I mounted the scope in a rush and didn't notice it was backward. Pretty amateur move on my part but it doesn't take away from the review of the rifle. It was an oversight.
I noticed that,..but didn't want to say anything. I knew that Sootch is the man,..and if it is mounted backwards then that is exactly the way he meant to mount it. As long as it's not a 20 MOA mount it shouldn't really make much difference.

Being this is a Ruger and they basically redesigned the wheel with this one. I’m sure they’ve probably ran about 50k rounds at least through it… If it didn’t fail on them, it’s not gonna fail on us… Awesome video! Been waiting for one of my gun guys to review this bad boy! Thanks so much! I’m going to be buying one of these for sure…
@@Outdoors_nomad_life No they all copied DPMS. DPMS was the first to make a small frame 308. There are a couple of the small frame companies that made their small frame 308 rifle compatible with DPMS Gen 2 small frame lowers. To me it looks like the Ruger SFAR upper may fit the DPMS Gen 2 lower. Nonetheless, there are a few companies like Adams Arms, Savage, Mega Arms and now Ruger that made small frame 308 rifles, but DPMS was the first to do it with the Gen 2 rifle. SSI Defense actually used to sell DPMS Gen 2 compatible uppers and lowers, but a few months back their site posted a warning saying they no longer sold them to the public. I guess the big question is does the Ruger SFAR upper fit the DPMS Gen 2 lower? Maybe he should do a video and show us if they fit together. It is very close, because you can look at pictures of the DPMS Gen 2, and the Ruger SFAR, and it looks like they may just line up. The takedown pins seems like they are in the exact same spot. If the SFAR upper fits the Gen 2 lower, that would be great.
Happy to see that Ruger is following the development that POF has used for many years in their .308 rifles. Fantastic systems. Will be interesting to see if Ruger develops a fully ambi model and offers additional calibers.
Yes it's about time a major manufacturer did this. I have the POF Revolution DI and it's a fantastic rifle. So good in fact that I rarely bother with anything else. It's literally a AR 15 that shoots 308. I run a 1-10 lpvo and it's sub MOA with match ammo and will shoot some ball ammo into an inch. I've kinda thought the POF existed in a bubble because until now, nobody has tried to copy it. I'm sure Ruger will sell a ton of these things.
I have been subscribed for a couple of years and I enjoy your reviews and even the bloopers. After watching the review, I am impressed. I am handicapped, and a veteran and find my PSA 10 with a 16 inch barrel a bit heavy. The Ruger in your review looks like the ticket for a good hunting rifle, long range target shooting, and general utility. Thanks for your review and keep up your good work. Long live the Republic, my brother!
As I posted earlier I bought an LWRC REPR .308 and I love it however, I need a dolly or a wheel barrow to move it it's so heavy. Place a scope, rings, bipod etc on it along with the Magpul PRS 2 pound stock and it's only usable for Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Good stuff. I wondered how long it would be before someone would put a .308 on the market that weighed less than a large boat anchor. Excellent job Ruger. Brother Bill would be very pleased.😊
I need to add this handy tool to my tool box, for future readiness the smoke is on the horizon, better to not need it and have it ,then need it and not have it!!
Yeah man I’ve been really looking hard at a .308 rifle and there’s so much confusion around the ar10 and lr308 I’ve been having and really hard time deciding , than I seen the Ruger mpr and loved the specs on it now this popped up on my feed today and I’m like wth now what . I don’t want to be the first to jump on a new product and regret it down the road and not knowing how much R&D goes into a product before it hits the market but one would think with a name like Ruger they are going to do their homework before it goes to market , I’m at odds at the moment . 🤦♂️
You can buy or build the AR 10 on any of the calibers on the WSM or PRC cartridges. KAK industries sell AR 10 guns or uppers in 300 WSM and 450 marlins in AR 10. I have done one of my many AR 10 uppers in 375 WSM to be a match to the 375 H&H mags. Barrels I use are from Pac Nor and the chamber reamers - No & Go gauges come from Pacific tool & gauge. The AR 10 Stoner aren't made any more so only the AR 10 on the LR pattern is made today. AR 10 in 338 WSM - 35 WSM are also great game thumpers !
I was just at the range today where this guy was firing this rifle. Loud! Every time he shot it he would have to manually reject every round. It would not cycle. He was mad as hell. After maybe one magazine he left. That was a good enough review for me.
