Gentlemen, planning a turbo in my N62B48. Looking at your project brings to my mind one question that has not been answered before: - why can't you turbo valvotronic if this solution is in n63 engine and other engine versions with turbo.

not only is it hard to boost in the first place. its also a complete waste of money because the engine is not very reliable (there are tons of better BMW Engines from that era) and also you can just pick up a 330 or 325 for the price of turbo charging your engine. Plus youd have to upgrade your breaks and tons of other shit

Agree with the responses. The n42b20 is a decent, smooth, city engine, but it's a terrible platform for a project. I have an 04 318ci sat here. Got bored with it and bought an m57 e90 manual. The only reason I've kept the 46 is I know at some point I'll regret letting it go like every e30/36 I've had. It's a last of the pre FL model (far better looking than the FL IMO), has its receipt from Hamburg with spec list, full M sport, Alcantara, Carbon Cube, Shadow 2 pack.. One day it'll get engine swapped and some time and money poured into it. Maybe n54/55, maybe m62, maybe an SR20DET.. I dont know. All I do know is that while it has the n42 in it, I've no interest in putting any effort into it. They're hateful, gutless engines and trying to get any significant power out of them is a complete waste of time.
What about the LIMP MODE and the valvetronic problems , how did you make it , I have the same engine and friend of me told me that if I make a turbo project if will not gonna work and it will broke the valvetronic system ... give us little bit more information about the tuning
Dude listen if yo wan a turbo kit for a 318i e46 facelift you need to see someone how is sellin parts from a 320d 150hp the 136hp dont work and yo get al turbo kit from there
How you make a remmap for Turbo of N42b20a because i hear from most people when they Turbo this engine n42 is automatically go on LIMP MODE ? and people say if you turbocharger this engine of n42 is going to destroy Valvetronic system !!
@@danooba hola tengo un 318i con moto n42b20 año 2005 el full y tiene el motor malo , a lo que estoy leyendo es malo el motor pero colocarle un 6 cilindros es muy dificil ? que tanto tengo que modificar electricamente y mecanicamente ?
@@nitovalverde9298 On a 2005 it's not too much work, you just need to swap out the ECU, engine, gearbox, exhaust and auxiliary parts, code the immobilizer and fabricate a new wiring harness. Other than that you're all good.
Wich engine is it ?? I have n42b18 and want to install turbo, you have only install turbo system and piggyback ?? Or you have reprog ecu before start engine ??
Those n42 and n46 engines are not the same as the m44 and m42 they are not meant to be blown up by a turbo I have a lot of knowledge from these engines and what I know is that they are not reliable for pushing them hard better you build a m54 or any straight six but without vanos or those systems
The main problem is valvetronic system is very complicated to tune it. The six cylinder I increased compression ratio by change forged piston and change a new ecu.

the engine management we used piggybag
How much power did u managed to make and what piggyback did u run and hows thr car atm did u bend rods or anything

I wonder if there are any updates on this. I'd like to install turbo on mine but don't know where to start. The N42 engine is hard to boost.

We used original bmw ECU. But we remap the fuel and ignition time for turbo.

yeah it's not worth it, just buy a 6 cylinder instead of doing this
