Kim, my heart truly goes out to you. You are such a special mom to all your boys. I can so relate to what you are going through. Our schnauzer Gracie is now almost 14 yrs old and she has major heart issues. Responding to her medications but we realize we have to be prepared for what all of us dread as pet parents. I won’t go into everything as you have enough going on with Mr. Grant. Pls just know I’m thinking about you and keeping you and your family and Mr Grant and all the boys in prayer. Your boys are all precious and I enjoy your videos. 🙏💙🙏
I forgot to mention this Kim. Gracie has been having hind leg issues and having a hard time getting up and down. Just a couple of weeks ago my vet suggested Dasuquin chewable tablets which I break up and put in her food and she had responded well so far. I believe it is helping her. I realize Mr Grant has other issues and not sure if it would be a good choice for him but I just thought I’d mention it to you. You may have even tried it.. 💙
Our boy Reily had doggy dementia went through this so familiar with Mr grant's life. I didnt think we would be able to make that difficult decision but when the time came we really knew. Sweet goodbyes I felt the release was a blessing for him. You are doing so much so much more 💓 grant is fortunate to have you as his mom and dad.
Kim you and your family have been the best schnauzer parents. Mr. Grant is just like our Mr. Chips was his last year. You will know when the time is right regarding Mr. Grant's quality of life. Easily the hardest pet parent decision we have to make. Your boys always make my day!
You are so very kind looking after Mr Grant. Its a shame when dogs get old. You are making his life so much easier and he will feel safe and comfortable with you being out there with him. Sending love for dear Mr Grant. X
My Angus died on October 10th , in my arms, and I understand what you all are going through. Of course I do. Angus had turned 12 in September and he died with prostate cancer. It is never easy to let a beloved pet go, but just know this: you have given him the very best life he could have possible have had and he has been able to have other darlings around him. My love to you.

Hi Kim……just a thought…when our Little Hooley was in his last time…he had a very damaged shoulder muscle….the vet did laser treatments….did WONDERS for him and him lameness. It wasn’t (a least then 2017) prohibitively expensive. It certainly wasn’t a cure but it made his last time much easier for him. 💖🐾🐾 Susan M

Mr Grant has truly been blessed in his golden years to be in such a loving family. I like the greenhouse, very good for those snowy times. I hope you don't get too much wet snow, which may lay on it and bring it down. More powdery snow should slide right off. And you know where Mr Grant can go potty when its bad. Take care and continued health improvements for you and your family.

This is FABULOUS!!!! If I could figure out a way to set something like this up on our property and our prissy missy would use it I would do it in a flash!!!! We live in the PNW (WIND AND RAIN!!!!!) with steep land around our home and she usually goes off and down the hill under bushes and to do her business but hates the rain!!
I'm continuing to root for Mr. Grant's health!! At the very least, I hope he could make it to his 16th birthday ❤ Thanks so much for all that you do for him Kim!

Have you tried laser therapy for Mr. Grant’s joints? It helped with one of our precious schnauzers last few months to make her more comfortable.
No we haven’t
Last year my Schnauzer 17 years the day I took her out to use bathroom she fell down and wobble when we picked her up . I told her girl you are giving up your going make me put you asleep 😢 I cried she got worse 6 days later we made the decision it was hard😢 miss her

Poor Mr. Grant. I am tearing up. I feel bad for him. It is lousy when your dog gets old and sick. I have been there many times. Never gets easy. You guys are the best mom and dad. He got the best care a dog could possibly get. I will keep him in my prayers.

The schnauzer out house is a pure act of love for Mr. Grant! This shows the deep love you have for your fur babies to think of their comfort in even the simplest thing as going potty outside. You have not known him his whole life, but his life since meeting you has been one of love and compassion. Thank you for being the protector of this sweet baby. He is exactly where and who he should be with in this time of his life ❤

Thank you guys for taking such excellent care of Everypawdy! Mr. Grant is exactly like my 16 year old Sherlock. He wobbles around the house and has a hard time walking on the wood floors. My lil guy is going to be 17 April 1st! Thankfully he religiously uses his pee pads inside. He no longer goes outside to potty. The greenhouse is a great idea. My neighbor had one, but we get wind whipping through quite a bit here and theirs blew away. All you can do is try. I pray it works wonders. People don’t understand the chaos of putting out plastic tarps when it snows. It’s a lot of work, especially when the ice comes too. We have talked about the decision of if it’s time for our old man Sherlock, but we are holding off. It’s so difficult of a decision to make. Only owners know when it’s time. That’s what my old vet used to tell us. We just lost our 20 year old Chihuahua late last year. It’s just sad when those choices have to be made. At least Mr. Grant is able to go potty and has most of his wits about him. When he gets too vicious though… please don’t risk your safety. I rescue and I cannot tell you the previous ones we see that have gone through hell before we got them. Later in life, they kind of revert to old fear behaviors. It has nothing to do with y’all. It’s from the abuse and severe neglect they went through previously. God Bless you all and Everypawdy! Praying for you all! ❤️🐾🙏🏽😘
I understand how you feel with Mr. Grant and wondering how much longer he has before you have to make that decision. Just know that when the time comes, you gave him a good life, and that he was happy being with you and the other boys.