One thing I would like to make you aware of Ruger has been in the habit of testing their firearms by firing 25,000 rounds through them without cleaning for several decades now. The only one I remember not making the full round count was the original SR9 and the reason it didn't get to 25,000 rounds is because at 21,736 rounds they had a round that wouldn't go off. It had a bad primer in it but because it technically was a misfire, I'll be at caused by bad ammo. They felt that that was good enough. They did redo the test because some people were treating the SR9 a little bit roughly and they found a flaw in it and they did a recall on them. And they tested the recall version out to 25,000 rounds if memory serves me correctly.
I have a Smith & Wesson M&P 10 and I love it. It’s a proven shooter and eats steel and brass ammo. Im looking forward to see if this Ruger stand the test of time I’ll be watching it closely before I pull the trigger on one
Anxious to see how it does in the hands of volume shooters! I had decided long ago that the AR10 platform was my choice for a "can do" anything rifle. The .308 is in my opinion the only choice in that situation. It's got adequate power and range to handle anything on this continent, ammunition is readily available and in common use everywhere, good capacity and the AR platform is a proven quantity. I've owned several over the years and my one complaint was the size/weight/handling penalty. When I put my hands on the Springfield Saint Victor.308 I immediately bought one and thought it was a massive improvement. It became that rifle. At 7.8 pounds it feels smaller and lighter than it is(7.8 lbs w/18" barrel) Can't wait to try this Ruger! Although I want to see how it holds up with Time.
Why use a 308 when you can have an AR 10 in 6.5 WSM or 6.5 PRC - 300 WSM - 7 mm WSM. I have an AR 10 upper in 375 WSM . From KAK industries has the 300 WSM AR 10 rifles and uppers are sold. For building yourself an AR 10 upper in any of the calibers in WSM the WSM bolts are sold from KAK industries as the uppers with larger cartridge port. I use Pac Nor barrels they will CNC machine to your own requirements.
@@ryanshultz275 The only reason I put together an A 10 upper in 308 is the arability of 308 is pretty good and I am a reloaded of all my ammunition. I am converting 6 mm Rem - 7 mm Mauser - 8 mm Mauser - 30-06 brass to 308 by sizing in 308 dies then cut to length and heat treating the casings. when finished the converted casings function flawlessly. Civil war is coming to America to stop this KKK communist democrat communism we see taking over America so having a AR 10 in 308 could prove valuable one day. I am currently have an AR 10 upper in 375 WSM that has 5000-foot pound of energy using 300 grain bullets. As for a hunting rifle in 308 to me it is a worthless cartridge better suited for small deer or pigs. If hunting on the east coast, then the 308 works fine
Thank you for an excellent review. Looks like Ruger knocked it out of the park, with this "Lighter .308 Formula" and made a soon to be "Most Purchased Rifle in American History", next to the .22 cal. Time will tell. *"Long live The Great American Republic. One Nation Under God".*
Looks like a nice rifle. I like Rugers. .308 definitely has a different punch. Personally I prefer the 20rd mags in .308, especially for prone shooting. I'd be interested to hear about durability and performance over 3,000-4,000 rounds.
Hey Sootch my wife and I have been watching your videos for a while now and absolutely love them. She’s originally from Greenville, SC. We call you uncle Sootch lol. Shout out from Tennessee!
May be my first factory made AR platform rifle. Hopefully Ruger offers other calibers in the future. I'm sure 6.5 is in the works. A 7mm-08 would be cool to.
@@keatonjorgensen8793 Great cartridge. I have had one long before the Creedmoor was even a thought. My favorite hunting cartridge. Just wish ammo was more available and affordable.
@@keithwray9942 with my Surefire obcg it’s Awesome. It’s a considerably bigger bolt though. As long as you have 0.125” gap between the gas key and the lower receiver where the buffer tube extension threads into the lower you should be good to go. I’ll tell you what the Surefire obcg is an incredible engineering feat. It shoots beautifully. If want to know about the measurement between gas key and lower i can tell you how to do it. Take the upper off. Take out the bcg from the upper. Push the bcg into the buffer tube like it would move while shooting. When pushed all the way in with the buffer and spring installed you should have enough space between the lower and the gas Key that you can slip 2 quarters between easily. Thanks to SOTAR for that info btw

