    It’s so incredible to see how much effort, thought, and technicality go into a shot like this. I only have two strobes - can you show how you can do high end-feeling shots with less gear? Please keep up the amazing work!! Love your vids.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Big thanks Kelly! Means a lot to me. With 2 strobes you can do a lot, many of my tutorials I use 2 flashes. This one was a bit crazy with 6 flashes. I will have your comment in mind though.

    Amazing as always! how is the process to develop the idea in the art direction? why is everything in that possition and not other? like the angle of shoot or the way that you frame the picture?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Hernando! I can't really answer why I set it up like I did, if that's what you mean.
      I did not start with this set up, it took many hours before I got to this. One good way to get started is to focus on one thing and try to build up the set around it. I started with the two oak planks, first I placed it straight on the floor and was planning to shoot in 45 degree angle down, did not like it so I put them in the air. From experience I know bottles look nice when they are back lit so that was the next step, to set a flash from behind. Then just adding stuff like the tub and so on.
      For som people, like pro set designers, they just have the eye for this so they will do it very fast, after all it's all they do all day long. 👽

    Hi Martin! I like your videos. I like the perfection and your way speaking about it. Most I like your creativity that shows the items esthetic and dramatic as if you would tell an exciting story. So some wishes/purposes for new fotos: As I find posing models and food fotos same senseless I would be curious to see an usual model-pose spiced with some creative, story-telling sense. Or some food that shows the procedure of cooking. Last wish: What would a beautiful violin look like, if it is shot more interesting than in sotheby´s catalogue?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nicholas Harricharan Thanks. Absolutely no problem to do a composite. For this shot I would start with the flash at the back doing the smoke action. Then just walk around the scene and put some light on the peach, tube, apricots, nuts and the label. 5-6 photos and then put them together in photoshop, 5 min job.
      Good luck and thanks again for the support Nicholas.

    Dit arbejde er fantastisk! Where would you suggest a beginning product photograper/Videographer looks for client's, or perhaps put a portfolio, from a fellow Scandinavian 😅😉

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hej Kasper! It's a very good question and also a hard one. All I know is that you need to have killer photos/videos and then you have to spread them everywhere so people/clients know you exist.
      If you're just starting up I would contact the local stores/businesses and offer them to create brand boosting photos/videos for there website/social media. Be honest, tell them you're new in the business and have a great passion and can offer them a great start up collab. discount. Great if you have a few personal project in your portfolio you can show them.
      When you got your first client it will help you get the next client.
      Good luck!

      Do you mean a solution with another flash brand? Or for Profoto?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi and thanks!
      I use the Profoto Multispot with the optical Dedolight attachment and buy gobos from Rosco. Don't know if it's possible to buy this solution anymore. Profoto used to make a more economical product called Profoto Spot Small but I can not find it on there site.
      Another solution, I have not tested, is the Strobepro optical snoot kit strobepro.com/products/strobepro-optical-snoot
      You can attach to Profoto, Bowens, Elinchrome... and you use a Canon lens attached... do not know how good it works but it looks interesting.

Then I added a soft box behind the subject but it just didn't look right 😔. I'm trying to make a photo where my daughter is reading a book though a window in sunset. Thanks!

    Hi Martin! Just a quick technical question. Can you share the brand of gels you're using with D2s? I'm amazed modeling light doesn't melt them.

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's just regular CTO from Rosco, I have them in my shop www.amazon.com/dp/B000CHR0QS/?ref=exp_botvidsson_lv_dp_vv_d
      It works fine when I place them outside the zoom reflector with the grid. Think the power of the modelling light is turned down a bit also :)

    Great stuff! Thanks for sharing. I have a question. Is it ever appropriate to create the text of a label in post? Would you ever ask for the label design in a vector file from a company you are shooting for? I notice fine print on labels/packaging can be poorly printed and then becomes tedious to cleanup in photoshop. Any advice?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally I shoot the product as it is but once or twice I have asked for the label and add it in post. That was pharmaceutical products shot straight on/white background.
      And yes... I spend a lot of time fixing labels in post. 😵

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Must add that I will never add a label if I can't retouch it in, in a realistic way. Must look 100% off course.

    do you ever create composites to get the look you are going for?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, to get the final small details in place I 'cheat' a bit. Like in this photo, I took two separate photos to get the dark edge on the glas and also a bit darker edge on the bottle. Also the smoke from the tube was a bit too much so I used the best shot when the smoke comes out and then deleted some spill below the bottle.
      I always try to get as much as possible in the final image in camera, but sometimes I do 100% composite shots, like this mic static1.squarespace.com/static/55d243bce4b0145993597bd6/55d79a3ae4b0eff3bc2ce074/55de5b0ee4b04e9d10631fc5/1529936202013/?format=2500w
      This is a composite of approx 10 images only used 1 flash, maybe I should do a videos on this. You have to my careful when doing composites because it can look a bit too much fake.
