When I first got my hands on the Ruger SFAR, I thought it was an AR15, but to my surprise, it was chambered in .308, but how?
It was small and so lightweight there was no way this is a .308 rifle.
After my initial shock, I immediately thought, “oh yeah, this thing is going to suck to shoot because of how lightweight and small it was.
Let me tell you; I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Colion, I love you and hate you at the same time 😂. Damn it, I watched this video 3 times and I couldn’t go to sleep for 2 days straight. The joy I saw coming from you shooting this damn rifle made me insanely impulsive. I drove to TP Outdoors and asked them if they had the SFAR in stock. They only had the 20” so I justified to myself to just leave. I was like Yeah, I escaped that one. Went back couple of days later to get some Drake wool socks and happened to walk back to the gun counter and Mark screams, “hey Joe, we got a 16” in this morning”. Let me see it, I bet I won’t like it. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew I’d F up. That sucker is EVERYTHING YOU SAID IT IS. It’s light, trigger is amazing out of the box and I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t an AR15. Price tag was $1,099.00. Owner said give me $1,000 and it’s yours. I drove straight to the house and dug into my hidden stash (from the wife) and pulled out the money. Headed straight to the store and walked out with it. I’ll be divorced by this weekend if she finds it. Just got back from shooting it and Holy Crap is this thing unbelievable. Guys, if you can afford to spend the money go get one. I have no idea how they put this together and tweaked the components but this gun shoots like my DDM4 V7Pro. The only thing that hurts about this gun is checking out at the register when you purchase the ammo. The ballistic tip ammo is almost $60. Anyone know where to get a deal on .308 ammo? I need to get some because once you shoot this thing you don’t want to stop.

POF Rouge is more expensive than $1200, but I think it is the lightest AR .308. The POF Revolution was the first gun in this AR .308 format, 6.8lbs for a DI version, and 7.3lbs for a PD version. This Ruger SFAR looks promising, hopefully it's made of durable materials like the POF's are. The Ruger is certainly in a more affordable price range, so it will be interesting to see how this gun does in the long-term.

    • @ForceMultiplier

The 16.1" SFAR is also 6.8lbs. POF is a legit platform too. I went with the SFAR, personally. Trying it out to 780 yards this weekend. We'll see if I can get some miracles to happen. :-)

I totally agree with everything you just posted.
In my opinion the POF is one of the most innovative companies out there building ARs, even though they are expensive, they are top of the line.
I wish that I had gotten it rather than the Sig Sauer P716. I would still love to have one but the Ruger, as long as the quality is there at a much lower price range will be a fabulous option for people like me on an extremely low budget.

@@kimdearrington258 I looked at the 716, particularly because of the price, and recommendations from a couple of friends that own them. I was set on buying 716, but when I went to the gun store, they also had the Revolution PD. I didn't know much about the POF, but comparing the two, handling them, I was leaning POF. I left the store without either, did some homework that night, and went back next day to get the POF. They offered me 5% off... Still $1000 over the 716, so I'd say I really liked the gun. It shoots great, 335rds though it so far. The brake is obvious to people on either side of me, but it's very effective in the mitigation of recoil. If I could not afford the POF, I'd like the 716 just fine. The SFAR wasn't available at that time, it would be worthy of checking out. I think it's cool that Ruger built this gun, and made it affordable to many. I wonder what the bolt is made of... Hell, I wonder the same about the POF. The wall around the lugs is pretty thin, but they have been around for awhile. Regular AR-10 bolts are beefy in comparison to POF, I really want to get a look inside one of these Rugers.

I've always been a fan of the 308, because it's a more versatile round, and there's whole lot of 308 out there. When H&K first introduced the model 91 myself and my partner went down to a gun shop in the city of Carson in the LA metro area and purchased consecutive serial numbers. I felt that it was by far the best bang for buck at the time, but it did have one issue, it's weight the rifle weighed in at 9.3lbs unloaded and at first it didn't seem that bad, how ever after taking a little 20k walk with a pack, and up and down hills and through the brush it was like it magically increased to a 40lbs weapon ( also my partner was a Marine Corp reservist and showed me just out of shape I was) other than the weight I loved that rifle, even the factory iron sights were spot on up to 400m, and with the bigger bullet what you aimed at it hit. One of the biggest things about the AR-15 that I didn't like was the lack of penetration and the fact if you were shooting through brush the 223 would hit a small branch or some leaves and who knew were that round went. Also if you were in situation where you had a standard vehicle ( car, p/u, van ) the 223 would take 3 to 4 rounds in the same spot to penetrate and even that you would be basically shrapnel and it be the 6th or 7th round before it would be a full bullet making it through.
However with the 308, boom that was it through the windshield, through the bad guy, through the seat front and back seats and into the trunk, and depending on the type of vehicle it could go all the way through.
Now I have to admit that the tech has changed a lot since the early 80's in regards to the different weapons, the ammo and the different accessories, have brought about a lot of changes over the years and the AR-15 does have a lot of good points ( but people don't remember or realize that the 223 was a round ment to wound not kill because of the Roe's and thinking of the great brain's in the crystal palace) in my opinion the 308 or as it's also known as the 7.62 x 51 is a far more useful round. And now a 308 that's light and balanced and affordable that sounds like they hit the trifecta. Besides this guy is having way to much fun with that firearm, like a kid that got just what he wanted for Christmas.

