Bro.. that’s the best reaction to Lateralus ever. Don’t apologize, I cry all time listening to Tool🥹. You made my day, even my week. I strongly advise to react next to Parabol/Parabola both songs together … and don’t stop between them 🤘🏽

  • @sean_b_drummer
    @sean_b_drummer ปีที่แล้ว +46

The chorus is: 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 and repeat. 987 is an integer in the sequence.
During the bridge, the guitar and bass are playing 6/8 and the drums are playing 5/8 so they sync every 30 beats. 👍🏽🔥🤘🏽🌀🌀
Yes, along with Progressive Rock I like to classify them as, Tribal Metal.
Trust me, we KNOW that you'll feel every emotion with TOOL. NEVER apologize for that!!!
Yup, as many have and will say, one doesn't listen to TOOL, they experience it.

The part at 12:00 in your video is a great example of a polyrhythm. I notice that you have a hard time moving to it in this spot because your ear is switching between listening to the guitar and drums. They are playing in different time signatures and only come together every few bars. organized disorder...

When it's so damn good that it makes you feel like crying and you have goosebumps and you feel yourself moving uncontrollably... not sure how they managed to channel something so otherworldly and psychedelic through their instrumentation but it makes one really appreciate being alive to experience it. The Fibonacci sequence is written into the syllables/phonics of the lyrics, Maynard is a genius with his lyrics, double entendre, delivery, range/control, it's simply beautiful... The mixing & EQ is mesmerising.... The effects of the bass & guitar, & how the intertwine & play lead roles is so well constructed, everything is considered.... The polyrythms & complexity of the drums is face melting. All wrapped in a journey of mind boggling time sequences & intense emotion makes TOOL the benchmark of modern prog/metal. U don't dance to it, u spiral to it.
So glad u discovered & value these guys, they r something special. An experience, not mere entertainment.
U hit the nail on the head, it's a sonic trip.
I gotta say too, this band Live is next level. It's like nothing u will ever experience musically.
For a similar vibe & ride, u gotta check out an Australian band called Karnivool. They r cut from the same cloth. Very moving, & next level musicality. Check them out, u will not regret it.

I interpret their band name "TOOL" as a symbolic representation of the four members and the shared purpose they have. A tool is a form that expresses a purpose that is necessarily related to the human experience and it's mysterious expression. I believe they use the "band" to express a very human experience that they are inviting us to participate in. Generally, a tool is named for it's purpose. This band is called "TOOL". Imagine the revelation of the first human that created something which married the inner experience with the outer expression of purpose. Imagine, this first human turning to it's friends and grunting "tool". Language, form, meaning represented as a word and sound, and shape, and purpose. Showing all of that by simply demonstrating.
it also make for hilarious dick jokes, because fun is serious business.
TOOL is a tool used by tools to show tools that they are Tools.
The band is a form and expression, with purpose, of a collection of forms and expressions, with purposes, that are using collections of forms and expressions, that were created with specific purposes, to express the collective participation of multitudes of forms and expressions with their purposes.
    It's beautiful.

We love to see people discover Tool…as a drummer with roots in world percussion, polyrhythmic structure is the language of my soul…absolutely it is similar to west african root polyrhythms….this song still makes me cry…I loved your reaction…you get it 😁

Sometimes I think they have the complex polyrhythms to work on your overanalysis and overthinking so you kinda let go and just be with what is happening in the moment so the lyrics can really sink in.

Witnessing you experience this band is just as inspiring as the music. It fills me with joy to see someone recognize this for what it is. Beauty, tension, design, execution. There are 5 full length albums that Tool has released...you need to listen to them all, unpack them, unravel them, experience them. They were made for people like you. I love to see it.
p.s. It isn't just the drummer utilizing the Fibonacci Sequence on this song. Bass, guitar, drums, they all are using it. Even the singer is...count the syllables to the words. Prepare to have your mind blown...Again.
