  • This is the set up video for my new 2023 PSE Omen bow that I ordered through Archery Country in Rogers, MN. I'd traded in my Mathews V3 31 (along with donating the remainder of my other compounds) so that this is now the only compound I own. The rest of my bows are now traditional. After checking timing, I set the key parameters for me of a 29.5" draw length, 85% let-off and installed accessories. I learned that this PSE liked the arrow high relative to the berger hole. I ended up getting great results with the bottom of the shaft running around the top 1/3 of the berger hole, with the rest right at 13/16" out from the riser. I did need to swap one set of spacers on the EZ.220 tuning system. Once I had the bow tuned, I leveled my sight in preparation for sighting in and will install the PSE upgrade kit from Titanium Archery Products once it arrives.

    Big fans here from S Louisiana! That 90% let off wrecks your shoulders if you have to let it down and you lucky if the arrow stays in place.
    Awesome video again bro 😎

    Pinching the d-loop feet before tighten the D-loop is key. It helps hold it solid with no gaps on either foot of the D-loop

    When adjusting your 1st Axis on the black golds there is a small adjusting Allen bolt that will give you more play when you run out instead of having to take apart the entire sight🤘

    I bet u set the letoff to 80%. I shot the Evolve a few years back but i think it has a different grip than that Omen. I struggled with that Evolve & I've had no problem with my Prime's. It's all about the grip. I actually found a riser for my new recurve limbs. I sure do enjoy going light & the Blackeagle arrows I made r probably similar to your wife's setup since the Valkyrie & total arrow weight of our arrows r similar. Hopefully I'll be able to post a video this year with the setup on public land. Take care & there's an abundance of acorns this year in central MN next to all the swamps.🎉

    Welcome back! Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you might consider a few videos going forward, such as how you maneuver with a trad bow in a saddle and tips and tricks that you use to keep from getting busted. Also, maybe the way you choose to shoot your trad bow, whether instinctively or using an aiming method and why. And how that changes when you are shooting from a saddle in the tree. And last, maybe a tutorial on the process you would recommend to those like me that are just at the beginning phases of getting into traditional Bowhunting and the steps you discovered that were most useful in getting started. Great video and thanks sir!

    They redo the center serving right off the hop because it always comes apart or spreads after 200 to 300 shots.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes I've definitely noticed that on some older bows where it'd separate under the loop. So far this setup has been fine. Might redo after the season though especially if I change to a different lighted nock

  • @bbmas1930
    @bbmas1930 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah I found that on my Black Gold Mountain Lite too. Couldnt get enough movement out of it to get the 1st axis correct. I'll have a look to see if I have mounting bolts for the bracket underneath like on yours. My older Elite has issues with nock low tears too. Same deal where the arrow angle gets too extreme angled down through the berger holes. What I found was that my bottom limb was too strong. By backing the bottom limb bolt out by 1/2 turn, my nock low tear cleaned up and at static/rest, was able to have the arrow much closer to square with the string/berger holes.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Garrett, what made you decide on the PSE OMEN? In addition, what made you choose the E2 vs EC2 cams? I am looking at this bow HEAVILY. and I might pull the trigger, but I am looking to hear some more overall experiences from shooters. THANK YOU!

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wanted something that had the ability to have 80lb limbs which weeded out a few options, and something that was high energy but not at too much expense for forgiveness. It seemed like the primary difference with the omen compared to other bows in their lineup with the e2 cam was just the little bit of brace height difference. Everyone I'd talked to who had one said it didn't shoot like a stereotypical speed bow in either draw cycle or grouping. I wasn't able to shoot one but did shoot a levitate and mach34 with the e2 and ec2 cams. I figured the e2 would be easy enough to get used to and it has been. I also really like the hoyt vtm31 and rx7, and the levitate. They hoyts had more of a front-heavy draw cycle while the pse's were steady and held onto the weight a little longer before dropping into the valley. I liked how both stayed pointed straight post-shot reaction even without stabs. The bowtech and mathews kicked sideways, which isn't really an issue as long as it's consistant, and a front rod calms that down. Maybe I'll get a carbon in the future but the extra $600 or so made me hold off. I'm still pretty happy with the decision

    Did you find you like the lower stab mount better? Did you do any testing with other combos?