I guess you don't know AR 10 rifles can be made in the WSM cartridges and even bought in 300 WSM from KAK Industries. I have one of my AR 10 uppers in 375 WSM . TH-cam has videos on 6.5 WSM - 300 WSM - 458 WSM - 475 WSM / 450 Marlin in AR 10 KAK Industries is a great place to buy the AR 10 WSM magnum bolt and an upper receiver with widened cartridge port. I use Pac Nor Barrels for my AR 10 projects with a new AR 10 upper coming in 7mm WSM. To have any of the WSM or PRC cartridges or 450 Marlin done in an AR 10 it can be done by Accuracy Systems in Colorado.
It's interesting to see Ruger leading with a rifle to fill in an unfilled niche. Much lighter than typical 308 AR style rifles, barely heavier than most AR rifles chambered for the intermediate cartridges (223/556 300 blackout and 6.5, etc. ). Hopefully Ruger has done their homework on this one and in spite of the much more powerful cartridge the durability will be very good.
Sure, but neither the Rogue nor it's even pricier ancestor, the revolution, is at the Ruger's anticipated price point (the revolution is pretty expensive). So Patriot Ordinance Factory produced their smaller, lighter .308 chambered AR platform with a whole host of fairly proprietary features first, but at no where near the pricing of the Ruger. While the Rogue is crazy light, it is not offered in multiple barrel lengths, does not have an adjustable gas system, forward assist (a minus for some, a plus for others) or a cold hammer forged barrel like the Ruger - typical shootability and reliability touches found on more expensive rifles. The Ruger SFAR also does something I have not seen in another 308 AR platform, they felt the need to include dual ejectors and an improved ejector to add reliability. From experience I tend to trust Ruger with their designs and testing, but time will tell whether this new rifle demonstrates the reliability one would expect from a thoroughly tested AR type platform rifle. If it demonstrates the reliability of the Ruger AR 556 and many of the other offerings by Ruger, then it will definitely be the first in the affordable, reliable, small and light 7.62x51/308 AR niche, so yes, a previously unfilled niche. Time and honest reviews will tell whether it is a "hit" or a miss.
1:35 Makes its sounds like the AR-10 was derived from the AR-15 as a .308 (7.62x51mm) rifle. It's the other way around. Eugene Stoner made the AR-10 first in .308 to and was entered in the U.S. Army trials to replace the obsolete M1 Garand. Springfield Armory beat out both the AR-10 and the FN FAL to be issued as the M-14 starting in 1957 . At around the same time, the U.S. Army was also looking to replace the M1/M2 Carbines but swapping out the intermediate .30 Carbine round with the better performing .223 (5.56x45mm) round. When Stoner was approached to downsize his AR-10, he didn't want anything to do with that so the task went to Stoner's assistants instead, Jim Sullivan and Bob Fremont. In 1958, they submitted ten AR-15s and one hundred 25-round magazines for U.S. Continental Army Command testing. The tests found that a five to seven man team armed with AR-15s had the same firepower as an 11 man team armed with M14s and soldiers armed with AR-15s could also carry three times more ammunition than those armed with M14s (649 rounds vs. 220 rounds). The AR-15 was found to be three times more reliable than the M14 rifle ... of course, that didn't appear to be the case when the first AR-15s/M16s made their way into the Vietnam War. That was due in large part to DuPont not being able to produce enough IMR 4475 "stick" power propellant. So, high-performance Olin "ball" powder propellent was substituted and this unfortunately resulted in excessive calcium fouling that did not do well in Vietnam's humid, rainy climate. That was eventually identified and fixed along with improvements being made to the magazines (which were originally meant to be one-use throw-aways) leading to the reliability that we know of today.
It looks like the 308 auto rifle I've been waiting for. I like the scar and I also have a few good ar10's but I've always wanted and smaller, lighter platform
@BearPaw youre fine i was wondering the same thing after reading what you said and went down the rabbit hole so thanks for pointing me on the direction.
I want one. I wish they had it in an 18" barrel, as that length supposedly is a more complete powder burn. Moving to Wyoming and am convinced 308 make a much better guide gun round. I believe the 308 sufficient for stopping bear and other big animals, although, outside of hunting, I would only shoot as a very last resort.
I put this and the M&P10 Sport 16" together. Same size, butt on Ruger is Magpul- thinner flat plastic on M&P. Reviews on the Sport are spotty. Some say gas port is bad and Smith and Wesson have to repair. This review is one of the few of the SFAR. I picked the M&P10 Sport because it felt more solid, heavier for that round. I have a Limbsaver, will put it on today. Hope I made the right choice. The price at my store was $1099. The gas port key is stored in the pistol grip. Thanks for this video, now please do one to compare the M&P10 Sport. Other videos of the 18" M&P10 are good, I can't imagine what was done to the Sport to get sour comments because of the gas port.
