I had the TYCO version of this set called “The Big Detour” in 1979 with the Jam Car. I was 11 years old and remembered the set came with a scrub pad that you had to use to clean the track contacts. It was a constant job to maintain! 😖😖

My lil brother and I had a TCR set back in the late 70's. The cars we had were a BMW, and A Porsche with a Chevy Jam Car. Later on, my brother picked up the White Semi like the one in the video and a Chevy Van. I still have the White Semi and parts of the the Porsche and Van. Track and controllers were trashed a, l-o-n-g time ago. ☹️

I know this video is 4 years old, but it happened to pop up in my feed. My dad bought this set for me and my brother for Christmas when we were kids. We were poor and didn't get a lot of toys other than Christmas and birthdays. We used to play with it for hours. We learned to fix them the best we could to keep it running. Funny thing is, I still have it my attic. Never had kids to pass it to, so I kept it all these years. Good memories.

Everything seems to be a good condition, but will definitely clean it all up.. ordered new front and back tires, shoes, other parts for the cars from Slot Car Central in Syracuse.. great place to get old TCR parts! Can't wait to get racing again after all these years!!

I had the set, I think it was called "Big Detour". It had the same basic set-up, but the track had a one lane "Detour" making the regular turn, plus the one right hand, almost offramp looking Detour Lane. The Trucks were the same with different color scheme. The Jam Car, was an Ambulance. As you can imagine, the Jam Car would be in the way, and you could Detour taking the offramp. It was a farther distance, but faster than following the Jam Car. The Commercials were Epic!

Yeah.. what it steal that was. U and the seller probably knows it. And u got them things running good as new lol.. i can tell after u serviced em and they sped up so much.
TCR was the ultimate innovation when it came out with the slotless lane changing.
Just writin this gets me excited on the inside. I always wtd one and ended up getting a new set like this. I had a better track but never got the Trucks like this one u have. That was the real ultimate and u cud always keep upgrading your track.. There was always car and track maintenance to be done but it was well worth it to us kids.
We even held onto this stuff til it was not working, and started to lose parts. Before this a good slot set up we had was Aurora AFX i think lol
    Such good memories

Me and brother had a TCR track back in the early 80's but the box had race cars on it but inside the box were a white rig truck and a blue one. I was highly pissed about that because the package cover had if my memory serves me correctly a Group 5 Martini Porsche and a BMW!!!!

Got one of these for my birthday in '78 or '79. My older (by 15yrs) brother & dad got drunk & destroyed before I even got a chance. But I do remember it being fairly lame.

Got TCR in the late 70's for Christmas, played with it so much the transformer would overheat and cut off the supply to the track.
I can remember the overtaking was rubbish and the outside track was faster than the inside track.

I had a set as a kid then in 2000 I found a mint, unopened box and bought it. The tires had dry rotted. What I did was find some rubber vacuum line hose that was closest the the original diameter. Cut to the proper width but here's the trick, those tires are supposed to have a greater diameter on the outside than the inside. This will make the lane change quicker also. So I put the tire on a drill & drill bit large enough to keep it from slipping then run the drill and use a sand paper on a sanding block on an angle to the rotating tire and after a bit you'll have a tire with a larger outside diameter & smaller inner just like the originals. I think the cars running slower is more realistic & when you let off the trigger they coast.

0:40 yeah. This was the first race car set I had when I was 4. The trucks had a problem losing electric contact when switching lanes.

I think I received a TCR set every Christmas as a kid. TCR was great, but it was a little less challenging considering that they never flew off the track. All you needed to do was hold the switch down the entire time. Tyco was more challenging because you could crash. Either way great video.

Thanks for watching, also With a conventional slot car set if your opponent released his/her trigger that surge of energy would supply your car with a quick dose and launch your car off the track!! Good times.

cool...I'm in UK and have about 3 or 4 of these Idela TCR sets. Most of the track needs a bit of cleaning.. what do you use/how do you clean your tracks. I've taken apart a few of the cars and cleaned and repaired most of them and rplacing tyres, and pickups, but still got a few more to do. Great vid btw.

Odd, the TCR track I had from that era had grey controllers with a black steering wheel instead of a switch to change lanes. You did not steer the car, but turning it to the left or right was the switch.