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Still doing some more testing this spring. The weight mounted lower balances nicer. One thing I did notice with this bow vs the mathews v3 31 I used before it was that having a lot of weight on the side rod didn't shoot as well. On the omen it made my pin float feel "loose". I took the side rod off entirely and actually saw improvement. In theory, having weight in the lower mounting position could cause riser flex to rebound slower on the lower half, contributing to nock travel differences compared to the same weight, in the higher hole, with a downward angle. But that might be so negligible it's not worth noting. In either case I've found that in some instances with trees with a lot of branches, its nice to have a QD mount so I can pull the bow up through the branches easier and quickly pop the stabilizer back on in the tree.

  • @bigblock146
    @bigblock146 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello mate,how did you get the COR mount with the epsilon set up so the launcher blade doesn't hit the riser and shelf?
    I had to cut the hell out of mine (the launcher blade) to even somewhat fit,I hated it and went back to the universal mount.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really the main thing was just setting it really high relative to the berger hole. When I had it lower initially, it was contacting and I looked into finding a different screw for the lower level limiter, but it would have had to be ground down, and then there would be less travel and greater likelihood of contact so it wasn't ideal either.

    • @bigblock146
      @bigblock146 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other solution would be approx 4 to 6mm spacer between the cor plate and riser to offset the rest back far enough that the blade has clearance.
      I like it in theory,but I really dislike having to add extra stuff to make something work as it should
      With the uni mount,it sits pretty well exactly where it needs to and can set it for height without worry

    Garrett are you having good luck with the rip vxs? Im torn between shooting them or stick with the tkos.. i wanted something a little ligher gpi for spot and stalk hunting.. what weight are you shooting?

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Last year I shot the 300 spine with my mathews and now I've switched to the 250. I use the long 50gr HIT inserts from ethics and then the iron will impact collars, and I can shoot broadheads through angled oak planks for testing without damage. If you smash a target frame or similar they'll still break when you try to pull them out but I think this setup is totally sufficient for hunting. Where I will likely end up is around 425-430gr and 315-320fps based on what I've tried so far with this bow with it set at ~75# for deer. That said, the TKOs are awesome as well. I'd switched purely for the same reason you're looking to.

    • @JSANDERS247
      @JSANDERS247 ปีที่แล้ว

      @DIYSportsman Thanks for the reply.. my bow is set at 29.25 pulling 75 but I'm around 305 fps at 430.. I'm shooting the elite omnia. I've slowly dropped the weight of my arrows over the last 4 years.. accuracy for me is a lot more important than seeing how far past the animal I can get the arrow to go.. sometimes shots happen fast ground hunting .

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @texasgator2443 I've been in a similar trend. Plus there's something to be said about being able to fit an arrow through a small window or above/below a horizontal branch and not worry about hitting it as much. Watching my wife get passthroughs with a ~400gr arrow at 40# 25in draw with perfect arrow flight and a razor sharp broadhead has been eye opening.

  • @jlottig
    @jlottig 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've been strongly considering this bow. What are thoughts on performance over a VXR 75lb draw at 31"? Shooting between 575 grn and 600 grn to stay in the 14.5 to 16 percent FOC right now at 268 fps. Looking for a flatter trajectory than what I currently am getting.

    • @DIYSportsman
      @DIYSportsman  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It should definitely give you more performance if that's what you're looking for. Compared to my prior v3 31 at 75#, the omen either allowed me to shoot a 25 grain heavier arrow at the same speed or shoot the same weight arrow around 9fps or so faster. Or shoot the same specs at a lower peak draw. Plus it had the option to go to 80# and totally blow it away. Although they added that higher weight option now too on the new Lift bows. I shot my Omen this year around 72-73# for whitetails.

    • @jlottig
      @jlottig 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the information. I definitely think it would still outperform the lift since they measure at max draw and poundage and PSE measure at 70 lb, 30".