To all the sweet, well-meaning critics who keep getting their knickers in a twist over the scope mount, unless it has built-in MOA, it is FLAT/NEUTRAL, which means it can mount either way without issue. Assuming the scope is set exactly at his choice of position, mounting it in reverse moves balance forward a bit. I can’t imagine getting choked up over it.
@@georgewhitworth9742 the Revolution more expensive because it's a higher tier rifle, but the Rogue is not much more than the Ruger and twice the quality and has been out for years compared to the new Ruger
It's not surprising to see that someone is finally trying to do what POF did years ago. It's a pound heaver then my POF. But it is a few hundred cheaper. I would be interested to compare them side by side. I think that POFs like most high end ARs are over priced. But they are a fantastic firearm. All in all its great to see an affordable small frame/light weight 308 ar. Now to get one in 6.5 Creedmore and 8.6 blackout!
@@michaelcapen4440 Tried a bunch of stuff factory and handloads. Nothing that is consistently better than 2moa. I've got a few things I'd like to try still but haven't gotten around to it.
Great review! A 13.7 pin a welded lightweight 308 would be awesome. The bolt face walls looks like they split the difference between other ar10/ark bolt face walls. Less robust than the CMMG Mutants but more robust than the AR K (7.62x39) bolt walls from other manufacturers.
As an Arizonan, I have multiple reasons to appreciate Ruger. And nobody makes a better revolver, IMO. But they missed opportunity to greatly improve this platform with a left side forward charging handle. Its light weight makes me want it but not with charging under the optic’s objective lens. Thanks Sootch- you are 1 of the very best ♠️
Great review Sir. I have been thinking about an AR10 rather than a 6arc or 6.5Grendel. This is a breakthrough in my mind. It tips the scale greatly in the AR10 favor. Going to give this a serious look this year.
I bought an LWRC REPR for my .308. I have no complaints except cost and you need a wheel barrow to move it it's so heavy. Incredible accuracy and reliability though. I think Ruger did a smart thing in concentrating on weight and size since the market is flooded with AR-10's and other .308's. It kind of puts Ruger in their own class.
Impressive, I still must wonder how durable this rifle is in the end.. But it indeed would be awesome to see this going to multicaliber direction, if it can handle 308, then it can handle plenty of other calibers too, like 7,62x39 for example.
This looks like a dope rifle. I picked up a saint Victor 308 a week ago and am digging it very much. If I hadn't picked that up, I would have definitely looked into this rifle hands down.
My 71 birthday is coming up very soon. I now know exactly what I want for my birthday for DAMN SURE. I'm tired of the recoil of my 7 mm/ mag. Ruger M-77.
Looks really cool, but I wonder if it will have the same fate as the DPMS GII line. I have a GII Recon and it is a good shooter, but finding parts for it can be difficult. Also, with so many different caliber options, a “light” 308 seems kind of like a solution to a problem that didn’t exist. Hats off to Ruger for putting so much effort into making a slimmer platform! I hope it takes off!!
The weight of most AR-10s is a huge barrier for many to get into them. If you’re carrying it more than you’re shooting it, the weight savings is considerably more important. If you’re just walking out to the range from your home or truck, more weight is probably advantageous.
I love Ruger, however on other YT videos this firearm is having issues cycling with all three settings This is the only issue keeping me from purchasing the Ruger SFAR If there is anyone having these issues, please let me know Same like wise if there is anyone that is NOT having any issues, please let me know Thank You
Here’s a few questions I haven’t seen asked, or answered on the Ruger SFAR: 1. How is the gas block attached? Pinned? Set screw into a barrel dimple? Rocksett? Red Loctite? Or Hopes and Dreams ™️? 2. How is the castle nut attached? Is it torqued on hood? Staked in 1, 2, or 3 places? Red or Blue Loctite? 3. What receiver extension is used? CAR-15/M4? A-5? Or Proprietary?
The return of the battle rifle 😎 Love to see a roughly ar15 sized .308 rifle. I prefer having the power. The way I see things, if I’m having to grab a fighting rifle, things have gone haywire and I want something that would be able to put a hurt on something close or far, unarmored or armored.
I just put one in Layaway. hoping to pick it up next week. I don't think he emphasized enough that how light this thing really feels. And trigger is really nice
Excited price for the rifle and I think it is a great idea. That said I don't think that bolt will hold up. 6.5 Grendel is known for breaking bolts, this is a higher pressure round in a bolt that looks similar thickness on the edges so I figure after several thousand rounds they will start to have issues. We will see. I think it's great just going to need a thicker bolt face
That bolt face thinness is worrying. There is noticeable movement in the hammer and trigger pins as well. You can watch them and the oil move out and in as he checks the trigger pull. I hope I'm wrong but I think they are going to have problems quickly.
