    That's the most professional auto repair video I've seen! Comprehensive, but no wasted time with chit chat or needless information - Great photography too - shows what is essential, but doesn't get us dizzy with excess camera movement.

    Thanks for the awesome DIY for a 4wd. Love the professional footage where you can actually see the fasteners and not some footage where someone points to a bolt in the shadows that you can't see. You actually gave me a great idea... My 6.0L Escalade with 172K miles has been leaking for a while and I am finally annoyed enough to replace the gasket. I spotted you putting that nice shiny new oil pan on and I thought to myself "who likes drilling out rivets where metal flakes contaminate everything and then having to completely clean the inside and outside of the original pan caked with sludge, plus the sealing surfaces." I have a home garage and no proper area for cleanup that doesn't burn a lot of time for a job like this. THANK YOU... I just ordered a brand new pan so I don't need to make a mess I will regret in my garage, driveway or on my property! Thanks again for a very detailed and organized video tutorial!

    This can be done without a trans jack. If you are able to have a second person, that's your best bet. I've heard of just lowering the diff down a little which works fine if you are in a hurry. But if you have time, I highly recommend removing the diff. It will give you a chance to take a look at things that might need to be replaced while your down there.

Take the time to post your own efficient video instead of criticizing someone else's video with no beneficial informative information given as to what was needed or not needed. Everyone gets paid by the hour btw, and a quote for the job is typically given by anyone worth a hoot.

    Damn I would not mind to do all that but the fact I have to do it on dirt. Is a no for me and I would n need the torque specs for the drive shaft. And anything else he marked off with an X And also removing the factory revits it’s going to be a road block for me. I’m just curious to see how much a shop is going to charge. Because I already have the gasket.

  • @I-watch-at-2x
    @I-watch-at-2x ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've honestly never seen it done by taking out the front differential, usually I just disconnect and let it hang being supported. Plenty of room to pull the pan.

    Replace my gasket twice and leaks from the the top last bolt on the oil pan on the driver side right above the oil filter and right across on the passenger side from that corner right near the starter bolt what could be the issue I rtv all 4 corners on bottom of engine but still seeps

      Did you do this job? I have a 2004 Escalade and need to change the gasket because there is a leak I can’t find. I seen another video and it looks like the guy didn’t disconnect the drive shaft, pitman arms or front axels and he got the job done. I’m just wondering if we only need to remove the cross member and lower the differential.

    • @e.s.l5861

      That right by the flywheel. Probably leaking from the rear main seal or from the oil sending unit

    • @BP-ju8bc

      Thats a plastic shield that goes around the starter nose. If it leaks there, you may have a rear main seal or cover leaking. Trans needs to come out for inspection.

      Nearly the exact same procedure. If you have rack and pinion steering, remove the bolts and lower it you don’t have to remove the lines or take it out completely. That’s all that is different from 4wd and 2wd.

      Rear main?

    • @altonb93
      @altonb93 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rear Main Seal. Remove the transmission and flex plate and remove the rear engine cover. Replace the rear main seal and rear cover gasket. They sell the rear cover with the seal, gasket, and new bolts and its not that expensive. Should take you around 4 hours if you’ve never done that before. You will need a transmission jack or make a flat platform with 2x4’s to put on the jack so you can remove the transmission.

    • @FritzsGarage
      @FritzsGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TRQ that’s what I figured. I’m replacing basically everything in the front suspension so I’ll just add dropping the diff to it. I asked because I’ve watched a lot of videos where folks just loosen and drop the whole axle a few inches and wrestle the pan out. Great videos!

    • @IversonsFamily
      @IversonsFamily 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I work in a shop and have done many of these. When you are flagging hours for a living, you find quicker and more efficient ways of doing things. Just lower the axle, disconnect the wire harness and this gives you another half to 3/4 inch in clearance. It slides out easily in everyone I have done. Much easier than wrestling with the axle.
      ALWAYS remove pick-up tube (3 bolts) and replace orange O-ring when you do this job.
