I fricken love the Houston Astrodome. Even now as it rusts into the ground it will forever be the first domed stadium. Whether they restore it or finally demolish it the Astrodome will always be FIRST!!

I prefer the Shooting Star uni's.

The Astros should have renovated this stadium instead of building another one. For 200 million, they could have made this place a showpiece and also retain its history. A no brainer. Someone failed bigtime.

I agree, people now days don't care about history they all want everything new. The MIGHTY ASTRODOME is my favorite building in the entire world.

I wonder who wore uniform #153 for the Astros in 1965 Spring Training?

I don't know, but Larry Dierker was seen on a stationary exercise bike and also in the video, Rusty Staub was walking around the clubhouse=pretty cool.
Oh, and Jimmy Wynn hit a homer in spring training.

Who knew it would become obsolete in less than 30 years. Camden Yards killed the multi-purpose stadium.

the beginning of the end, baseball as expensive spectacle...

    • @robertsprouse9282

Tickets at that time were not that much different in price than Colt Stadium...at least at first. And, what is a spectacle about having a roof built-in over a stadium?.. The sight was spectacular, yeah. But, baseball as a silly spectacle, it never was that.
If not for the Astrodome, many cities who have MLBASEBALL today would not have it.
Domes or retractable domes/roofed stadiums save rainouts in rainy, climates. And, the heat in some cities would chase fans away from stadiums if those facilities were not domed. All of that makes ticket prices go up. Or..MLB would never have expanded in those markets=TBAY/ST.PETE, SEATTLE, and HOUSTON(promise of a domed stadium had to be made to get the team), etc..

@MrOrios96 I dunno. Yeah it looks like a dump sitting right there next to Reliant Stadium, but going by the dome always puts a smile on my face, even nowadays.
