    I ended up getting the polymer handle variant, it took a bit of time to find availability. I will say of everything great about this knife, it was actually the polymer handle. This is by far the most incredible execution of polymer I’ve ever experienced. It’s contoured and textured, warm to the touch almost like micarta, but most impressively THERE IS NO FLEX! Absolutely shocked me and now I’m holding all other USA knives using polymer to a much higher standard.

    I think that the pricing here is obviously strategic. The $250 price point is where people who are generally not fans of something, and is the top end of "I should try this maybe" " it's a great deal, everyone says so I think I'll miss out if I don't buy this". And I do 1000% think that the price tag is going up or the other option is that they will have much , much cooler variations for a lot more money.

      @Sleepy_spartan717 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it’s priced that way to compete with the protech Malibu. It’s literally an almost direct competitor from two typically auto companies. Just with two different, equally fidgety locking mechanisms.

      I think more expensive variants is probably the most likely scenario. Being Microtech, I’d expect to see some 4-500 dollar knives with some signature elements and special finishes around this time next year. Probably a handful of mirror polished 2,000 dollar Marfione “custom” variants as well.

    I was lucky enough to pick one up. The action was horrible when I first got it. I ended up taking it apart to figure out why. Turns out the coating they apply to the blade was also coating the blade where the lock interfaces. I hand polished the blade along the lock interface with a diamond stone, added some KPL in the pivot bearings and it runs smooth as glass. I don't know if I would call the "lock stick" real stick. The disengagment does require the slightest of force, but it's been extremely consistent and is much improved with the polishing. The blade swings freely with the lock disengaged. Skiff does not make a caged bearing that will fit this massive pivot, but the shipped bearings do a great job and you can literally hear the bearings rolling as the blade is actuated. The blade material does seem to be better than the standard M390..still super sharp as the day I got it and I've been using the heck out of it..tactical cardboard cutting!
    I also got an EXO-M and as much as I want to carry it, the MSI has been my goto ever since I got it. EXO-M is my desk fidget tool.😅

      Love the info you give here. I wonder is taco bearings makes something that would fit this. I have them on a zt 0562cf and they are absolutely amazing

    • @Magoot2456
      @Magoot2456 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea mine had kind of crappy action from factory, so as all us knife nuts do, I tore it apart and cleaned it and re lubed it with nano and now it's amazing! I think the lube they use is garbage, so a little nano fixes all! :)

    I picked my copy up recently and it is the "new and improved" version with the frag milled texturing on the handle, and reviewed it. Pursuant to the clip, I have read somewhere in the past, before this knife came out, that Microtech uses that clip as a two-stage where it can go partially into the pocket, or all the way into the pocket. This gives the user the option of having more to grab to "tactically" remove the knife or choose a deep carry option. Snarky, nice review! 😅🗡️👍

    I have a Stitch with the ram-lok best knife never I've ever held and last night I found the exact MSI I wanted. Frag G10 with an apocalyptic plain edge. Very excited for that to come in

  • @matthuck378
    @matthuck378 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is just about the most reasonable Microtech I've ever seen. A "mini" with a 2.75-3" cutting edge would be cool, but I won't hold my breath, haha.

  • @Intoxacajun
    @Intoxacajun หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would never have looked at this knife except a vendor had one at a recent gun show in my town. I didn't know Microtech made a manual. It's the polymer with the black coating on the blade. I kept going back by the booth to handle it and finally picked it up at a good price. I love it! Great quality and steel, made in the USA. It is a beast! Keep going back to it to carry just because it works! Carries smaller than it is.

  • @Lochlann13
    @Lochlann13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think this is a really solid starting point for Microtech to build on their crossbar-style platform. It definitely has some kinks that need to be worked out, but luckily none of them are deal breakers, at least for me.

  • @jonathanporter5223
    @jonathanporter5223 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Just a guess but $250 must be for the G-10 handle version because I just purchased one with the polymer handle for $175. And honestly, I'm glad I went with the polymer. Which at first was due to its availability and the lowest price point I could find, but now its because the handle is just so impressive. I'm a lefty so I appreciate when a company does a fully ambidextrous model knife which with the MSI has been done exceptionally well. The contours are nice and even with great texturing. Lock up is solid, giving it a strong and robust feeling in hand. I mean, this thing is legit. Overall, I'm just stoked I found one, but now knowing it was worth every penny, well that's pretty cool, too.

    I have the FRN version. Basic black. First of all, I jumped at the first picture and told my seller I wanted one. I didn't bother checking the rest of the page. Secondly, even if I had checked the entire page and had seen the other versions, I think I still would have settled for the version I got. The reason? Price. PM2 price. Mine developed a lot of lock stick initially. Now it's stick free. I love it.

    I’ve been seeing everyone’s videos on theirs and they look a tad different than mine. Mines has 2 extra screws by the stop pin. Was that part of the changes they made along with the clip?

    Little tip if your finger is just barely resting on the lock button when you deploy the blade it neutralizes the lock stick. Also as long as you don’t deploy the blade like you’re cracking a whip, it will not stick.

    I guess I am one of those rare weirdo’s that uses a folder in a tactical environment. Having ambi clip and lock mechanism is a must for me. My holster sits directly over the pocket that I would normally carry a knife so I either carry it in my opposite side or below the holster in a cargo pocket. The blade shape also makes alot of sense to be able to cut folks out of webbing/seatbelts with little risk of cutting them. Great review, this one is definitely on my “get” list.

    I am surprised and pleased the Microtech got this knife under $200!!! Sure, they’re injection molded polymer scales. However, as soon as aftermarket scales are available I’m getting some, and at about $180 it’s easier on the pocket!