That's a pretty sharp looking rifle. I think Ruger makes decent stuff. there have been some concerns with finish in the past, but all in all I think they're improving. I watched their ar-556 line get better and better so I don't know what they're doing over there, but I think they're really doing a lot better in r&d. especially now they have that LC carbine and the 5.7 pistol, PC charger, etc. I would like to see them start putting quality triggers and all their weapons all the time. that's really my only complaint. what they send is standard mil spec and there's nothing wrong with that, but a good quality trigger will always make your groups better in my experience and most people I don't think would mind to spend a little extra for that. pretty cool rifle. I'll buy one.
Nice gun. POF, DPMS G2 and Springfield Saint are all the same as this and have been on the market for years. I have the DPMS G2, and Springfield Saint both in 308.
If you are shooting 200 and under, a Marlin 336 in 30-30 will push a 170gr at 2300+fps with Leverevolution. A standard AR10 in 16" barrel pushes 165gr at around 2400fps. You need a 20" and longer barrel to get the extra FPS behind a 308 round. A 16" barrel will drop you 200fps compared to a 20" - 24" barrel. A 336 lever rifle is lightweight, easy handling, and half the price.
I love this rifle!!! And it's my first AR! And I am a huge fan of Ruger rifles/carbines! I'm just lost for words how much I really like this! If you can get one, get it. I've seen them around central NC anywhere from $900 - $1050, stores and gun shows. The only issue I've had so far is using 200 grain Sellier & Bellot 7.62 x 51 subsonic on gas block 3 setting with no can - it would only fire 1 round and no eject. I figure it's because of the break in period requirements, no can, and/or the wrong gas block setting. It runs 155gr and 168 gr effortlessly! P.S. Ruger, if you ever come out with a 9 to 11 inch barrel 300 blk out or an AR 556 in 6.5 Grendel - I'LL BUY BOTH!!!!
It will be interesting to review the reliability of these rifles after they hit the field in larger quantities and get some rounds through them . That said, great video !
Thank You So Very Much And Greatly, Sir! I've Finally Been Introduced To A Ruger Firearm That Appears To Be An Absolute "Must Have, Must Own" ... Rarely do I get rolled over and under so desperately that I have to go to the Gun Shop, rent and review the new offerings but when I get something as this new Ruger product presented to me in the manner as it was, I'm going to the Gun Shop and Rental Range A.S.A.P. and likely bring one home with me. This has happened so many times that my beloved Bride of Thirty-two years bought us a much larger safe to share for our thirtieth Anniversary. Anyhow, I'll likely end up with one while my beloved Republic is still resembling something close to Freedom that we knew at one time not so long ago, I hope to get photos to you when mine arrives. Be safe, be well and be blessed in all your endeavors... ......~Benny
Looks and sounds nice, but i dont know how well it will hold up over time. It seems like Ruger is straying a long way from what made them known for quality, robust, overly built and nearly indestructible products. The blackhawks SAs, the gp100, the p89, etc. They also dont seem to keep 308 rifles in production for very long.
My rogue is reliable and handles great but only mediocre accuracy. I've tried a few handloads and factory ammos. It will occasionally print a sub moa group but more typical is closer to 2 moa for 5 rounds.
The military should’ve just ordered tens of thousands of SFAR’s as the next M5 and called it a day, they could buy multiple SFAR’s for the price of just one Sig M5 in 6.8.
This rifle looks great, but they took the idea from the POF Rogue, except that the Rogue comes in almost a full pound lighter at 5.9 lbs. Now, the price is $500+, so it depends on if you want that extra pound. POF built the Revolution back in 2017, which has the same weight as the SFAR, very similar BCG, even the same advertised trigger pull, and a suspicious number of similar features. The receiver, BCG, charging handle size, dual extractors, they copied A LOT. I wonder if POF is going to file suit?
I'm curious about felt recoil vs your Aero AR-10 since the Ruger SFAR is about 2 pounds lighter. The difference in size and weight to their BCG's was very noticeable. So with those two differences, it would seem that the Ruger will have more recoil kick. I'm not interested in replies that are theory. If you've actually shot these side by side, then I would love to hear your opinion.
The Ruger SFAR has a moderate recoil. About the same as most 7.62x39mm. A little more than a 5.56mm. I trusted several reviews before I bought mine. I have a repaired broken neck and torque matters. Same for the American Hunter, the brake is great.
AR 10 will soon go down, since AR 15 platform are coming out with the 6 mm arc, 6.5 Grendel and the 6.8spc ballistic. This is just my opinion and this SFAR ALSO LOOKS GOOD AND INTERESTING, A VERY NICE LOOKING AR
That was the first thing I notice and I was genuinely curious as to why.