There should be a 2.25, 2.5, 2.75 setting on their agb. 2, 3 is course for the range of 308 cartridges. 308 is a wide variety cartridge. 2 MOA is acceptable for a 16in AR308. Go research 16in 308 barrel harmonics. 16 is a very short distance to get high precision. 2MOA is good 👍. I suggest people wait for gen 2. I'll be getting rifle length gas 20in.

ArmaLite developed a smaller frame AR-10 called the AR-10A in 1959, which was transferred to Colt with the sale of the Stoner patents. Colt began tooling up to produce the AR-10A, but multiple foreign armies were ready to start placing orders for AR-15s, so Colt's promoter for the ArmaLite rifles wired them a message to stop tooling for the AR-10A and start tooling for the AR-15 instead. Rest is history.

@@LRRPFco52 Yeah, I remember about that. But what I was referring to was today's production practices. I still have the Armalite AR10T that I got back in the 90's, it's still my most common favorite version because they designed both receiver halves as efficient forgings instead of from milled extrusions which tends to be bulkier from leaving a lot of metal to save machining time.

      @LRRPFco52 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Oldhogleg Totally different ArmaLite companies. The original ArmaLite was a division of Fairchild Aerospace in Hollywood CA. Their name got acquired by Elisco Tool & Machine long after the Stoner patents were bought by Colt in 1959. The only production AR-10s back then were made by the Dutch, with several contracts for Sudan and Cuba.
Eagle Arms of the 1990s bought the ArmaLite name from Elisco, and re-branded themselves as ArmaLite Inc. That’s when they made the AR-10B and AR-10T that ran on modified M-14 mags. My first AR-10 was actually an EA-10T from that era.
The Eagle Arms ArmaLites are SR-25s that take M-14 mags. Karl Lewis and David Doerbeck used an SR-25 upper receiver to do the initial testing with their lower receivers that would take M-14 mags, with an AR-style mag catch hole cut in the mag bodies.
To make it more confusing, the new ArmaLite Inc. introduced an AR-10A that ran on SR-25 mags around 2010 if I recall. I saw it at SHOT when they revealed it, and that’s basically their new standard. The new AR-10A uses their large receiver set, while the original 1959 ArmaLite/Colt AR-10A used a very small receiver set like an AR-15. It’s the most unknown AR-10 variant in the history of AR-10s, along with some of the Dutch 16” carbines and sharpshooter variants of the early 1960s.

I like shooting AR-15 platforms, but I fell in love after shooting a couple rounds through my Ruger SFAR. I can't take it anywhere without a crowd circling around in excitement.

I like how excited Colion gets shooting. I like Colion's and Hikok 45 the joy they get plinking.

Now this is the kind of rifle you get to keep 308 relevant now. Still would love to see this in 6.5 Creedmoor though.

6.5CM through a 16"pencil barrel, what a waste! At that point save money and just punch paper with .223.

Watched the video ! Shorty afterwards bought one but I got the 20in barrel version which by some reviews is even better recoil wise love the adjustable gas system. Absolutely love my 20in Ruger SFAR! Ruger needs to cut you a check for the advertisement and promo you did for them !

I bought a Stag 10 a few months before this came out. I have long been a Ruger fan and had this have been out for sale then, this might have been a serious contender at the time. No disappointment on the Stag though either.

Stags cost to much now. They used to be quite affordable. Then again i suppose you could say that about many things now.

@@guins99 I agree. Their revolvers especially. They're fairly new to the AR game though. Brand New to the AR 10 game, and that's a more finicky system with different tolerances than 5.56. Springfield has a good reputation. So does Remington. I've had total LEMONS from both companies (especially Remington after they split and became a conglomerate).

Love Ruger. I have their AR556, their mini 14 in tactical, and the 9mm carbine. All were affordable and are dependable.
