs great.

Just be glad you're not in Oklahoma brother! Hot is an understatement; I change shirts 3x per day! You need one of those big "BE COOL" water condensers like they have on the football sidelines. It would cool that whole shop plenty. Keep up the great work brother!

Mortske I have a 60’x80’x16’ shop with it spray foamed and two big window air units in it and it will definitely be 20 degrees cooler than it is outside when it’s 100 degrees out side!!! Lots of people are very surprised about how I’m able to keep it so cool during the summer!! Then during the winter I have the in floor heat!! It’s in 6” thick concrete floor!! Absolutely love it!!!
