I always enjoyed the racing tracks toys as a kid, growing up in the 1970'S !!! I am extremely tempted to open a new section of the museum for the race car racing sets !!!! Keep up the fantastic work my brother !!! Your channel continues to inspire me !!!
After I posted this Video i too was inspired to look into modern Slot cars. I did in fact pick up a Scalextric Arc pro Digital set!! Maybe i will make a video on with my very limited knowledge on digital racing. Thanks Johnnie.
I got a TCR set for Christmas '77-'79 thanks to my awesome grandparents. It's a big, heavy box and when I unwrapped them, it was amazing. My grandparents on my mom's side were saints. I had the Speed boost module too. Very rare to find it today. Sure wish I still had it! My old man made me toss out all my tracks when we moved. I'm 55 now and still pissed. I just got 3 sets from the '90s era TCR, including the High banked set to make something special for my grandson. He's going to love it. Cheers!

I usually just use a fiberglass polishing pencil to clean off all contacts and track rails. as well as use a dry lubricant for any axle gears. I did that to one of my car sets last week and it seemed to work a bit "too well". My cars flew like a turbo train,lol.
This was a great find. I had both this and the TCR sets, unfortunately as cool as they are, they never worked as well as my AFX slot cars. The plus to this set was the bodies and some other parts worked with other tyco HO cars. Nice vid, makes me want to get another slotted set!
The track is Tyco and the cars run pretty well with good tires. The white BMW is TCR and is set up for lighting (my car still works). The issue is the common rail is not shared with the two systems. So you can run TCR on the tyco track as long as the car is set up with the pick-ups in a wide position. The key with both of these tracks is clean grippy tires. They need to have enough traction to steer the car from lane to lane.
I got that set, albeit different cars, for Christmas way, way back in the day. What a complete disappointment! Even brand new it didn't work very well. The cars didn't turn tight enough nor have enough grip to be able to use the inside lane of turns. The wheels are always turned one direction or the other so they constantly rub against the walls of the track slowing them down and wearing off the paint. The blocking car just sucked what little voltage there was to run your car and slow it down even more just about assuring your car got stuck between lanes. They constantly got stuck when switching lanes just as like yours though not quite as chronic. Even as I kid I wondered how in the heck they made the commercials where it appeared to work great. Probably one of my first realizations that advertising is full of BS designed to fool people into buying poorly designed products. I'm not surprised that this set is hardly used, neither was mine, more frustration than fun! Went back to my Dad's HO slot car track (Atlas?) that used the old fashioned pins & U clips to connect track sections. I found a huge box of that same style track dumped with a bunch of other stuff on the side of the road. I remember ditching school and riding my 20" bike to the hobby store about 6 miles away to buy more track pins & clips & set up a huge layout. There were a couple of controllers (square, flat, designed to be mounted and had a steering wheel as the speed controller) and the transformer which was great. I discovered if you made the track too long there was too much voltage drop and they'd tend to get stuck at the far end of the track. But if I wired each controller to it's own transformer then it stayed higher and you could run more reliably. It was my first dealings with Ohm's Law without learning it yet...

that red truck was badass. man hearing those sounds brought back memories. I loved these types of toys. I also remember a toy car track with a loop thing, cant remember the name. My uncle was a train guy but I loved these kinds of cars! that red truck was badass. it be sweet if there was a KITT version. side note, Do yo have a working evil Kenivel stunt bike?
it is a different animal. Slot, heavy duty magnets, 1/32 scale. And at the time the TCR was released Scalextric was not widely available in the U.S market. TCR's was competing with 1/64 scale Slot systems such as TYCO Slots and AFX all available at Big Chain stores in the U.S. So it is not a compatible comparison.
TCR has good and bad points - I was never a fan of the way they slammed into the bends, almost impossible to overtake if you made a section of long sweeping bends due to the way the system is designed... but on the plus side long before Scalextric and Carrera Digital was a thing, TCR was the only one you could effectively produce a decent overtaking manoeuvre, and slam it back into the outside lane for the next bend, also the jam car made an interesting extra element to the racing you could not get on other sets until recent times. I think it has some merits, I used to have 4 sets of TCR but sold it off back in the 90's, as I needed the money back then for a new computer, I have had various sets over the years from all sorts of different manufacturers, I started with Matchbox's Powertrack, then moved onto this, then on to other slot car systems, I think I've tried most, but TCR is definitely one of the best systems from back then, I'm still a slot car racer though and have to say I prefer the 1:32 scale due to the level of detail on Scalextric cars especially! which suits me best, different horses for different courses, but on the H0 scale TCR is one of the best at that scale.... The only thing I would say is that the Aurora, Matchbox Powertrack, AFX, and Micro Scalextric cars will work on each others systems, TCR's won't as they are slotless cars, so inherently not as many car options on TCR, but Total Control Racing with 3 cars on the track enabling true overtaking, was the best you could get until more modern digital systems came along.