Good point. Ruger does a great job building durable firearms. Thanks for stopping by Brother!
Ruger copied the POF revolution… lower quality wheel
@@Outdoors_nomad_life thought the pof revolution is piston driven..? And like $3k…
@@frankensteincreations4740 they have a DI version, and they have the rogue model which is cheaper but still more expensive than the ruger.
Great review; looking forward to getting mine on the range
Hey what do you think about that thin material in between lugs like the grendel round, prone to break?
Happy to see that Ruger is following the development that POF has used for many years in their .308 rifles. Fantastic systems. Will be interesting to see if Ruger develops a fully ambi model and offers additional calibers.
Use your abbreviations carefully. Plenty of fish is taken.
@@stevenlewis6781 I absolutely agree.
And at 1/2 the price 😅
@@joquin4618 It just remains to be seen if the Ruger is as accurate and you accept that it is not ambidextrous
Large boat anchor! Lol.
How long? POF did it (infinitely better), 5 years ago.
I concur! It’s a very comfortable light weight .308 I must add
Mr ruger would hate this, he thought civilians shouldn’t own “assault rifles”
Pof rogue is 5.6 pounds and been out for yrs! Also in 308
I need to add this handy tool to my tool box, for future readiness the smoke is on the horizon, better to not need it and have it ,then need it and not have it!!
Very cool concept. As soon as I saw the SFAR was coming out I was interested. I appreciate that Ruger is trying to keep up. Thanks for sharing!