You’ve been wonderful Schnauzer parents. Great idea to help Mr. Grant go outside. What you can do to enforce the shelter is to tie it down to the ground with heavy rope over it and with stakes tie it to the ground. We have lots of snow here in Montréal 😊
You and your family gave him a beautiful life in hospital retirement years. Bless you all for loving him dearly. We all have been blessed with watching Mr. Grant. The greenhouse is a wonderful idea.

Missed hearing about the schnauzer howl! When we had snow, Bella had zero problems going through the snow! It did not phase her! 😊
It's so hard to make that ultimate decision. I told my Vet, who I trusted with all of my being to let me know, because my heart wouldn't allow it. He told me that it was time with both of my boys and I said, "It's time". Looking back, I selfishly waited too long with both of my boys. My Murray would do the "ring of fire" as I called his circling, He also got stuck under coffee tables. He was blind and what I assume dementia, I get it. My Emma made her own decision due to CHF. I know have my Molly and Willow and I hope that I do right by them.

If plastic don’t hold snow get some cattle 🐄 panels to put inside they are 16 foot make an arch out of them inside will really make it strong good luck our carly an hattie watch too

Kim you made me smile when you said A schnauzer outhouse,thats a great idea of your hubby,you are such good doggy parents,poor dear mr grant,canine cognitive dysfunction is so cruel,like so many diseases are ofcourse,I remember when my girl had it,she started to nip now and again,she never broke skin or anything it was only her confusion,Bless them,just cherish each and every day with mr grant,every day with them is precious,thats all we can do,I am glad to see you are feeling much better

Kim, what a clever idea. I wish I had known about this two years ago when I was having to guide my blind poodle/chihuahua mix (Bevo). The cold weather months were the hardest but I did have help from my schnauzer Ruger. He watched out for owls and hawks while I guided Bevo through the yard. Ruger passed away last April at age 12 of cancer and Bevo last July at age 17. I have a new schnauzer named Ruby, she is helping to fill the void. Prayers are with you, stay strong.

Don’t worry about it smelling like urine. Just wash it down with an enzyme cleaner before you put it away, maybe put a box of baking soda in the tote with it, and then don’t worry about it.

Mr Grant is so sweet and my heart breaks for all of you. He is so lucky to have you to take care of him. He is so loved and the things you do for all your boys is awesome. No one should ever say anything derogatory about how you take care of them. I have one schnauzer, Winston, and he is a handful and cannot imagine 7 but would love to have one more. I know you will keep us up-to-date on Mr Grant and rest of the boys. Winston loves watching Miggy play ball! Me too! ❤❤❤

Thank you for the great idea! Our schnauzer has no issue with the snow but she can't stand the rain. We started to build an outhouse last summer but never finished. This might be a better option. Love to watch your videos as I always get good ideas. Thank you for sharing your boys with us!

I think the green house is a super good outhouse. I think Grant is failing, but he is so blessed to have his pawrents taking care of him and loving him. God bless Kim and Tom for taking Grant into their pack!

What a great idea. As a "Plan B"...if there happens to be too much wind, then move the greenhouse to a more protected spot, like against the house. Just love it.

Doggy dementia must be one of the hardest things to go through, as there is no way back and watching the circling and them struggle with forgetting how to turn, get out of corners, losing their balance, walking into things, losing their hearing and sight and forgetting how to lay down and settle, is so hard, but the one thing that kept me and my husband hanging on there for him, was that his eyes were still bright, he loved us and he loved his food and he still like a walk.
We were always concerned were we doing the right thing and he'd be up and down, but the vet would reassure us, its not the right time yet.
The time came very sudden. Tight circles and then he stopped. That night his breathing was very laboured and in the morning, he couldnt walk. He just stood there. We rushed him to the vets and they did what needed to be.
I cried watching your video as it brought it all back, but you love him and we loved ours and we do the best for them. We dont through family under the bus with dementia, nor should we with our beloved dogs. Theyve given us such a lot throughtout their lives, they deserve the same kindness.

The greenhouse is a fantastic idea. Some dogs refuse to go on the snow and this is great for all the dogs. They may all start to use it for 💩 and you would only have to scoop this area.
We have one that we do start our plants in. But great idea for the fur babies. 😊 hubby uses tent stakes and ours made it through the ice and snow. Gonna think about a small one for the rainy season for our Max.

That's a fabulous idea! All the dogs will appreciate it come the next snow storm. You might need to discuss with the vet about the availability of euthanasia. Here in Virginia it is nearly unavailable.
I’m in Richmond and a lot of vets will do it in your home, where the pets are comfortable

Mr. Grant is a gem. It is very sad when our pets age and get to a point where owners need to make a decision about their quality of life.
