Good vid Simon. I think a good shout is actually just the native Android camera app too! I've been thoroughly impressed with it since making the switch from iOS in December. (Though appreciate this is just iOS on this video!) It would be an awesome video to see you create some test shots, edit them, and show the output using your own personal fav app (which I'm guessing is Filmic?!) Hope you're well
Hi Simon, I have just come across your videos which are great. I have Filmic Pro Legacy, Beastcam and Mavis, though I am not yet proficient with any of them. What would you suggest I stick to, to get the best results, for just everyday use. Many thanks. Terry Davis
Updating my comment. You were right not to include Mavis in your review. They didn't update the app to be compatible with iOS 16 and now the shutter is not working among other things. Their last update was 7 months ago. I sent them 4 or 5 emails but got no response. I will have to forget about this app. It's a shame because it was certainly the best cam app to use when shooting news or anything else that needs to be fast but good.
It would be nice if filmic pro include feature like timecode sync to use with Atomos ATOMXSYBL1-US AtomX Ultrasync Blue. I want to record ambisonic audio with zoom h3 vr without connecting it through the lightening port of the iphone. I can record audio to zoom h3 vr using H3 control on the iphone but sadly can’t monitor it. And one of the reason why I don’t want to connect zoom h3 vr to the iphone it’s because when I walk there is some crackling sound record from my arms friction while they contact with gimbal or monopod surface. And I think the cable transfers this crackles wobbling and rubbing against the body
I like Mavis, for it’s featuring of Waveform and Vectorscope right on the interface. Very cool! A great feature for any of the apps will be built in ND filters, as in pro film cameras. Cheers!
I’ve been searching non stop for a camera or an app that has the pause and record feature bc I miss the oldshool cam recorder where u can just watch a consecutive video at the end, but I can’t seem to find anything like this …. Or similar … anyone know of something helpful?
Curious, which is the best app to use with my DJI OM 5 Gimbal to be able to record and zoom in and out using the gimbal? I tired using the Mimo app and while it does work, the zoom markers create a "stutter" while I'm zooming in and out. I wish it wouldn't do that. Let me know what you can if there is a better app. Thank you.
Dear Simon, I personally love your videos. You are a great facilitator. I wish to address the matter of Filmic Pro. As a one-time-paid app, plus having bought other paid options offered by the company, I felt disgruntled with their new forced offer. Now, I cannot even use the app if not switching to the subscription. If I were a pro, and using Filmic Pro as a business tool, I'd consider such an option. But I'm a hobbyist. I use it sometimes. I cannot pay such a price, and I feel repulsed by their attitude of blocking my access to my paid app plus paid options. Why didn't they put the new advanced version as an independent paid program? For, as you mention here: Not all of us use the advanced options since our level of editing is the one of a hobbyist, who trims and edits for the fun of it. I am one among the teeming, disgruntled customers, who are now ranting and bitching about this move from Filmic Pro. But it will be as barking to the caravan. May I suggest something? Imagine if a group of facilitators like you, would unite and tell to Filmic Pro, that you, as a group, and as an individual, do not approve of this kind of management from them? Maybe they will listen. I appreciate the fact that you, same as others, are giving us options and alternatives out of Filmic Pro. This is a typical White Tie Robbery, as far as I'm concerned. Have a great day!
Just had this same experience. I had to subscribe to access my videos and download them. I will now be unsubscribing. What a rip off after already paying for the app and the remote app!
Hello Simon, is protake support full feature in zhiyun smooth 5? i mean like the wheel, can support zoom and focus too?or just like filmic pro that just support focus? thank you
What gimbal do you use when you are using a cell phone, lens, variable ND filter, polarizing filter, and maybe audio receiver? I switched through a couple but they didn’t have a big enough weight capacity and some heavier duty gimbals cost significantly more. I ended up getting the Zhiyum crane M2 for like 200 bucks US when is a good in between with a surprisingly large weight capacity for the price but I’m curious what other people use.
