    Amazing, history live virtually minute by minute. It's amazing listening to the September 3, 1939 broadcast with the girl from the Athena telling her survival tale and then hearing this report mentioning that attack and the German claims about it.

    BBC Home Service commenced on Friday September 1st 1939 replacing the old BBC National and Regional Programmes. Unlike the National/Regional Programmes which started each day at 10.15am - BBC Home Service would start each day at 7.00am and launched the first ever radio at breakfast time in Britain.

    By January 1940 the British public were becoming bored with the output on the BBC Home Service, even though the station tried its best, a second network was needed, especially for the armed forces who wanted more cheerful shows, so the BBC Forces Programme launched Sunday February 18th 1940 at 11.00am as a proper station. From Sunday June 16th 1940 the station commenced each day at 6.30am

    I can only imagine the uncertainty that has to give way to such fear in Britain at this time. The one chance they ‘hung their hopes on’ was France fighting the Germans. They could slow their advance, take our German soldiers, destroy planes, and tanks. But that didn’t happen. And Britain stood alone.
    I have such admiration for the British people. Churchill, King George VI, and “Carry On” kept them going until the U.S. got in the fight.

      France folded like a pair of deuces. They trained by throwing up their hands. Even Hitler was shocked how easy it was to blow into Paris.

    80 years ago. I'm not optimistic about how the state of the world will look in another 80 on The 4th of September, 2099.

    • @theodorefweitzenbaumsr.4061
      @theodorefweitzenbaumsr.4061 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let me guess.
      You are not optimistic because white people will be a minority and you think that the world will go through moral and cultural degeneration because of it because you think that race and culture are intertwined with each other and certain races live to establish certain cultures. You also hate this because political power and influence won't be exclusively in the hands of white people.
      You are a far-right reactionary who hates racial progression and diversity. You think that the "maintenance of a culture" is possible and that in order to do it we need to remove non-whites from the geographical area to maintain cultural purity. You think that race is tangled with IQ despite evidence saying otherwise and you think that the corrupt oligarchy we live in is impeccable because certain people are better than others like some sort of fascist or elitist plebian.
      You hate the idea of reparations because you dont believe that the disadvantages of the black people caused by generations of institutional oppression can or should be solved with institutional interference.
      You are ignorant on the struggles that disenfranchised minorities went or go through just as long as they're dark skinned and don't have European features but are quick to point out the "genocide" of South African white farmers or some other shit.
      So, is this accurate?

      @@theodorefweitzenbaumsr.4061 Well, I'm not sure how you got the idea of me being "Far-right". I'm not a white supremacist, I don't believe in a "superior race", after all we are all the same, unless you mean ethnicities? Still all Homo Sapiens. You make many bold and absurd assumptions.

      @RWBHere 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The king had a very bad stammer. He had to speak very carefully and deliberately, with those odd pauses and sometimes strange pronunciation, in an effort to overcome it. The speech for this broadcast took a great deal of effort, and careful choice of words, on his part, and no doubt much patience on the part of the recording engineers.
