Luffy losing here to Crocodile was such a good reality check! Till now, Luffy has very little problems beating bad guys, but this is our true introduction to the Grand Line. The pirates here are on another level, and the warlords should not be taken lightly.

@@raifthemad it is not only for the audience it is also for Luffy. There is no point in comparison between Mihawk, Smoker and Crocodile. Mihawk gave Zoro an opportunity out of respect, Luffy got away from Smoker out of "luck" since he doesn't know what actually happen and he is letting them scape. Pirates like Cocrodile do not respect others, and you can see throught these channel reaction and myself the first time I saw that he was really vile in comparison to previous villains, he is just worried about himself and his desires that's is what I am trying to highlight. He is willing to send a sandstone directly to a poor old man just for fun. Luffy Has not seen that type of person until he meet crocodile so it was a good opportunity for him to learn that not everyone will respect pirate code etc, so there are plenty of guys like him out there. Maybe the best example to compare would be Don Krieg, since he was also vile. It is just the diversity of people that he will encounter and he has to be prepared and us as an audience as well.
"sables" means "sands" in french and in the same time it means "sabers" in spanish
"spada" means "sword" in italian and is also close to "espada" which is "sword" in spanish
"girasole" means "sunflower" in italian
many of crocodile's attacks are wordplays between these languages
Luffy's enemy this time is different, Crocodile, one of the shicibukai and a clever enemy full of planning. like the key was originally in his hand. Fortunately, Oda's writing was cool, unexpectedly Mr. 3 was still alive with his powers and met Sanji and was able to open the prison... What's even better is that here we see Zoro's loyalty to Luffy, no matter what Luffy orders. like helping Smoker. Smoker is a fair marine and doesn't want to be in debt to pirates, that's why he let go of the Mugiwara crew... even though Luffy's confession makes Smoker embarrassed... hahahaa

TBH, as much as I hated Crocodile, you have to respect his cunning. He is by far the best villain so far.

"who do you think i am" the first time a true gangster shows up. The other villains were a little half baked, even Arlong came across as a small time hood. Crocodile seems like a threat from start to finish.

You are missing whole conversations while you chat amongst yourselves. Case in point. Right after Smoker explains which crock swallowed the key the dude goes, "I'm just wondering how they'll get the key." I know you said you're fast readers, but whenever you start conversing with each other, you barely glimpse at the screen, sometimes whole lines of text goes by without you looking at the screen. I remember you saying that you catch this stuff while editing, but that's not visible to people watching. We only see your initial reaction, and such half-assed allocation of attention to the show is very annoying, at least to me. There are plenty of people, who pause the video, when they have a thought they want to express, I would much rather you did that, than miss much of the story.
Guys, you should do screen recording and pause often. Your reactions are kinda rushed bcoz you're not pausing, and you're missing some parts that we want reactions coz it's funny, amazing etc.
I'm confused, did you miss the english subtitling at the top of the screen when they showed the note stuck on Mr. 3's back? They included a translation.

yeah Vivi is the only character that calls Chopper " Tony-kun" which is kinda neat . for some reason , the official English translator for the manga thought it would be appropriate to have Vivi call Chopper simply "Chopper" like how the other characters do . Unfortunately due to this change , there is one particular speech bubble in the English version that says "Chopper", that has the English readers assume that it is a line from Nami. But the Japanese readers instantly know that it was from Vivi.

Crocodile's sand sand fruit is 3rd logia devil fruit after Smoker and Ace. To a large portion of OP story, logia fruit users were extremely Overpowered since u can't physically damage them or even touch them normally. They felt invincible and everyone had to struggle too much to go against them. This time, it was a real threat Luffy faced and he came out with sheer will and his creativity
Sables means small tornado in Italian. Crocodile is portrayed as an Italian character so his attacks are named in Italian language. Oda always kept such themes
The sign on Mr 3 that Sanji left roughly translated says "See you later, shitty Crocodile. -Mr. Prince"
Also Sables is the French word for sand so Crocodile is just saying sand.

Nakama is not plural? Nakamatachi(仲間たち) is plural in Japanese? idk who told you its plural but that is not right in Japanese
hey if you guys wanna go extra nerdy on One Piece , I recommend you guys to learn a bit about the Japanese pronouns and honorifics and such . Japanese has a wide variety of first person pronoun usage which adds another layer to understanding the character dynamics and personalities . A Japanese native will recognize like 50 different pronouns , and Oda has roughly used over 30 , including some goofy made-up ones. but you probably should know like 4 -5 of them. Ore , Boku , Watashi and Atashi are like the most basic ones .
also just to give you an example of how crazy Japanese is : let's say you have a random sentence with a person saying " I like eating apples " . Now when you read that in English , there won't be much info you can get from that unless you have the context . In Japanese from that sentence alone , you can often have a rough guess on things like that person's age group , social status , personality and gender .
part of the reason the Japanese manga culture is huge among the Japanese is perhaps due to the medium working so well with the highly contextual language itself . English , due to its limitations ,often omit vital nuances that only Japanese readers could appreciate , so I do think the anime medium works as a means to supplement some missing pieces that an English manga reader may experience
Just as a counterpoint to the "It's gonna get so much better" crowd: Alabaster (together with Drum I guess) is still my favourite arc/storyline. There are certainly other incredible high points to come (my favourite moment is in the next arc for example), but in my humble opinion you can see how fame and the pressure that comes with it slowly drag the show down.
Smoker is my favorite Marine and Mihawk is my favorite Warlord.
Btw, when you think about it. You can't actually stab with the hook that crock has, the pointy end faces himself.

Sanji after rescuing them all, telling Nami to put on her perfume, might have felt like a Daddy move, and Nami complied, but it was also a part of his plan to have Chopper catch up to everyone.

Luffy can't always win. Sometimes he has to lose and get back up and train more to get stronger. This actually happens quite a bit throughout the series.

It was good to see Luffy really struggle for once against a serious villain. Crocodile was on such a different level Oda had to find different ways to save Luffy, otherwise Crocodile could have easily killed him here for good😅
This should give you a hint about how dangerous and more powerful enemies are in the Grand Line; Arlong was the strongest pirate in the East Blue, but there was a reason why he moved there and now you can see it. Don Krieg fleet was wiped out early in their journey in the Grand Line because of Mihawk and Crocodile is one of the Seven too.
One piece just has a way of getting to ya...even the small scenes like the interaction between luffy and smoker. Really makes you fall in love with the characters

Sanji is one of the best written characters in OP, he's smart, dumb, goofy, strong and entertaining in general (also he works well with pretty much any member of the crew story wise), great backstory too. Sadly Oda decided to nerf him with the perv gag the more he went on, making him such a divisive character (still like him a lot though, reading the manga it's easier to just ignore those parts, they are also more toned down there compared to the anime)😩
Btw Sanji asking Nami to put on the perfume was for Chopper to find them more easily, though he obviously also loved it too lol
Manga readers know how well-written Sanji is. However, for a very long time, the pervy jokes detract form him severely.
This Final Episode. Luffy dead. One Piece doesn't exist.