It took me FOREVER to choose between the AR-10 & LR-308 platform as my next build....now Ruger brings this to the table!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Ditto. I tell myself stop buying guns. Evidently Ruger knows my weakness... I figure I 'll end up with one eventually.
I'm a early Vietnam vet not a fan of 223 for fighting. Always went for a 308 capable of shooting through stuff.
Very impressive rifle. Will have to really look closely at this one. Thank you for the review.
Thanks for watching Brett!
I bought one sight unseen. It wasn't a mistake.
Very nice. Reminds me of the POF revolution
I just sold my Mini-14 and 92FS to purchase the SFAR. This gun will be my workhorse.
Man I'd love to grab this as my first .308 rifle. Love the power the round seems to have. That rifle was boomin!

Why use a 308 when you can have an AR 10 in 6.5 WSM or 6.5 PRC - 300 WSM - 7 mm WSM.
I have an AR 10 upper in 375 WSM .
From KAK industries has the 300 WSM AR 10 rifles and uppers are sold.

The 16" SFAR should have 1:7" twist instead of 1:10".
Would be better for long heavy subsonic bullets.
Not many people would want one for sub-sonic shooting. 1:10 does all factory loads. It works for 175 grain loads.

U can use that scope mount in that position if your scope has to be closer to your eye. It can also help help you grab + charge the BCG.
The gas key is exactly the same as my Surefire obcg setup which is pretty cool to see. Give them the extra distance needed to put 308 in small frame
What’s your thoughts on a single bolt holding the gas key?
@@keithwray9942 with my Surefire obcg it’s
Awesome.
When pushed all the way in with the buffer and spring installed you should have enough space between the lower and the gas
Key that you can slip 2 quarters between easily.
Thanks to SOTAR for that info btw

It's interesting to see Ruger leading with a rifle to fill in an unfilled niche. Much lighter than typical 308 AR style rifles, barely heavier than most AR rifles chambered for the intermediate cartridges (223/556 300 blackout and 6.5, etc. ). Hopefully Ruger has done their homework on this one and in spite of the much more powerful cartridge the durability will be very good.
The POF Revolution did it first several years ago. The Ruger is following their lead at hopefully a lower price point.
Unfilled? Ever heard of Pof rogue?
@@ULFISHGETTER that’s the rifle I was comparing it to in my head
Add DPMS with their G2 rifles that came out years ago
Yeah….that bolt. I want to see how it holds up. Dual extractors is great though
Just zeroed in my 2 new SFAR. Groups 1 MOA at 200 yards, low recoil, also weighs 18 oz less than a SW MP 10 . Price is half of some older AR 10s

Would like to see a long term review of this rifle, just wondering if all the weight shaving will affect durability
@BearPaw 😂 steel expert I see.. good thing they have the best customer service then huh? lol
@BearPaw its a cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel. The carbon composition is negligible at that point whats more important is heat treatment.
@BearPaw youre fine i was wondering the same thing after reading what you said and went down the rabbit hole so thanks for pointing me on the direction.
We shot 1000 meters in the corps in the 80’s all the time, and it is very effective at that range, if you know your weapon. Semper Fi!!
Just buy the 20", and learn to love it.
Definitely checking it out! Another great review! Thanks for your input it really helped me to decide!

Have you ever carried a standard AR-10 for any length of time? Believe me, weight matters.
Yes I have; 20” 308 PA-10
A light 308 is a great idea and it’s a problem that existed for years
The weight of most AR-10s is a huge barrier for many to get into them.
If you’re carrying it more than you’re shooting it, the weight savings is considerably more important. If you’re just walking out to the range from your home or truck, more weight is probably advantageous.
@@bdschmid2010 I have a 20" AR-10 too and it's a heavy mofo. Love the idea of something I'd actually carry farther than from my car to the range.

Here’s a few questions I haven’t seen asked, or answered on the Ruger SFAR:

Yes because Ruger is well known for weak firearms that don't hold up.
It's not made of the same material.
Just picked one of these up with a 20 inch barrel for 1050$…❤it
That's a pretty sharp looking rifle.
The SFAR has the 452 Elite trigger. It is great.

What a Beauty of a Rifle The Recoil Looks Very Flat in your Hands … Fantastic Demonstration. Bipod Excetional …
A 336 lever rifle is lightweight, easy handling, and half the price.
you really trying to compare a lever to a Ar.. lol
or you could just get an ar10 with a 20” barrel instead of wasting money on a lever gun
Yeah but good luck finding 30-30, it's so damn expensive too for a round that's basically 7.62x39 in performance.
@@themosinguy6508 whooaa...we all agree its a terrible comparison, but a lever rifle has it's place in this world, and I would not call it a waste.
@@brentharrington9235 im talking about it being a waste in the context of the conversation, although i do believe lever rifles are amazing rifles
Buy a Ruger Elite lower and add a BCM 11.5" upper for the BO.

Adjustable gas blocks should be standard now... dont understand why more companies dont have it.
Why add a failure point when you don't have to?
Great video as always.
Purchased the 20" version.
4" more and is a super light beast. Waiting on my can, then Hogs beware.

Been watching you for years, Thank You
How do you feel it stacks up to the POF rogue? Some people love them and others hate them but they seem to be great overall
Thanks 4 the video. I'm a big RUGER fan