@@SiHorrocks No way!!! That's super cool. Great minds think alike. I was debating the DJI Osmo Mobile 4 but with such a big phone with my anamorphic lens and filters (possibly a wireless receiver) it just seemed like too much weight. The Osmo lets you balance differently tho and center the phone right in the middle which is nice because the phone is very long with the weight distribution not being very even. Big weight of lenses and filters on the very far end of it. I use double-stick take to put my wireless mic receiver on the other end to balance it out. Can't wait to see what you think about it. Especially with your new iPhone. That's a big heavy phone but shoots beautiful video.
I'm new to iphone I've been editing for almost 2 years but when I record a video and watch it it looks nice but when I go to edit it seems to drop down in quality little lines in my video some one please help me
Once again, the excellent Mavis is not included in a list of best cam apps for iPhone. Mavis is the only app which does lock the shutter, what is an extremely important feature. Filmic Pro, for example, doesn't . I've decided that instead of complaining I will do a review myself, comparing filmic pro, Mavis, Beastcam and a couple of other apps. We can discuss about which app is the best but in my view there is no discussion about which app is the worst app out there: Protake. I mean, really, why on Earth would you pay every single year for an app when you have so many excellent apps to choose from according to your needs and style and you buy those apps for life?
@@SiHorrocks Mavis was freezing all the time . I contacted them but they didn't care to reply. So I deleted the app and installed it again. It's working fine now. I am a TV news cameraman and have just shot an entire news story with my iPhone 13 Pro. I used Beastcam indoors but when I went outdoors in the sun and needed to keep the shutter in place I used Mavis and a Tiffen VND filter.
Great video there! I have an issue with my video recording but i can't seem to find answers in the internet:( So when i mount my iPhone 12 Pro Max for overhead tutorial videos where i use it to record my iPad Pro doing some tutorials. But when my iPad Pro screen has white colours or even some shapes or lines, the iPhone video "captures" these stuff and show it like translucent superimposed video over my entire set up. I thought i could eliminate it by readjusting the distance from my iPad/desk to the iPhone overhead but it seems constraining and doesn't work sometimes. Pls help me to understand the issue :(
You know, when studios realize how cheap it is to shoot a film on a smartphone, I wouldn’t be shocked if all the elitism surrounding that gets washed away, and they begin encouraging filmmakers working with lower budgets to do that for a low overhead. And I also wouldn’t be shocked if big time lens makers, Cooke, Arri, Panavision etc, try tapping into that market. Imagine using a miniature version of the C series anamorphics on your phone 😂
I bought Protake for a year the other day. When I use the app to record 4k 60 fps, I keep getting a red warning saying 'frame drop: 1,2,4,'. When viewing the footage, you can indeed see that it is 'choppy' and not smooth. I am using iPhone 12 Pro Max. Any idea why this happens? Have you experienced the same issue? I have been enjoying your videos on TH-cam which finally brought me back to my long-term dream of making films, which I had abandoned since graduating 12 years ago. How do I tip on TH-cam? I saw this feature somewhere but cannot recall where.
hi Andrey. When you drop frames it's usually because the processor is being pushed to the limit. So make sure to switch off other apps and then reduce bitrate if necessary. Try to keep space on the device as well, try to keep it from overheating I used to have the "thanks" option on TH-cam but as they take about half of it, it seems wrong somehow that people are tipping TH-cam as much as the creator. That said, you can use my Patreon (join and then immediately cancel) and 90% of the tip goes to the creator. www.patreon.com/SilentEye

Quality products don't come for free. Besides, if you want free, you usually have to settle for a compromise such as adds or commercials. Something I'd frankly be happy to pay to be without.
App 1 - 1:19
App 2 - 3:59
App 3 - 7:03
App 4 - 9:55
App 5 - 12:28

Rewatching this now after seeing your post today regarding Filmic Pro.
