    the reason why usopp was fighting better than usual is because he had plenty of time to prepare for the fight and he also knows who he's up against. in other fights he just gets thrown in with no preparation and no idea what the enemy's weaknesses are.

    the thing is Usopp is projecting, he got mad because how luffy easily give up on Merry because Merry cant help them no more , which is Usopp thinks that it would be him next to be left out or abandon because he really thinks that he didnt help the crew much adding the guilt of losing the money

He is not only his captain but also a very close friend, he may not understand Usopp insecurities but he knows how important Merry was to him. Luffy himself reacted badly at first to the news but he could have his reaction, he didn't let Usopp have his own. It really came off as if it wasn't such a hard decision for Luffy. Usopp went way, way too far, but this moment also showed Luffy still had things to learn.

    This is one of the most important moments in OP. That doesn't have anything to do with loyalty, they are all loyal, the difference is just that the others are more openly emotional characters. Also Zoro has an image of how a captain should act and if Luffy didn't live up to it he made it clear he would leave. And i also dislike how some Zoro fans (who should know their favorite character better) use this moment to say that he is the most loyal, disregarding the other members, when what they really mean with loyal is "he doesn't contest his captain decisions", when it's actually exactly what he does. Luffy telling Usopp, that he decided to have a new ship..is something that was discussed in a vid by Dudes talking manga ft. Merphy...
    He did it with a Forced smile, to not show it outright to Usopp that they lost the money and the chance to fix her (according to Usopp), he just simply desired for Usopp to not feel any burden..just look ahead, its hard to smile in this situation..but hey..Cheer up..
    But Usopp doubled down, and even tripled down on it..
    he did not recieved the Time to digest the news..like others got.
    This situation was more like an Usopp personal problem, ever since Long Ring Long Land, where they said we need a Shipwright..and Usopp was like "I am here"..
    He just joined along with the boat back at Syrup village..it was a defense mechanism for him to act like that, being the caretaker for the ship all this time..now its out, so before they all throw him away, he decided to move away...a very personal situation..insecurity.
    He lost faith in his Captain...
    but understood it later on via chatting with Franky, which you guys know...and told Robin "Have Faith in Luffy"
    Oh such a great Callback Oda..reeled it all in.

    So, Usopp's character is misunderstood even by the biggest OP fans. It is his dream to be basically a brave warrior. Courage is his theme. But if he stops being scared, he just becomes another Luffy, Zoro and Sanji. Then his character becomes meaningless. Courageous doesn't mean you aren't scared and it would also ruin Usopp's character. Usopp HAS to be scared and Usopp has to contsnatly fight against his own fears, because that is what courgae/bravery are.

      @Smurez 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spoilers ahead!!
      Fair point, and totally makes sense from the narratives perspective. BUT what pisses me off about him, is that even after time skip he didn't develop one bit. Yes, he's the one to overcome his fear against strong enemies. But even after 2 years training he shivers facing *any* no-name. 0 character development. Instead he could be the one using his utensils to avoid face-to-face fights and still be useful. But no, instead he keeps screaming. Again, and again, and again. The only time that I can recall him being useful post time skip was against sugar, and even that moment hardly outweighed how he behaved before. Against Ulti he could've had his moment overcoming his fear, but he plays dead instead while Nami is refusing to denounce Luffy and showing backbone.
      Sad to admit it, but for me Ussop has become the same as chopper, insignificant comedic relief with no character development. While that role fits chopper, Ussop annoys me more often than not.

    • @AizenIsKubo
      @AizenIsKubo 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Smurez Well like I said before. If he isn't scared, how can he then be brave? That is inherently oxymoronic. And I'm not dismissing your critics. You are right to have them, but I'm pointing out how Usopp HAS to be like this. So it's a matter of liking him or just not liking him.
      But also you have to dig a little deeper to understand the character. Usopp learns how to fight for different things at different turning points.
      In Arlong Park, he needed to fight in order to be able to freely laugh along with his crewmates (essentially to belong to the crew).
      In Alabasta, he runs away in a worse manner abandoning Chopper, BUT then Usopp has to fight because someone made fun of Luffy's dream. So this time, he learned to fight for his friends dreams.
      Water 7/Thriller Bark Usopp's character took a very interesting turn. And I wish Oda had kept that. Sogeking was actually a great way forward to Usopp's character.
      But anyways, the next turning point was in Dressrosa when Usopp had to learn to fight for random people that depend on him.
      Usopp's character kinda has to do this on repeat, otherwise that's the end for this character.

      @@AizenIsKubo OK interesting observation that he is kind of expanding the radius for what and who to be brave, didn't ever consider that.
      I totally agree with the sogeking part. It even expands to some extent to thriller bark where he was somewhat of an MVP. It would just take a little bit of that now and then and I would like Ussop a lot more.

    By the way, Usopp don't fight that good usually because he doesn't have time to prepare (strategy and inventory) + he always panics + he lacks confidence and determination, usually his first instinct is just run and survive, but here he is determined to beat luffy and he thought it out, he has no fear just anger and pride. All of these combined very well explains why he is doing so well here compared to him usual self. Oh, i forgot to mention that he is very familiar with luffy's fighting style and his abilities. And he is confident Luffy won't kill him, so that's also why he doesn't fear. Well, maybe usopp is really was not afraid to die here regardless, who knows.

    Usopp is fighting because of his own insecurities. He has always seen himself as weaker and more of a burden, but losing the money was sort of the straw that broke camels back.
    Then when Luffy says they are going to leave the Merry, he thinks that they will eventually leave him behind too.

    Ussop's is one of the best character arc's in One Piece. He isn't going insane with pride or even attachment to Merry. He is going insane with insecurity. He thinks that he is useless to the crew because he is not a fighter nor does he have a specific purpose in the crew like navigator or doctor. He is self sabotaging because he is afraid the crew will abandon him like Merry. When he overcome's his insecurity and finds his place in the crew is one of the greatest payoffs in the story. (Its not in this arc or the next. It happens gradually through out the story up untill now)

    Usopp is angry out of grief and insecurity, not necessarily pride. And Usopp fought harder against Luffy because Luffy is the strongest opponent Usopp faced in his entire life and Usopp was painfully aware of how strong Luffy is.
    34:14 they never went to Elbaf the island of Giants at this point.

    About the fight… Luffy acted as a friend by letting Usopp hit him with all he had, when he could have ended all with a single punch, like he did with Bellamy, because it would have broken Usopp spirit beyond repair. The fight was not about the ship at all.

    Hate how so many people don't get the point of this fight and why Usopp is actually doing decent (he always has done his job in fights, people just love to downplay his achievements for some stupid reason) he even states it's because he knows how Luffy fights at the very beginning. Usopp also has waaaaaay more emotional attachment to the Merry since it was gifted to Luffy by HIS childhood friend, not saying Usopp is right in this situation, just trying to make you realize why Usopp was so upset in the first place. That and the fact Usopp has major insecurities and people who aren't insecure can't really understand how Usopp is feeling here.