    So, I actually do need washers because I work with corrosive chemicals, gritty junk, occasional sandbags…basically the whole spectrum of knife-ruining goodness. How the hell do I shop specifically for washer knives? No website will let me sort/filter by washer vs bearings.

    • @andrewmccormick1187
      @andrewmccormick1187 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check for a disassembly video for the knives you really want. Also, most $50 minimum knives have at least Teflon washers. There’s also a secondary market for bearings and washers that may have solutions for your problems. Good luck!!

    This is a an awesome knife! It became my new EDC, replacing a ZT 562CF. It comes incredibly sharp out of the box and the fit and finish are perfect. I love that style of blade as it has a very usable edge and a very strong tip. It opens smoothly and easily with just a flick of the wrist. I added a little bit of lube to the lock and the rounded part of the blade to make opening even smoother. M390 is an awesome steel and M390MK is very similar. The best part is the incredible value of this knife (polymer version) at only $177. This knife is way better than Benchmade’s Axis lock which i carried for a while (710) McHenry and Williams.

    My knives come out of my pockets a lot because of work and Microtech makes one of the best clips out there. It makes it so much easier to locate when putting it away blind and makes it easy to get out of the pocket because you have something to grab instead of pants. Anyways, love the channel.

    Wonder if a stiffer coil spring would solve that small "detent" issue.

  • @EMFSafetyZone
    @EMFSafetyZone ปีที่แล้ว

    The clip is just fine. What is stupid however, are the two screw heads sticking up way too high inside the top of the clip. Those catch the pants a bit. I am holding mine right now while sitting at my desk. I like it. But there is just something about the design and shape of the handle that is just a big "NO" for me. Most knives just melt into my hand and are comfortable. Even Chinese made knives. I don't know what it is, but this handle just is not friendly or comfortable. Hard to put words on exactly.

    Did you mention the blade material? I must’ve missed that. Yes the stitch is more satisfying to open as you know.. if I was gonna say anything negative it would probably be the thing that you said the most the clip , to me, the clip seems very flimsy , definitely need a tighter clip on there . Other than that I think it’s perfect for a knife.😂 feels good in my hand, and I guess that’s all that matters. Thanks

    • @jamesfair9751
      @jamesfair9751 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thinking back to the manix 2 it spydie flicks well and I remember thinking to myself man that lock release is hard to press. So I guess that answers my question the stronger spring in the manix 2 makes it flick better. Hope Microtech realizes this and makes a heavier replacement spring.

    • @thaknobodi
      @thaknobodi 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. Either that or needs a cam redesign on the detent to make it stay closed more strongly. Maybe in connunction with a slightly stronger spring.

    Bought on and wasn’t too impressed. Mine had lock stick, basically no detent and the clip was crap. The lock “button” is way to aggressive. It’s heavy and not practical for every day use. Sold it for $300 and never thought about it again.

    I usually agree with you, especially concerning pocket clips. The only time I like that particular clip is on the Dirac, because it is so light I carry it clipped to my shirt and it really works great on thinner fabric. This knife is good for 250 but only because it's US made and a microtech. I should like it more but I just don't feel it. Passing it along.

    I wish companies would stop using bearings. There is nothing wrong with washers and in my experience, washers can be just as good, if not better. I'm one of those few that work in a very sandy/dusty and at times muddy environment and bearings do not enjoy that. I also run my knives dry (no oil) and prefer lock stick. Oil will attract more dirt and grime and lock stick is kind of an extra safety measure. I guess I'm weird...lol.

    Sharp knife by MT. They have super cool gear year round. I don't see the slowing down for a long time. I hope they are planning to make a lot of this model. Price isn't that bad either.4 inch blade as well! Sweet.

    Microtech has came out with a special edition ultratech with magnacut it would be awesome if they started using it in all their knives.

    M390mk is just m390 with mk at the end . Coming from the same guy that made sure we saw the 'a' at aus10a and that 10 is 2 more than 8 on the demkos. Microtec will start making more knives in China if this knife shows that to be insignificant

    I love a good knife that has beauty, function, quality materials and made with care. But, I’d never pay more than $125 for an every day carry knife… However I do like looking at them.

    I agree with the gloves debate. It's counter intuitive to make knife work better with gloves for those 3 times you open ot with gloves. On. If those people are that worried, THEY GET THE AUTO! Save money and time as well

  • @CrunchyJoints
    @CrunchyJoints ปีที่แล้ว

    $250 is definitely more than I'd like to pay, but considering all the other knives I really like are $400+, this is definitely a contender, if it's in stock when I'm feeling spendy.

  • @Sleepy_spartan717

    Microtech must have seen the succeed protech has had with their manual button lock knives sheet being primarily known for autos. Being that both companies are at the top of the field in their particular type of mechanisms, I’m not surprised that microtech threw their hat in the ring and made two awesome manual knives with another fidgety, strong, well love locking mechanism. It’s a super smart move and their current price on these definitely competes with the Malibu and somewhat the mordax.

  • @jamesfair9751

    But you don’t absolutely have to tactical the tactical to appreciate the ability to use with gloves. At work we have to wear cut resistant gloves and it’s nice not to have to take one off just to use my knife so I like it for that.

    Man that thing is firing on all cylinders! I'm afraid it's just racey, modernistic and "space cadet" enough to quickly fall out of favor with me though. I've learned that more traditional or classically styled knives will stand the test of time with me while more contemporary and high tech looking knives do not.
    Guess theres only one way to find out.

      I only reverse flick mine to open. Thumb opening is a little awkward. The reverse flick is super easy to do if you place your finger as close to the pivot as you can. MC has a retarded reverse flick. 🤣
