    working my way through your videos and loving them. I love that idea of the light painting. I was trying to shoot a wine bottle and could not light the label nicely to safe my life. The light painting would probably have done the trick. Guess I need to go get some wine....

    Just discovered your channels and after watching several, I subscribed. Your cinema skills are awesome, as well as your ability to indicate the full thought process with both successful, as well as failed, attempts to achieve the desired end image. Compressing the real time needed to achieve the results into a smaller time package, while maintaining the most relevant events, demonstrate the full complexity of steps to obtaining a fine image. Last but not least, all this occurred in a relative tiny studio space loaded with extraneous objects, which replicates the kind of environment found in most viewers shooting space. What is not readily evident to viewers is the added amount of time and effort you must put into editing your videos to the final result. You should also document that process at some time. Thanks for sharing your work.

    Hi, man.
    Thanks for the videos. Great stuff here... I have 2 questions, none technical :)
    1) inicially the bottle was standing on a piece of gear that is, by its turn, fixed in place by the C-stand. What's that gear - if you still know it, of course?
    2) in another of your videos you "glued" the Translum to a frame that also is fixed by the C-stand... and it's very hard to find something like that in Europe (in the US is a piece of cake). Can you direct me to where you bought it?
    Thanks again for your videos.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Gustavo and thanks!
      1) It's a baby plate by Avenger, normally you attach it to a wall, see more on my gear page: botvidsson.se/gear
      2) In Sweden it's very easy to find, where do you live? It's just a regular KAPA/CAPA/Foam board that you normally attach photo prints on. Should be easy to find in your local craft store. You can see on my gear page where I buy mine in Sweden, Stockholm.
      Thanks again for your support! :)
      Ps. You can always go to eBay/amazon and search for 'one side self stick foam board´

    • @gustavocampos1969
      @gustavocampos1969 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Martin.
      Thanks for the answers. I'll give that Avenger baby a try as soon as I can find some company that sends it to Portugal (descrimination on the air!!!! LOL. That stuff ships EVERYWHERE, but here). The other item I mentioned was shown in this video at 6:40min... it doesn't seem like foam board to me, mate. Looks more like some metal frame with a spigot at the bottom... Anyway, thanks for your kind replies.

    What's that thing you placed the bottle on? I called my local glass guy (Ekerö) the other day to ask about black plexiglass. They wanted 800 SEK for a 20x20cm piece.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hallå Mats, it's a wall plate from Manfrotto, look here for the exact name: www.botvidsson.se/gear
      Black plexi is expensive, but that sounds crazy. There are companies that are specialists on plexi and if you're lucky they have "spillbitar" you can buy 'cheap' eg 1m x 60cm = 300kr. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the company I found, it was around Arninge-hållet. If my memory comes back I will get back to you.

      To trigger camera+flash remotely, at the same time, I connect a Pocket Wizard PlusX to the camera trigger port, then I connect a Profoto air remote to the hot shoe on the camera. You should try to get a bottle of 12 year old yamazaki if you can find one. Extremely hard to get!

      @@b.whisky9438 Yes, I should try more Japanese whisky. I actually only drink peated whisky. Favourites: Longrow, Kilchoman, Caol Ila, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Talisker and so on... 😛

    Might have to try this approach with a bottle of whiskey I'm trying to shoot. Was it intentional to not add edge-lighting to the sides of the bottle? I've noticed when experimenting with the whiskey I've been playing around with that the glass doesn't create particularly flattering edge light the way other bottles would especially around the neck.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes it was, I wanted to have "black" edge light cuz the background is so bright. But if will work with edge light too off course.

      @@botvidsson Thank you for the response. I think black edges on the bottle fit the mood better also. If you don't mind me asking. As someone who just launched a business/website in product photography what do you believe is the best way to gain clients when you're just stating out?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They say you should never shoot for free but I would contact local companies/start ups and offer them some free photos. Build up your portfolio in one genre. Then when you have some "client" work in your portfolio you can, hopefully, start charging the next client.

      @@botvidsson Thank you so much. I really appreciate this advice and all your videos for insight into product photography. Out of all the content creators I've found in this field on TH-cam you seem to have the best balance of being thorough yet not too long and without making it seem impossible unless you have all the highest quality gear or heavily retouching everything in photoshop.

    Great channel mate. Is it ok photograph any brand bottle and use it in your portfolio without company’s permission .

      It's a bit tricky question and from what I heard, sometimes, it might not be ok. But... as long as you don't sell the image you'll... probably... be fine.
      Personally I'll take the risk 😎
